My Trip to a Bamboo School
Last summer, I went to Bali with my family. During the trip, we visited a special school called “Green Bamboo School”. It was one of the most interesting places I saw in Bali.
The school was made almost entirely (完全地) of bamboo. The classrooms, the hall and even the desks and chairs were made of bamboo. When I walked into a classroom, I was surprised—there were no windows or walls, only a bamboo roof. The teacher said, “The open design (设计) lets fresh air and sunlight in, which is good for students’ health.”
There were about 200 students in the school, and they came from 30 different countries. The students had classes like Maths, English and Art, but they also learned about nature. For example, every Wednesday afternoon, they worked in the school garden to grow vegetables. They told me that they ate the vegetables for lunch—it was so cool to eat food they grew themselves!
In the afternoon, we watched the students’ bamboo art show. They made many beautiful things with bamboo, like baskets, lamps and even musical instruments. A 12-year-old student named Lila showed me her bamboo flute (笛子). She played a small piece of music for me, and it sounded wonderful.
Before we left, the headmaster told us, “We built this school to teach students about environmental protection (环境保护). Bamboo is a green material—it grows fast and is easy to get. We hope our students will learn to love nature and protect it.”
I will never forget my trip to Green Bamboo School. It taught me that school can be different and fun, and that we should always try to protect our planet.
