TIME's Kid of the Year honor recognizes young people who are making a positive impact. Five honorees were selected. Read on to learn about three of the incredible honorees.
Bikes for All
Dom Pecora taught himself to fix bikes by watching online videos. Now he runs his own bike shop in Malvern, Pennsylvania. His biggest goal is to give away at least 100 bikes per year to people who need them. That includes young people with health issues and people suffering from homelessness. During the2023 holiday season, he gave away 121 bikes. Dom says he’s just getting started. “Since the beginning, I have always wanted everyone to be able to ride a bike, no matter what their financial abilities are,” he says.
Earth Advocate
Madhvi Chittoor lives in Arvada, Colorado. She worked with government officials there to promote a bill that bans PFAS, referred to as “forever chemicals”, in common items. The bill passed in 2022, but Madhvi has more work to do. She’s always finding ways to spread the word about the environment. For example, on a recent trip to her family’s hometown of Chennai, India, Madhvi organized a beach cleanup and talked to schools about pollution. And “there's still more to be banned ,”she says.
Protecting Paws
Jordan Sucato lives in Phoenix, Arizona. The summers there are baking hot. As the air temperature rises, so does the pavement temperature. This endangers dogs walking on the road. Jordan’s goal is to protect homeless dogs walking many miles a day outside. “Their paws can burn in under five minutes,”Jordan says. So far, she has raised $7,000, enough to buy protective boots for 515 dogs. Many kids care about animals. What sets Jordan apart “Her passion and spirit,”says animal advocate Monique Hebert, who has worked with Jordan.

Moments before heading to teach a class, I received a call from my sister: My mother was going into emergency surgery and might not make it through the night. Five minutes later, I stepped in front of 68 MBA students to lecture without missing a beat, and even stayed a few minutes after to answer questions. I held strong until I got in the car to drive home. That’s when I fell to pieces. I fought to see the road through my tears as I spoke with my travel agent to book the next flight out. My mother pulled through the surgery.
My response to my mother’s crisis was in line with my deep, long-term fear of showing weakness or admitting to feeling overwhelmed. As the youngest daughter from a Vietnamese refugee family, showcasing my strength seemed the best way to honor my parents’ and siblings’
sacrifices that have given me a better life in the United States. I did not want colleagues to question my capabilities or friends and family to see me as anything less than unshakable.
The truth was, I desired to pause, to catch my breath, to simply say, “Im struggling.” I longed to be weak. I wanted to acknowledge my mistakes, to honor a range of emotions, and to ask for help. Cautiously, I began to reveal some of my struggles to my personal and professional circles, watching closely for reactions. Some looked down on my experience. To my great relief, a few listened without judgment and respected my boundaries and coping process. They offered information about counseling services, legal help, support groups, and hotlines. They helped me see that even professionals in leadership positions can need support.
To anyone bearing the weight of constant strength, hear this: True strength isn’t about never hesitating. It’s about having the courage to admit when we’re struggling, reaching out for support, and having the strength to piece ourselves back together and move on.
24.What did the author do after hanging up the phone
A.She drove to look after her mother B.She quickly booked a flight ticket
C.She hesitated to start her teaching D.She kept calm and stayed on duty
25.Why did the author showcase her strength
A.To help her mother make a full recovery B.To prove she lived a good and happy life
C.To avoid possible doubts over her abilities D.To give herself an advantage in promotion
26.How did some people help the author
A.By persuading her to win leaders’ support B.By convincing her seeking help is a must
C.By listening to her and giving judgments D.By sharing similar experiences with her
27.What does the author want to convey in the text
A.Strength does not mean hiding struggles
B.Strength gives us more courage to grow
C.Comparing yourself with others is harmful
D. Weaknesses block personal development

On the morning of September 9, 2025, a significant event took place in Shandong Province, China. A Smart Dragon-3 (SD-3) rocket lifted off successfully from the coastal launch site, marking another step forward in the country’s commercial space development. The rocket’s main task was to send the Geely-05 constellation satellites into their planned orbits—and it completed this mission perfectly.
Developed by a Chinese aerospace company, the SD-3 is a small solid-fuel rocket. It is designed to be flexible and cost-effective, making it ideal for launching small satellites. The Geely-05 constellation, on the other hand, is not just a single satellite but a group of satellites. These satellites will mainly be used for two purposes: providing high-precision positioning services and supporting intelligent transportation systems. For example, they can help improve the
accuracy of navigation apps in cars and trucks, making travel safer and more efficient.
Witnesses at the launch site described the moment as "exciting." As the rocket roared into the sky, it left a bright trail against the clear morning clouds. Engineers and scientists monitored the mission closely through computers. When they confirmed that all satellites had reached their target orbits, cheers broke out in the control room.
This successful launch has two important meanings. First, it shows that China’s commercial rocket technology is becoming more mature. Second, it lays a solid foundation for the future development of the Geely constellation. In the coming years, more satellites will be added to this constellation, which is expected to cover more areas and provide better services for people’s daily lives and industrial needs.
28.What is the main purpose of the Smart Dragon-3 rocket launch
A. To test a new launch site in Shandong
B. To send the Geely-05 satellites into planned orbits
C. To study the structure of solid-fuel rockets
D. To collect data about the Earth’s atmosphere
29.What can we learn about the Geely-05 constellation
A. It is made up of one large satellite B. It will be used for space tourism
C. It can help with precise navigation D. It was developed by a foreign company
30.Why did people in the control room cheer
A. The rocket looked beautiful in the sky B. All satellites arrived at their orbits
C. The launch site had perfect weather D. The rocket landed safely back on Earth
31.What does the successful launch indicate
A. China’s commercial space tech is improving
B. Shandong will become the only launch site
C. The SD-3 rocket is the largest in the world
D. The Geely constellation will stop expanding

Social media is a huge part of modern teenage life, offering amazing connection but also risking mental health. While some praise its power to build communities and encourage self-expression, its negative effects are too serious to ignore, requiring us to seriously rethink its role.
On the one hand, social media provides a vital space for young people, especially those from marginalized groups, to find support and share experiences. It makes it easier to access information and learn about different views. For many, it is also an important outlet for creativity, which can build confidence and a sense of belonging. The ability to keep friendships with people far away is another clear benefit.
However, the negative impacts often seem greater. The main danger is the “perfect life” often shown online. Seeing endless perfect images and lifestyles fuels social comparison, leading to feelings of inadequacy, anxiety, and depression. The constant chase for “likes” makes a person’s self-worth depend on public approval, creating huge pressure. Furthermore, cyberbullying can cause deep and lasting psychological harm. Sleep problems from late-night scrolling and the addictive design of the apps worsen these issues, harming emotional control during key stages of growth.
Therefore, while social media’s power to connect is clear, its current design is a serious threat to youth mental health. The platforms are built to maximize engagement, often at the cost of well-being, making social pressures and unrealistic expectations worse. The proven increase in anxiety and depression among heavy users highlights this crisis. Acknowledging the benefits is not enough; we must actively reduce the harm. This means teaching young users the skills to navigate the digital world safely and healthily, so they don’t become victims of its darker side.
32. What is mentioned as a positive function of social media
A. Offering identity exploration spaces B. Reducing sleep quality significantly
C. Increasing face-to-face interactions D. Removing social barriers completely
33. Why does the author mention the chase for “likes”
A. To show it builds self-esteem B. To highlight its motivational role
C. To criticize its link to self-worth D. To suggest removing all feedback
34. What does the text imply about platform design
A. It prioritizes user privacy B. It seeks engagement over well-being
C. It focuses on educational goals D. It is designed by mental health experts
35. Which title best summarizes the text
A. A Guide to Safe Internet Use
B. The Rise of Digital Communities
C. How to Build Confidence Online
D. Social Media: A Double-Edged Sword for Teens

Honesty Won’t Let You Down
Asad was a 13-year-old boy who was very honest and hardworking. Recently, he had entered a new school, so he had no friends yet. On Monday morning, he was nearly late for school. The night before, his family attended his cousin’s wedding and reached home late, which was why he couldn’t get up on time as usual.
At school, Asad could not pay attention to anything and wanted the bell to ring so that he could buy something to eat. After a few hours, when the bell rang, Asad quickly opened his schoolbag to find his money, but just then he remembered that he had left for school in a hurry in the morning and forgotten to take money. He looked under his books, hoping to find some money but there was nothing.
Not knowing what to do, he walked out of the classroom and sat on a bench in front of the canteen. He saw a few of his classmates there, among them was Fahad. He was one of the richest kids in his class, but he was a very arrogant boy who thought everyone else was a loser. But as Asad was new, he didn’t know much about Fahad.
When he went towards Fahad and asked if he could borrow some money for his lunch, Fahad laughed a lot and said, “I knew you were a loser, maybe a beggar ” Fahad laughed out so loud that other kids also heard it and made fun of the situation. He didn’t answer Fahad, and slowly walked back towards an empty bench.
When he reached the bench, he noticed something lying near it. It was a wallet. He picked it up and recognized it as Fahad’s, as he remembered Fahad showing it to his friends and telling them that his uncle had bought it for him from the UK. There was quite a lot of money inside for a kid.
