W: Does it need a coin Most supermarkets let you use the cart for free.
M: Not this one, and coins are getting harder to find. No one seems to use cash any more.

W: What a question. I’d feel terrible.
M: Then, that’s what I want you to feel before it happens, okay I don’t want to give you an expensive ticket or stop you from driving, but you must slow down when you go through a school zone. Last week, a woman went forty miles an hour through a school zone and she hit a tree. Nobody was hurt, but it could have been terrible.
W: Oh my, yes, officer. I’ll be very careful next time. I don’t want to take driving classes on the weekends like last year when I got a ticket.
第17-20题【原文】May is the month that the United States celebrates Asian Americans and Pacific islanders. Anyone who lives in America and comes from the continent of Asia is celebrated this month. This includes people from China, India and even Russia. It also includes people from the Philippines, who are commonly referred to as the Pacific islanders. In the 1970s, a woman named Genie Joo wanted to create a week of honor. In 1977 the law was passed saying the first week of May would be the time. However, in 1990 George H. W. Bush made plans to turn the week of honor into a month. Two years later, the law was passed and it became official. Many towns with large populations of Asian Americans celebrate the festivals. There are even some events which are supported by governments. In many places where there are only small populations, schools and students focus some studies on eastern countries. Though I am not an Asian American, I have many friends who are. Many of them have shown me traditional foods and celebrations. It has inspired me to travel more.

Forget your fear and just talk to someone. It might be easier said than done, but try to take a deep breath and voice. Don’t be afraid to approach people. Introduce yourself and start a conversation about something you have in common. Sit in the middle of the classroom with as many new friends around you as possible.
Join clubs.
Join after-school activities that interest you and make friends in the club. If you don’t join anything, you will be just going to class and then going home. Being in a club forces you to be more social.

What a day! I started at my new school this morning and had the best time. I made lots of new friends and really liked my teachers. I was nervous the night before, but I had no reason to be. Everyone was so friendly and polite. They made me feel at ease. It was like I’d been at the school for a hundred years!
The day started very early at 7:00 am. I had my breakfast down stairs with my mom. She could tell that I was very nervous. Mom kept asking me what was wrong. She told me I had nothing to worry about and that everyone was going to love me. If they didn’t love me, Mom said to send them her way for a good talking to. I couldn’t stop laughing.
My mom dropped me off at the school gates about five minutes before the bell. A little blonde(金发的) girl got dropped off at the same time and started waving(招手) at me. She ran over and told me her name was Abigail. She was very nice and we became close straight away. We spent all morning together and began to talk to another girl called Stacey. The three of us sat together in class all day and we even made our way home together! It went so quickly. Our teacher told us that tomorrow we would really start learning and developing new skills.

A California-based nonprofit is searching to build an AI language that allows humans to more deeply understand non-human languages to help change our ecological impact on our Earth.
Aza Raskin is the co-founder and president of the Earth Species Project (ESP), a non-profit that uses a form of artificial intelligence (AI) to translate non-human languages. ESP wants to use its machine learning technology to translate and make this vital information widely available (可得到的) to the public.
Raskin emphasized their goal to help conservation by explaining, “The end we are working towards is, can we decode animal communication, discover the non-human language. Along the way and equally important is that we are developing technology that supports biologists and conservation now,” ESP believes that understanding languages can help deepen our relationship with animals and allow us to more efficiently protect them.
In the past, understanding the communication of animals was based on long and boring observations. From primate calls of alarms to dolphin whistles, scientists have been fascinated by the different forms of non-human communication present in these animals. With the development of new technologies, researchers have now begun to understand the huge amounts of data available through machine learning.
Elodie Briefer, an associate professor at the University of Copenhagen, has recently helped co-develop a pig grunt analyzing software that helps scientists understand whether the pigs are expressing positive or negative emotions. In contrast, ESP is approaching decoding differently, by focusing on all species, not just one. The Earth Species Project believes that there is a likelihood that social species communicate with each other, for instance, whales and dolphins.
Although the Earth Species Project believes that understanding AI machine learning data is only one step to full communication, they are hopeful that one day we will be able to understand entire systems of communication.

D.playing recordings of animal sounds to communicate with other social animals
30.Which of the following statement is TRUE according to the article
A.ESP aims to provide free translation services for the public through advanced artificial intelligence technologies.
B.Machine learning has made it possible for researchers to understand huge amounts of data about animal communication.
C. Elodie Briefer has helped develop software which is exactly what ESP needs to decode animal language.
D. Researchers in the Earth Species Project believe that all species on Earth can communicate with one another.
31.What is probably the best title for the text
A.Artificial Intelligence and Its Impact on Society
B.The Ambition of Earth Species Project

Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat, but it was not even possible for her, since she had nothing with her. She stood beside a stand (货摊) for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she sighed and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, do you want to have the noodles ”
“Oh, yes... but I don’t have money on me... ” she replied.
“That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man, “come in”.
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently.
“What is it ” asked the man kindly.
“Nothing. Actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears. “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother, drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!”
Hearing the words, the seller smiled , “Girl, do you really think so I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you Have you expressed your gratitude to her ”
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock;she remembered her mother’s familiar face and weathered hands. “Why did I not think of that A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted, but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me.”
