The bright weather on Saturday, June 15, brought the yellow sun, blue skies and green grasses. But the strawberry brought the red.
The ABPA (阿宾顿商业会) worked together for the last couple of months to bring back the strawberry festival. The members decided to hold this event with the welcoming of the Summer Solstice (夏至). The festival came alive again with the vendors (摊贩), games, and races all through the downtown.
It started with a race for the kids. Children practised running before the race began, which gave them many chances to come in first place. Dressed in a strawberry suit, Miss Strawberry, aka Gerrie Carey, president of Clarks, greeted the kids and took pictures with them. The kids got to draw strawberries on the pavements (人行道). They also played with water balloons.
Local businesses sold their strawberry treats, including strawberries and strawberry pies. Paul and Emily Bobensky, the owners of Lacka Lemonade, sold their fresh lemonade (柠檬味汽水). They normally go to the farmer markets. It was the first time they had appeared at the strawberry festival.
Even though it was a strawberry festival, there was a pie-eating contest including blueberry pies. People gathered around and cheered as five men raced to finish pies without using their hands.

Xiao is one of the oldest musical instruments in China. It’s a kind of wind instrument. It has a long history. ③________
The performance levels are closely the same as those of the flute, but less flexible (灵活的), For that reason, it is only suitable to play slow and peaceful melodies (旋律), which carry people’s feelings in this situation and draw a beautiful picture of nature. Chuanjiang Haozi is a form of singing sung by Chuanjiang boatmen in order to unify their movements and rhythms (节奏). Chongqing and eastern Sichuan are the main birthplaces of Chuanjiang Haozi.
In the age of wooden boats, the power of wooden boats on the river came from the body of the boatmen. When they headed up against the river or the boat crossed a shoal (浅滩), the boatmen had to pull together. Moreover, the long journey was boring and boatmen needed something to relax, so Chuanjiang Haozi came into being.
Chuanjiang Haozi is both technical and beautiful. Boatmen control the direction of the boat just like a driver controls that of a car. And chants are like the accelerator (油门) of a car, controlling the speed of the boat. Therefore, the chants can adjust the force of the boatmen, so that the boat can move forward smoothly. At the same time, the chants are always sung in a bright and beautiful voice, which is a kind of art.
However, with the development and popularity of modern ships, Chuanjiang Haozi faces an endangered situation and is likely to be forgotten by people. Our country has paid great attention to the protection of it and it is included in the national intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) list. Hopefully, more and more people will get the chance to know the wonderful art form.

Rules are everywhere and very important to us. Rules are also important in sports. So a teacher named Lisa interviewed one of her students, Edward. She wanted to know students’ opinions about rules.
(L= Lisa E= Edward) L: Hello, Edward. What are you doing E: I am writing a report about rules. Our P. E. teacher told us that rules are important in sports. L: What do you think of the rules in sports E: I think rules can tell players what they can do and cannot do. If a player breaks a rule, he will be punished and the competition will be interrupted (打断). So every member must follow the rules. L: Could you please tell me what your P. E. teacher said E: Sure. Firstly, he took the basketball rules as an example. Players score points by putting the ball into another team’s basket. Their shooting (投篮) can be worth (值……) one, two, or three points. Players must move the ball and they can pass it to a teammate. L: And I have heard that players may not keep the ball or run with it. Is it right E: Quite right! Because this would not allow other players to get the ball. L: Oh, I know. Anything else E: Then the teacher also talked about football rules. The game lasts for 90 minutes and is divided into the first half and the second half. In each half of the game, the chief referees (首席裁判) should make sure that the rest time is enough. And they can also decide the time spent in changing players. L: Thanks for your explanation.

Most musicians agree that the best violins were first made in Cremona, Italy, about 200 years ago. These violins sound better than any others, They even sound better than those violins made today. 43 But musicians still prefer the old ones.
44 But not all old violins sound wonderful. Only the old violins from Cremona are special. So this cannot be the answer.
Other people think the secret may be the wood. The wood must be from certain kinds of trees in Italy. But the kind of wood may not be so important. It may be more important to cut the wood in a certain way. Wood for a violin must be cut very carefully. It has to be in the right size and shape. 45 Musicians sometimes think this is the secret of the Italians. Maybe they just understand how to cut the wood more than we do.
46 Violin makers can make new ones that are exactly in the same size and shape. But they still do not sound as good as the old ones. Some people think the secret may be the varnis (清漆) that covers the wood of the violin. 47 It also helps improve the sound of the instrument. But no one knows what the Italian violin makers used in their varnish. Today, it is still a mystery.
A.It makes the wood look bright.
B.Whoever loves music knows violins well.
C.Carefulness is what makes the Italians outstanding.

E.It turns out that the size and shape aren’t the answer, either.

Whether you’re thinking about what to make for breakfast or deciding what to wear in the morning, your brain makes over 35,000 decisions each day. But for some people, one simple decision can turn into several questions. When someone wants to take exercise, he may ask himself, “Do I want to work out today ” “Should I start now ” “Can I start later ” Then before he gets the answers, he doesn't have time to work out anymore. 53 Probably, he is experiencing decision fatigue (决策疲劳).
If you find you’re getting angry more often and having difficulty dealing with certain situations you normally wouldn’t, you may be experiencing decision fatigue. 54 For example, you feel upset when you have to reply to some emails.
55 One of the best ways is to automate (使自动化) some of the choices you make each day. For example, you can wear the same types of clothes every day. And if you've got a nice breakfast you like and it's good for your health, you can stick with it.
Another way is to reduce the number of decisions you need to make. Ask someone to share some of the decision-making jobs so you don’t need to think about certain tasks. 56
All in all, remember to go easy on yourself. 57 Finally, you’ll feel much more relaxed about decision-making.
