第二课时（Period 2）
教学内容 Reading (pp. 52–53)， Reading comprehension (p. 54), Vocabulary practice (p. 55)
主要语篇 The amazing planet
教学目标 通过本课的学习，学生能够： 1. 通过阅读一篇介绍地球的科普文章，了解我们美丽的地球家园。 2. 通过找出主题句、归纳关键词来归纳段落大意。 3. 学习掌握描述地貌、气候、生物的表达方式，在阅读过程中接触there be句型的用法，为语法学习做好准备。
教学重点 通过找出主题句、关键词来归纳段落大意，并理清文本的脉络。
教学难点 学习掌握描述地貌、气候、生物的多种表达方法。
【单元课前预习】
让学生思考以下内容，并在方框中写下答案。
2. 鼓励学生在课前思考以下问题，并在课前预习单上写下简单的回答，到课上进行讨论。
(1) What amazing facts do you know about the Earth
(2) Why is it important to protect the Earth
3. 教师把学生分成小组，给每组一个关键词，如“地球的独特位置”“地球的组成部分”“地球的环境特征”“地球的生物多样性”等，让每个小组查找相关资料，探究地球为什么如此神奇，并鼓励学生制作简单的PPT，在课堂上进行小组汇报。
【教学过程】
Step 1 课前导入

教师展示一个关于“地球”的谜语，让学生猜今天学习的主题。
Quiz 知识问答
教师提问：What do you know about the Earth 邀请学生上台，利用一体机进行互动竞赛游戏，引导学生回顾关于地球的一些基本常识。
T: Let’s invite two volunteers to take on a challenge!
Why do we have four seasons (Because the Earth moves around the Sun.)
Where can you see most plants (In the forest.)
Which of the animals can fly in the sky (Eagles.)
How far is the Earth away from the Sun (93 million miles.)
What is the height of the highest mountain on Earth (Over 8,800 meters.)
What are the blue parts, green and brown parts, and white parts on Earth (The sea, the land, and the clouds.)
Step 2 读前活动
了解地球在宇宙中独一无二的地位。
教师展示课本第52页的图片，并提问：Where is the Earth in the universe Why is the Earth so special compared with other planets
教师播放补充视频，让学生看后完成思维导图：
读前引导学生预测文章主要大意：
教师展示课本第53页的图片，并提问：
What do you want to know about the passage
To show the Earth is “amazing”, what might the writer talk about
教师引导学生进行头脑风暴，思考地球上有什么事物。
Step 3 梳理主阅读语篇的大意
让学生通读全文。
2. 引导学生找出或概括每段的主题句，并提问：
What is the main idea of each paragraph
Paragraph 1: The Earth is an amazing planet!
Paragraph 2: The Earth has amazing places.
Paragraph 3: The plants on Earth are wonderful in many different ways.
Paragraph 4: The Earth is home to millions of animals.
Paragraph 5: Let’s explore, learn about and take care of our home.
3. 引导学生自己总结每段的主旨，并给第二至第五段每段起一个小标题。
Think of a subheading for each paragraph.
Paragraph 2: Places on Earth
Paragraph 3: Plants on Earth
Paragraph 4: Animals on Earth
Paragraph 5: Home to people
4.引导学生归纳出文章总分总的结构，如下图所示：
Step 4 用文章中的关键信息完成思维导图。
Step 5 教师对文章细节进行提问，引导学生进一步思考。
T: What writing methods does the writer use to show the Earth is amazing
Step 6 根据思维导图和本课所学，为短视频配音，并做出呼吁。
引导学生根据Step 4中的思维导图复述课文。
教师引导学生提炼主题，归纳作者的写作意图，做出呼吁：The Earth does not belong to us. We belong to the Earth.
