1. I suppose everyone has something they don’t like about themselves. 我认为每个人都有不喜欢自己的地方。
suppose (及物动词)想,认为。后可接名词或宾语从句。
I suppose him to be honest. 我认为他是诚实的。
He supposed that he had left his umbrella on the bus. 他认为他把雨伞忘在公共汽车上了。
注意:若对 I/We suppose 后跟的宾语从句进行否定,需要将否定转移到主句中,即“I/We don’t suppose + 肯定形式的宾语从句”。
I don’t suppose he ever saw it. 我认为他从未见过它。
2. It was bright red, the colour of a strawberry. 它是鲜艳的红色,是草莓的颜色。

(1) 辨析:feel sb doing sth 与 feel sb do sth
feel sb doing sth 感觉某人正在做某事
She can feel him listening to her although she can’t see him. 她能感觉到他正在听她说,尽管她看不见他。

She felt him hear of it. 她感觉他听到了这事。

(2) secretly [副词] 暗自;秘密地。可修饰形容词或动词,在句中作状语。
He was secretly happy when he heard the news. 当他听到这个消息时,他暗自高兴。
They secretly planned a surprise party for their parents. 他们秘密地为他们的父母策划了一个惊喜派对。

(2) feel like
① 感觉像……,有……感觉。后常接名词(短语)、代词或从句等。
They made me feel like one of the family. 他们让我觉得我是这个家庭中的一员。
I felt like I was a bird. 我感觉自己像一只鸟。
② 想要。其后可接名词、代词或动词-ing形式。
feel like doing sth = want to do sth = would like to do sth 想要做某事
I didn’t feel like changing my mind. 我不想改变我的主意。
6. With so many people around me, my birthmark burnt red hot. 周围人很多,我感觉自己的胎记火辣辣的。
(1) with + 名词(短语):此处 "with so many people around me" 是 “with + 名词(短语)”构成的介词短语,表示原因。“with + 名词(短语)”可表示原因、方式等。
With so much work to do, she was really stressed. 由于有这么多工作要做,她压力很大。(表原因)
She greeted us with a smile. 她面带微笑跟我们打招呼。(表方式)
(2) burn
① [动词] (脸因着迫或生气而)发烫;烧伤;烫伤;燃烧。其过去式、过去分词有两种形式,即 burnt, burnt 或 burned, burned。
I felt my face burning when I was talking to him. 我跟他说话的时候感觉自己的脸烧得发烫。
Tom burnt his hand carelessly. 汤姆不小心烧伤了手。

(2) cover
① [及物动词] 遮盖,覆盖
cover...with... 用……盖住……
be covered with 被……覆盖
You can cover the table with the table-cloth. 你可以用桌布盖着桌子。
The ground is covered with snow. 大地被雪覆盖着。
② [名词] 盖子,封面
The magazine must be Lucy’s. We can see her name on the cover. 这本杂志一定是露西的。我们能在封面上看到她的名字。
(3) until
① [介词] 到……时;直到……为止。后跟名词或名词短语。
not...until 直到……才……
It may last until tomorrow. 它可能要持续到明天。
He didn’t go to bed until 11:00 p.m. 他直到晚上 11 点才上床睡觉。
② [连词] 直到……为止。引导时间状语从句。用于肯定句时,主句的谓语动词必须是延续性动词,表示主句的动作一直持续到从句的动作发生或状态出现。用于否定句时,构成 not...until...“直到……才……”,表示直到从句动作发生或状态出现后主句动作才发生。
I will stay with you until your mother comes back. 我会和你待在一起,直到你妈妈回来。
I didn’t believe I could do it until I got to the top of Mount Taishan. 直到到达了泰山山顶我才相信我能做到。
8. Everyone has something special and different—that is what’s interesting. 每个人都有特别和不同的地方——那就是有趣之处。
something special and different 特别和不同的东西。复合不定代词被形容词、动词不定式等修饰时,形容词或动词不定式等应置于其后。

注意:一般情况下,由 some 构成的复合不定代词用于肯定句中,由 any 构成的复合不定代词用于否定句或疑问句中。但在表示建议、请求或希望得到对方的肯定回答时,仍然用 some 构成的复合不定代词。

9. look like 看起来像
用于描述人或事物的外观、外貌特征等方面与另外的人或事物相似。
That cloud looks like a horse. 那条云看上去像一匹马。
拓展:What does sb look like “某人长什么样?”用来询问外貌。
— What does your mother look like 你妈妈长什么样?
— She is tall and beautiful. 她个子高高的,很漂亮。
To Maddie, it looked like a red rose. 对马蒂来说,它看起来像一朵红玫瑰。

10. Sally hated the birthmark on her face. 萨莉讨厌她脸上的胎记。
hate [动词] 讨厌,不喜欢。表示一种感情或心理状态,不能用于进行时,其反义词为 love/like。常用结构有:
① hate sb /sth 讨厌某人 / 某物
I hate snakes. 我讨厌蛇。
② hate to do sth /doing sth 厌恶做某事
I hate to trouble others. 我不喜欢麻烦别人。
I enjoy cooking but I hate doing the dishes. 我喜欢做饭,但不喜欢洗碗。
11. Do you think people should worry about their looks 你认为人们应该担心自己的外貌吗?
worry about 为……担心,担心……。与 be worried about 同义。

He worries about losing his job. 他担心失去他的工作。
12. You can use examples of successful people and their sayings to support your idea. 你可以用成功人士的例子及其言论来支持你的观点。
successful [形容词] 有成就的,出人头地的;成功的。常在句中作定语或表语。
