词语 词性及用法 例句
maybe 是副词，本身不能作谓语，常用来修饰整个句子，表达可能性，常用于句首，作句子的状语 Maybe he is at home.
也许他在家。
may be 是“情态动词may+动词原形be”的结构，在句中作谓语 He may be at home.
他可能在家。

give up 放弃；认输；投降
（1）接名词或代词作宾语：当宾语是名词时，可放在 “give up” 中间，
也可放在 “up” 后面；当宾语是代词时，必须放在 “give up” 中间。
例：Don’t give up your dream. 不要放弃你的梦想。
He failed many times, but he didn’t give it up.
他失败了很多次，但他没有放弃它。
（2）接动名词作宾语：即 “give up doing sth.”，表示 “放弃做某事”。
例：Mary won’t give up studying hard.
玛丽不会放弃努力学习。

用法：
（1）接人作宾语：表示“照顾某人”，可以是照顾小孩、老人、
病人等。
例：Li Hong will learn to take care of the animals in the zoo.

（2）接事物作宾语：表示 “处理某事；负责某事”。
例：Please take care of this matter as soon as possible.
请尽快处理这件事。

look after同样表示“照顾；照料”，在大多数情况下
可以和“take care of”互换。
