hello 意为“你好”,是比较随意的、不分时间的问候语。通常用于问候、打招呼、打电话或引起对方注意。
hi 意为“你好”,比hello更随意。

(1)how是疑问副词,放在句首引导特殊疑问句,常用来询问活动方式或健康状况。如:

(2)greet作动词。意为“和……打招呼;迎接”。相当于 say hello to,后接名词或代词作宾语 。
We greet his mother by saying “Good morning”. 我们向他妈妈打招呼,说“早上好”。
【拓展】greeting 作名词,意为“问候;招呼”。
She sends greetings to all the family. 她向全家表示问候。

(3)people作名词。
①作集合名词,意为“人;人们”。表示复数意义,作主语时谓语动词用复数。

②作可数名词,意为“民族”。有复数形式,也可与不定冠词连用。

1.常见问候语辨析
① Good morning! 早上好! (用于中午12点前)
Good afternoon! 下午好! (12:00—18:00)
Good evening! 晚上好! (18:00到睡觉前)
Good night! 晚安!
回答时重复同样的问候语,这种问候较为正式。
Good morning! 常用于早晨或上午(中午12点之前)向他人问候,其答语通常还是Good morning! 问候他人时,称呼语通常放在问候语后,而且用逗号隔开。

—Good morning, Jack! 早上好,杰克!
如果对方是我们熟悉的人,还可以简洁地说:“Morning!”。回答时,可以重复对方的话,也可以向其进行问候。
【注意】 英语日常用语中晚上好有两种说法,即Good evening 和Good night, 使用场合和含义不同。前者译为晚上好,多用于傍晚之后见面时的问候;后者是临睡前和晚上道别时用的,常译为晚安。答语仍为本身。

Hi! / Hello!用于熟人之间非正式场合下的问候,可单独使用,也可加称呼使用。hi和hello可互换,但hi比hello更随意、亲切一些。

【注意】 
①表示打招呼时,hi 比 hello 更口语化。
②打电话时,只能用 hello,不用 hi。

greet作为动词时,其基本含义是“欢迎,迎接;致敬,致意”,时态:greet的时态变化包括现在分词形式为greeting,过去式为greeted,过去分词也为greeted。
