“Lei ming m ming baak ngo gong ge waa ah Do you understand what I am saying ” I stare back at the speaker blankly, my lips parted, the ideas clear in my mind but a response unable to express itself in a language in my distant range. After an uncomfortable pause, a few words came out of my mouth, sounding forced and unnatural.
The anecdote (轶事) above is a semi-conversation I had in Malaysia years ago. A three-week stay in Malaysia once every few years was often the best part of my summers - what more can you ask from a food heaven But besides the family, food, and escape that Malaysia offered, trips also brought mixed feelings of guilt (愧疚) that I just couldn’t seem to translate. For one month every few summers, I got a taste of what it feels to be an outsider in my own culture, looking in. I was a girl lost in translation, quietly absorbing the various tongues shouted in the wet markets, and nodding along at my grandparents’ huge family dinners.
In America though, I am a different person. I don’t think twice about my grammar when speaking. I don’t struggle with the words and fear that my stories won’t get through to people. So as a native English speaker, I do not have to worry daily about whether I’m judged for having an accent or whether I’m misunderstood across languages. In Malaysia, I naturally burst out “have you eaten ” instead of recalling the Malaysian expressions “you makan already ” In Malaysia, everything about the way I speak — my accent, intonation, sentence structure, slang — gives me away. My American-ness is seen in the way I talk, dress, and act. Maybe my face could pass for a Malaysian local, but once I open my mouth to speak I am so clearly not. It is uncomfortable and awkward, and sometimes I wonder if I did not look Asian at all would it be better, since there would be no more language expectation for me than for a white tourist.
Which of the following can best describe the author in the anecdote
Awkward. B.Anxious. C.Confident. D.Upset.
What made the author feel guilty according to Paragraph 2
Enjoying Malaysian food too much.
Short visits causing family distance.
Failing to translate dialects at markets.
Cultural disconnect during family time.
What can we infer from the last paragraph
The author avoids speaking in Malaysia.
The author feels trapped by language.
The author prefers American identity.
The author’s face causes confusion.
What does the text mainly talk about
Food culture in Malaysia.
girl between two cultures. C.Challenges from learning Malay language.
D.Differences between American and Malaysian cultures.
C
You forget to bring your water bottle to the airport, so you buy a plastic one and keep refilling it. Or you order
takeout for dinner and save the black plastic container to pack your lunch the next day. Reuse is one of the core rules of sustainability. But should you be reusing these single-use plastics Experts say no.
Single-use plastics leach (滤出) chemicals and shed (释放) microplastics into your environment. Though studies have not directly compared single-use and reusable plastic, experts say they are more concerned about single-use plastics because of how they’re made. A single-use plastic water bottle sheds micro-and nanoplastics into your water when you refill it, and a takeout container or frozen meal tray sheds these particles into your food. Chemical exposure increases if plastic is heated, typically in a microwave, a dishwasher or even by placing hot food in a takeout container. When heat is applied, molecules move faster, meaning it could be easier for some of these particles to make its way into your food.
The danger of heating your plastic also applies to reusable plastic, like baby bottles and plastic storage containers, according to Judith Enck, president of Beyond Plastics. Research found that black plastic in sushi trays, and other objects contain high levels of flame retardants (阻燃剂). These poisonous chemicals have been linked to physical and mental problems.
Concerns with chemicals and microplastics primarily apply to food, experts said, because you are swallowing them. Reusing single-use plastics like grocery bags is not a major concern, they added. The most important thing you should do is avoid subjecting your plastic to heat, experts agreed. “A pretty hard-and-fast rule is to never microwave plastic,” Enc k said. “And there’s also a recommendation not to put plastic into the dishwasher if it’s on a hot cycle.”
If you order takeout, it’s best to transfer the food to a nonplastic dish as soon as possible, and you should use a plate when microwaving your food.
Why does the author list examples in the first paragraph
To lead in the topic. B.To prove the experts’ opinion.
C.To analyse the reason. D.To introduce background information.
What can we learn from the research
Plastic bottles of good quality is encouraged to use.
It is the chemicals in the materials that cause trouble. C.High temperature makes little difference to takeout food. D.Reusable plastic is more dangerous than single-use plastic.
Which situation poses the biggest threat to human’s health
Heating fast food in a glass bowl. B.Filling the grocery bag with meat.
Packing cold drink with single-use plastics.
Ordering hot soup contained in a plastic bag.
What is a suitable title for the text A.Stop Using Single-use Plastics
B.Reusing Single-use Plastics Is Harmful
C.How to Correctly Use Single-use Plastics
D.The Astonishing Fact of Single-use Plastics

With an AI tool, researchers study penguin photos taken by tourists and scientists to track Adélie penguins in Antarctica. “Right now, everyone has a camera in their pocket, and the number of photos we could collect for studying will be out of our expectation,” says Thomas Brown, a scientist from an international research team.
With guidance from an expert, the AI tool is able to get a handle on and draw out the penguin groups in pared with human, the AI finds and marks Adélie penguins in these photos more quickly, taking only 5 to 10 seconds per image.
The team created a 3D map of the Antarctica to know exactly where the photos were taken. By identifying the details in the tourist pictures, the researchers could place the photographer and the habitats of the Adélie penguin groups within the 3D map to get a bird’s eye view. This allows researchers to track how Adélie penguin groups change in location and population size over time. Such tracking is important because it can tell the climate changes. That is what researchers want to know. Similarly, the AI tool can also use historical photos to track natural signs such as glacier (冰川) changes that develop very slowly and may only be obvious by looking across many years.
Opinions about AI tools are different among researchers. Some worry that using tourist photos for research may encourage more people to visit Antarctica, which might lead to more tourist activities and could destroy the ecosystem in the end. However, for Thomas, he believes studying tourist photos with the AI tool could be useful, especially as many penguin groups have not been noticed by the research community. “Since Antarctica is hard to study twenty- four-seven,” says Thomas, “this method is helpful for keeping an eye on penguin groups that might only get studied once in a while.”
Why do the research team use an AI tool in their study
To collect the photos from tourists. B.To follow moving paths of penguins. C.To study the photos taken by tourists. D.To identify the 3D map of Antarctica.
Which of the following can replace the underlined “get a handle on” in Paragraph 2
Identify. B.Ignore.
C.Explore. D.Revise.
What do researchers want to know by tracking Adélie penguins A.Glacier sizes. B.Location marks.
C.Climate changes. D.Penguin numbers.
What is the text mainly about
3D map helps locate penguin groups. B.Adélie penguins help develop AI tools. C.Penguins show signs of climate change. D.Researchers use AI to track penguin groups.

One Sunday morning, Tony woke up to a quiet house. Usually, Mom was awake making breakfast and cleaning the kitchen, but not today. After hearing his mom coughing, Tony knocked on her bedroom door and asked with great concern. “Mom, are you OK ” “Honey,” Mom said weakly, “I have a terrible cold. You can have cereal ( 燕麦) for breakfast and watch cartoons. I’m going to stay in bed.”
Tony poured some cereal into a bowl and ate it dry. Mom must have been feeling very bad if she was staying in bed all day. How could Tony help First, he wiped up the crumbs (碎屑) of cereal he had left on the kitchen counter. He also put away the cereal box neatly, so the kitchen looked just as it had done when he woke up. But what else could he do Sunday was the day when Mom did the laundry (洗衣服). Tony loved to watch the clothes spinning (旋转) in the machine. That should be fun to do. So, he ran to get the laundry basket, in which was his mother’s favorite white dress, some other clothes and a pair of red socks.
Tony opened the door of the washing machine and put the clothes inside. He had watched Mom do laundry lots of times, so he knew where to find the washing powder and how much to pour into the machine. Finally, he closed the door and pressed the big button that said “START”. Tony looked through the round glass window. Water was pouring in, and the machine was starting to spin, making his clothing tumble around. That was easy.
Tony watched cartoons until he heard the washing machine beep. That meant the washing was finished. Tony opened the door to take out the damp clothes. He took out a few at a time and moved them into the dryer. Every piece seemed clean, and Tony felt proud. Then he pulled out a pink dress.
续写词数应为80词左右;
But as far as he could remember, there was no pink dress in the laundry basket. While he was still wondering why there was a pink dress, he took out the pair of red socks (短袜).

For one month every few summers, I got a taste of what it feels to be an outsider in my own culture, looking in.
根据最后一段“In Malaysia, everything about the way I speak — my accent, intonation, sentence structure, slang — gives me away. My American-ness is seen in the way I talk, dress, and act. Maybe my face could pass for a Malaysian local, but once I open my mouth to speak I am so clearly not. It is uncomfortable and
awkward, and sometimes I wonder if I did not look Asian at all would it be better, since there would be no more language expectation for me than for a white tourist.(在马来西亚,我说话的方式——我的口音、语调、句子结

You forget to bring your water bottle to the airport, so you buy a plastic one and keep refilling it. Or you order takeout for dinner and save the black plastic container to pack your lunch the next day. Reuse is one of the core rules of sustainability. But should you be reusing these single-use plastics Experts say no.
Single-use plastics leach ( 滤出) chemicals and shed ( 释放) microplastics into your environment. Though
studies have not directly compared single-use and reusable plastic, experts say they are more concerned about single-use plastics because of how they’re made.

根据第二段中“Chemical exposure increases if plastic is heated, typically in a microwave, a dishwasher or even by placing hot food in a takeout container. (如果塑料被加热,通常是在微波炉、洗碗机中,甚至是把热的食物放在外卖容器里,化学物质的暴露就会增加。)”以及第三段中“Research found that black plastic in sushi trays, and other objects contain high levels of flame retardants (延缓剂)。These poisonous chemicals have been linked to physical and mental problems. (研究发现,寿司托盘和其他物品中的黑色塑料含有高水平的阻燃剂。这些有毒化学物质与身体和精神问题有关。)”可知,用塑料袋装热汤对人体的危害最大。故选 D。
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中“Reuse is one of the core rules of sustainability. But should you be reusing these single-use plastics Experts say no. (再利用是可持续发展的核心原则之一。但是你应该重复使用这些一次性塑料吗 专家说不。)”和第二段中“Single-use plastics leach (滤出) chemicals and shed (释放) microplastics into your environment.
With guidance from an expert, the AI tool is able to get a handle on and draw out the penguin groups in
pared with human, the AI finds and marks Adélie penguins in these photos more quickly, taking only 5 to 10 seconds per image.
Similarly, the AI tool can also use historical photos to track natural signs such as glacier (冰川) changes that develop very slowly and may only be obvious by looking across many
years.
“Since Antarctica is hard to study twenty-four-seven,” says Thomas, “this method is helpful for keeping an eye on penguin groups that might only get studied once in a while.”
D.Researchers use AI to track penguin groups.
a handle on 是“识别”之意,和 identify 意思相近。故选 A 项。
根据第三段“Such tracking is important because it can tell the climate changes. That is what researchers want to know. Similarly, the AI tool can also use historical photos to track natural signs such as glacier (冰川) changes that develop very slowly and may only be obvious by looking across many years.(这种追踪很重要,因为它可以告诉我们气候的变化。这正是研究人员想知道的。同样,人工智能工具也可以使用历史照

Because of work, school or family responsibilities, many people have no time to take an extended vacation.
36 Therefore, there is one popular choice for them—a mini vacation.
A mini vacation is a one to three days’ getaway. Unlike the standard vacation, it doesn’t require weeks of planning and needn’t cost much. 37 You will have the chance to get your mind off work and take a
break from your regular routine.
Quite often, a mini vacation is planned around an official holiday or school break, in order to avoid taking too many personal days off from work or having to pull children out of classes. A typical long weekend could start after work or school on Friday and end the night before a regular schedule comes again. Time is really limited. 38
An overnight trip to an amusement park nearly could be considered a mini vacation. It has advantages. People can enjoy an inexpensive vacation from the stresses of work or school. 39 Many people are
surprisingly unaware of interesting attractions located within a few hours of their hometowns, but local hotels and visitor centers often have lots of informational booklets on local attractions.
40 It includes minimal (最少的) packing and little gas. Other costs may include entry fees of the
attractions, hotel reservations, meals and souvenirs. Some vacationers on limited budgets may be able to stay overnight with relatives or friends. They can also save money by purchasing inexpensive meals at local stores or fast food restaurants.
A.Stop at any scenic spot that looks interesting.
B.A mini vacation generally calls for less money.
C.But it will still provide the same basic content of any trip.
D.A mini vacation is also sometimes annoying to prepare for.
E.So people usually look for destinations within a few hours of their homes. F.Besides, they are still able to drive back home for emergencies if necessary. G.Others may have the time, but not have the money to travel for a week or longer.

You can have cereal (燕麦) for breakfast and watch cartoons. I’m going to stay in bed.”
Tony poured some cereal into a bowl and ate it dry. Mom must have been feeling very bad if she was staying
in bed all day. How could Tony help First, he wiped up the crumbs ( 碎屑) of cereal he had left on the kitchen counter. He also put away the cereal box neatly, so the kitchen looked just as it had done when he woke up. But
what else could he do Sunday was the day when Mom did the laundry (洗衣服).

When I was 9, we packed up our home in Los Angeles and arrived at Heathrow, London on a gray January morning. Everyone in the family settled quickly into the city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless blue-sky days, I felt at a loss and out of place. Until I made a discovery.
Southbank, at an eastern bend in the Thames, is the center of British skateboarding, where the continuous crashing of skateboards left your head ringing .I loved it. I soon made friends with the local skaters. We spoke our own language. And my favorite: Safe. Safe meant cool. It meant hello. It meant don’t worry about it. Once, when trying a certain trick on the beam(横杆), I fell onto the stones, damaging a nerve in my hand, and Toby came over, helping me up: Safe, man. Safe. A few minutes later, when I landed the trick, my friends beat their boards loud, shouting: “ Safe! Safe! Safe!” And that’s what mattered—landing tricks, being a good skater.
When I was 15, my family moved to Washington. I tried skateboarding there, but the locals were far less welcoming. Within a couple of years, I’d given it up.
When I returned to London in 2004, I found myself wandering down to Southbank, spending hours there. I’ve traveled back several times since, most recently this past spring. The day was cold but clear: tourists and Londoners stopped to watch the skaters. Weaving(穿梭)among the kids who rushed by on their boards, I found my way to the beam. Then a rail—thin teenager, in a baggy white T—shirt, skidded(滑)up to the beam. He sat next to me. He seemed not to notice the man next to him. But soon I caught a few of his glances. “I was a local here 20 years ago,” I told him. Then, slowly, he began to nod his head. “Safe, man. Safe.”
“Yeah,” I said. “Safe.”
What can we learn about the author soon after he moved to London
He felt disappointed. B.He gave up his hobby.
C.He liked the weather there. D.He had disagreements with his family.
What do the underlined words “Safe! Safe! Safe!” probably mean
Be careful! B.Well done! C.No way! D.Don’t worry!
Why did the author like to spend time in Southbank when he returned to London
To join the skateboarding. B.To make new friends.
C.To learn more tricks. D.To relive his childhood days
What message does the author seem to convey in the text
Children should learn a second language.
Sport is necessary for children’s health.
Children need a sense of belonging
Seeing the world is a must for children.
D
A new observation in Sumatra caught seasoned scientists by surprise. An orangutan (红毛猩猩) known as Rakus treated a fresh wound with a medicinal plant, making this the first time an animal has been seen applying a biologically active substance (物质) for its health benefits. This leaves scientists wondering: Did humans invent medicine, or does it
pre-date our species
These animals are known to be among the most intelligent non-human primates (灵长类 ). They’ve been observed using tools, communicating vocally, and engaging in even more complex behaviors like calculated reciprocity, which involves aiding another orangutan with the expectation of being paid back. They can even use Skype with some help from humans.
Roughly 60,000-70,000 of these creatures remain in the wild, about 15,000 of which live on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. That’s where the Suaq Project, part of the Max Planck Institute for Animal Behavior, observes orangutans in their natural habitat.
The researchers noted in June that Rakus had a small wound on his face following a fight with another mature male orangutan. Several days later, Rakus did something no one had ever seen a primate do before. He began carefully picking the leaves from a climbing vine (藤蔓) known as akar-kuning. Local human populations have long used these leaves for pain relief and to treat conditions like malaria. Orangutans don’t usually eat these plants; indeed, Rakus didn’ t eat them. He chewed (嚼碎) them and then applied the resulting paste to his facial wound.
This is the first time researchers have seen such behavior in 21 years at the Sumatran research station. Wild orangutans are rarely injured, so this may be a rare but widespread behavior. Or perhaps Rakus is the only one that knows this trick. The researchers assumed that early humans may have learned about certain treatment by observing animals engaging in similar behaviors. And here we are, thousands of generations later, still watching and wondering just how smart they are. Increasingly, it looks like orangutans are one cave painting away from civilization.
Why does the author mention Skype in paragraph 2
To support an idea. B.To draw a conclusion.
C.To explain a problem. D.To present a suggestion.
What is paragraph 4 mainly about
How Rakus got injured. B.How Rakus treated his wound. C.What Rakus ate in the wild. D.What Rakus explored in the forest.
What can be inferred about the new observation
It proves the medical value of a plant leaf.
It shows a widespread behavior among orangutans.
It answers one of scientists’ questions about medicine.
It adds evidence to show the intelligence of orangutans.
Which of the following is a suitable title for the text A.Non-human Primates Seen Using Tools in the Wild B.Orangutans Proved to Be the Most Intelligent Primate
C.A Project Observes Orangutans in Their Natural Habitat
D.An Orangutan Observed Applying Medicinal Plant to a Wound

Exam Anxiety
Has this ever happened to you You’ve been studying hard for your midterm, but when you walk into your exam, your mind goes blank, your heart races fast, you get sweaty palms and find it hard to breathe. 36
Everyone feels anxious during exams. Usually, it results from a fear of failure, lack of adequate preparation time and bad experiences taking tests in the past. This is normal and often helps you work harder, think faster and generally improve your performance. 37 You may also feel that other people are managing the exam better than you. This can cause you to feel that your mind has “gone blank” on information you know you have revised.
38 Some choose to ignore the problem, while others don’t review because they think they will do badly anyway and even miss exams due to the anxiety. It can also be really easy to think that if you don’t try and then you fail, you won’t feel as bad as if you fail after trying really hard.
So what can you do to fight against the negative mindset and stay calm before and during your test 39
Yes, this seems obvious, but it’s worth repeating. If you feel confident that you’ve prepared thoroughly, you’ll feel more confident walking into the test. The second tip is simple: just start. The blank page can maximize your anxiety.
40 You can always go back and change things later if needed, but a few quick answers can get the ball rolling. Besides, allocating (分配) your time is equally important. Look through the whole test before getting started. Mentally allocate how much time you’ll spend on each section. If there’s time to recheck, even better.
A.After you get the paper, dive right in by getting some questions done to build up your confidence. B.However, if you are overly anxious about the result, you may be unable to focus on your work.
C.Realizing time is almost up and that there’s still a lot of blank space will make you desperate. D.Therefore, people need an appropriate amount of pressure to help deal with exams.
E.If these classic signs of exam anxiety sound familiar, you’re not alone!
F.People often deal with exam stress in many unhelpful ways.
G.The first thing you should do is to be prepared.

In the past, it took days or even weeks to receive news from faraway friends. Now, thanks to advances in technology, the way we make friends 56 communicate with them has changed greatly.
Nowadays, we can move around the world and still stay 57 touch with the people that we want to remain friends with. Social media tools let us see 58 our friends are doing, which is a 59
(particular) good way to maintain friendships.
The digital age enables us 60 (find) people who share our interests. Whatever our hobbies, the Internet can connect us with others who also enjoy 61 (do) the same things, even if they live on the other side of the world.
But we need to remember that what we see on social media 62 (be) often not the whole truth about a person or a situation. Sometimes smiling photos can hide real problems. On 63 Internet, nobody knows who you really are. A young person could be old; a woman could be a man; we could even be sharing 64 (we) information with criminals.
This doesn’t mean that we should throw the baby out with the bath water. Although technology has changed the way we acquire friends, the 65 (mean) of friendship and our longing for friends remain the same.

Jessie’s attention.
“Jessie, are you listening ” Mrs. Williamson’s question cut in Jessie’s thoughts. Jessie turned to her teacher. “What was that ” she asked.
The teacher frowned (皱眉), saying it was the second time that morning that she hadn’t been listening and that she was supposed to do better.
After class the teacher stopped Jessie and told her, “A rule is a rule. And it’s important for everyone to follow the
rules.”
Jessie nodded to show she understood, but she didn’t really take it seriously, thinking Mrs. Williamson was too

【答案】14.A 15.C 16.C 17.B
M: Good evening and welcome to this week’s business world. Tonight we’ve invited Alia Duma, a fashion designer and director. She will give us some information about clothes made out of plastic bottles. Hello, Miss Duma, how did you get this idea
W: You know billions of water bottles are being thrown away. These bottles take hundreds of years to break down. I think we can use them to create clothes and help the environment.
M: Awesome. Is the process of making clothes complicated
W: In fact, it is rather simple. First, the plastic bottles are washed and cut into small pieces. Then they are melted and shaped into small balls. The balls are melted again to form thread. We can then use the thread to make clothes. M: How many plastic bottles does it take to make a ton of thread
W: It takes sixty seven thousand bottles. This reduces carbon emissions by four point two tons and water use by six point two tons.
M: Amazing, but some people might have doubts about wearing such clothes.
W: They don’t have to worry at all. Plastic thread can be made into cotton, silk or even wool. M: That’s right. What about the price of the clothes
W: It ranges from five hundred to three thousand UN, however, the price will fall when more people follow in my steps.
M: Thank you for letting us know so much.

Safe. A few minutes later, when I landed the trick, my friends beat their boards loud,
shouting: “ Safe!
I’ ve traveled back several times since, most recently this past spring. The day was cold but clear: tourists and
Londoners stopped to watch the skaters. “I was a local here 20
years ago,” I told him. Then, slowly, he began to nod his head. “Safe, man. Safe.” “Yeah,” I said.
【答案】28.A 29.B 30.D 31.C
根据第一段“Everyone in the family settled quickly into the city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless blue -sky days, I felt at a loss and out of place.(除了我之外的家里人都很快适应这个城市,没有了我喜爱的沙滩和蓝天,我感到迷茫和无措)”可知,作者刚到伦敦的时候因为没有喜爱的沙滩,不能很好的融入到新的城市,感到很沮丧。故选 A。
根据画线词前文“A few minutes later, when I landed the trick, my friends beat their boards loud, shouting: “ Safe! Safe! Safe!”(几分钟后,当我学会这个技巧时,我的朋友们敲着他们的板子大声喊道:“做得好!做得好!做得好!)”以及后文“And that’s what mattered—landing tricks, being a good skater. (那才是真正重要的——滑板的落地技巧掌握了才是一名好的滑板玩家)”可知,作者掌握了滑板落地技巧,因此他的朋友大声欢呼,因此可以推出本句的 Safe 是赞美的含义。故选 B。
推理判断题。根据文章第四段““I was a local here 20 years ago,” I told him. Then, slowly, he began to nod his head. “Safe, man. Safe.”(我告诉他:“我 20 年前经常在这里玩滑板,”他缓慢地开始向我点头:“嗨,你好!”)”可推知,作者去 Southbank 这个地方是为了寻找自己玩滑板的回忆。故选 D。 31.推理判断题。根据文章第一段“Everyone in the family settled quickly into the city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless blue—sky days, I felt at a loss and out of place. Until I made a discovery.(除了我之外的家里人都很快适应这个城市,没有了我喜爱的沙滩和蓝天,我感到迷茫和无措。直到我有了一个发现)” 以及文章第二段“Southbank, at an eastern bend in the Thames, is the center of British skateboarding, where the continuous crashing of skateboards left your head ringing .I loved it. I soon made friends with the local skaters.(泰晤士河东段的南岸,是英国滑板运动的中心,在那里,滑板不断的碰撞声让你的脑袋嗡嗡作响。我喜欢那里。我很快就和当地的滑板手交了朋友)”及文章倒数第二段“When I was 15, my family moved to Washington. I
tried skateboarding there, but the locals were far less welcoming. Within a couple of years, I’d given it up.(我 15 岁时,我全家搬到了华盛顿。 几年之内,我就放弃了)”以及文章最后一段“When I returned to London in 2004, I found myself wandering down to Southbank, spending hours
D
A new observation in Sumatra caught seasoned scientists by surprise. An orangutan (红毛猩猩) known as Rakus treated a fresh wound with a medicinal plant, making this the first time an animal has been seen applying a biologically active substance (物质) for its health benefits. This leaves scientists wondering: Did humans invent medicine, or does it pre-date our species
These animals are known to be among the most intelligent non-human primates (灵长类).
Orangutans don’t usually eat these plants; indeed, Rakus didn’t eat them. He chewed (嚼碎) them and then applied the resulting paste to his facial wound.
This is the first time researchers have seen such behavior in 21 years at the Sumatran research station. Wild orangutans are rarely injured, so this may be a rare but widespread behavior. Or perhaps Rakus is the only one that
knows this trick. The researchers assumed that early humans may have learned about certain treatment by observing animals engaging in similar behaviors. And here we are, thousands of generations later, still watching and wondering just how smart they are. Increasingly, it looks like orangutans are one cave painting away from
civilization.
C.A Project Observes Orangutans in Their Natural Habitat D.An Orangutan Observed Applying Medicinal Plant to a Wound
【答案】32.A 33.B 34.D 35.D
根据第二段“These animals are known to be among the most intelligent non-human primates (灵长类). They’ve been observed using tools, communicating vocally, and engaging in even more complex behaviors like calculated reciprocity, which involves aiding another orangutan with the expectation of being paid back. They can even use Skype with some help from humans.(这些动物被认为是最聪明的非人类灵长类动物之一。人们观察到它们使用工具,进行口头交流,并参与更复杂的行为,如计算互惠,这包括帮助另一只猩猩并期望得
到回报。他们甚至可以在人类的帮助下使用 Skype)”可知,作者在第二段提到 Skype 是为了支持“大猩猩被认为是最聪明的非人类灵长类动物之一”这一个想法。故选 A。
根据第四段“The researchers noted in June that Rakus had a small wound on his face following a fight with another mature male orangutan. Several days later, Rakus did something no one had ever seen a primate do before. He began carefully picking the leaves from a climbing vine (藤蔓) known as akar kuning. Local human populations have long used these leaves for pain relief and to treat conditions like malaria. Orangutans don’t usually eat these plants; indeed, Rakus didn’t eat them. He chewed (嚼碎) them and then applied the resulting paste
根据最后一段“The researchers assumed that early humans may have learned about certain treatment by observing animals engaging in similar behaviors. And here we are, thousands of generations later, still watching and wondering just how smart they are. Increasingly, it looks like orangutans are one cave painting away
根据第一段“A new observation in Sumatra caught seasoned scientists by surprise. An orangutan (红毛猩猩) known as Rakus treated a fresh wound with a medicinal plant, making this the first time an animal has been seen applying a biologically active substance (物质) for its health benefits. This leaves scientists wondering: Did humans invent medicine, or does it pre-date our species
38 Some choose to ignore the problem, while others don’t review because they think they will do
badly anyway and even miss exams due to the anxiety.

(那么,在考试之前和考试期间,你能做些什么来克服消极心态并保持冷静呢)”和下文“Yes, this seems obvious, but it’s worth repeating. If you feel confident that you’ve prepared thoroughly, you’ll feel more confident walking into the test. The second tip is simple: just start.
由上文“The second tip is simple: just start. The blank page can maximize your anxiety. (第二个技巧很简单:只要开始。空白页面可以使你的焦虑最大化)”可知,处理考试焦虑的第二个方法是拿到试卷后立即开始(避免空白卷面使你更焦虑),即开始做题,承接上文,A 选项“拿到试卷后,立即开始做一些问题,以建立自信。”切题。故选 A 项。

On 63 Internet, nobody
knows who you really are. A young person could be old; a woman could be a man; we could even be sharing
64 (we) information with criminals.
This doesn’t mean that we should throw the baby out with the bath water. Although technology has changed the way we acquire friends, the 65 (mean) of friendship and our longing for friends remain the same.

It was a sunny morning, when Jessie sat at her desk in Mrs. Williamson’s class. They were learning about science, which Jessie normally enjoyed. However, a bird stayed outside the classroom window, which caught much of Jessie’s attention.
And it’s important for everyone to follow the rules.”
Jessie nodded to show she understood, but she didn’t really take it seriously, thinking Mrs. Williamson was too strict. Then she rushed outside to play ball games with other kids. They first picked teams and made the rules for the game. Then the game started. But the other team broke the rules and ended the game.
It made Jessie angry and complained it was one of the rules and a rule is a rule. But as soon as she said the words, she remembered what happened in class.

Ashamed and embarrassed, Jessie went to Mrs. Williamson’s office.
One possible version:
Ashamed and embarrassed, Jessie went to Mrs. Williamson’s office. Seeing Jessie at the door, Mrs.
Williamson was a little surprised. She found Jessie’s face flushed with shame. Jessie apologized in a soft voice; her words were sincere when she promised to follow the rules in class and she was going to do better from then on. Her teacher smiled warmly and opened her arms wide to hug Jessie, saying, “I’m proud of you, Jessie. It is very brave of you to apologize.” Jessie smiled, too. She felt much better, and she understood that she needed to follow the class rules. After all, a rule is a rule! Rules are there to ensure a harmonious and productive learning environment for everyone.

“When I was young, I had so much energy and I loved building things. If I had an idea, I had to build it right now using what I could find around me,” says Danish artist Thomas Dambo. When Dambo was seven years old, he bought a mountain of cushions (垫子) from a nearby market to build a game room in his parents’ house. As a teenager, he built a “crazy” castle in his backyard.
Years later, 42-year-old Dambo is proudly showing his latest work: a giant (巨人) called Little Lui. Five meters tall, Little Lui is one of the six giants placed in the corners of Peel Region of Western Australia, which will be on show for at least a year. This work makes Dambo’s giants up to 99 around the world. His gentle giants have found homes in many different countries, as far as the United States, Belgium, China, Denmark, South Korea and now in Australia.

Australian teenagers are missing important, basic kitchen skills and it’s having a negative influence on their health. It’s also leading our next generation towards increased rates of obesity (肥胖), according to the findings of a new survey.
A national survey of 1,006 parents found that close to half of all 12 to 18 years old teenagers can’t boil an egg; 1 in 5 only have kitchen skills that allow them to pour milk on cereal; 42% can’t boil noodles; 83.9% don’t know how to roast a chicken; 60.1 percent can’t bake a potato.
Research company Pureprofile asked parents to judge how well their kids could perform in the kitchen across some tasks. More than half (67.3%) of parents believe their children could do better when it comes to healthy food and lifestyle knowledge. Close to half of parents (42.5%) believe poor food choices are caused by lack of education at middle school, with 9 in 10 parents in support of schools doing more to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Miriam Raleigh, an expert on the relationship between food and health, said she was already seeing a generation of young parents who had “no idea how to cook”. “They depend on convenience meals and easy snacks, and those foods often have a higher fat and salt content which can lead to obesity and a lot of health problems,” Ms Raleigh said.
The school’s Kitchen Garden program founder, Stephanie Alexander, said that if more was not done to improve the situation we would be heading towards a generation of fatter and more unhealthy kids. Ms Alexander also said she
would introduce her Kitchen Garden program into middle schools so teenagers can learn the art of cooking food. “I’m so proud of what we have achieved in the primary school and I really believe we can have the same success in middle schools,” she said.

A.Disappointing. B.Hopeful.
C.Ineffective. D.Unsuccessful.
What is the purpose of this passage
To teach teenagers cooking. B.To improve school education. C.To care about teenagers’ health. D.To promote a cooking program.

We know that fruits can help to keep our bodies healthy. According to a new study, eating fruits in middle age could also help to reduce the chances of developing depression (抑郁) later in life though we should pay attention to the amount of fruits we eat.
Researchers from China and Singapore wanted to find out more about whether eating fruits and vegetables could have an effect on our mental health. They looked at more than 13,700 Chinese adults who were living in Singapore. The study period began between 1993 and 1998 when the Chinese adults were aged between 45 and 74. Everyone was asked about the fruits and vegetables they liked to eat.14 fruits and 25 types of vegetables were included in the questionnaire (问卷).
The Chinese adults were followed for an average of almost 20 years. By this time, they were aged between 61 and 96. They were asked to complete a questionnaire that could decide whether older people develop depression. At the end of the study period, almost 3,200 people had the feeling of depression.
The researchers found that higher consumption of fruits during middle age was connected with a lower probability of developing depression in late life. Those who ate the most fruits were 29% less likely to develop depression compared to those who ate the least. However, they didn’t find any connection between eating vegetables and developing depression.
It was suggested that the reason for this may be that fruits are usually eaten raw, while vegetables are often
cooked. Cooking vegetables might limit the “protective effects” of the nutrients (营养物) in the foods, the researchers suggested, although they said more research was needed.
All types of fruits were found to have an effect, especially oranges, bananas, papayas and watermelons.
How is the study conducted
By comparing fruits to vegetables. B.By filling in the questionnaire in a lab. C.By talking with people living in China. D.By tracking the subjects for a long time.
What does the underlined word “consumption” in paragraph 4 probably mean
Contact. B.Eating. C.Advancement. D.Concentration.
What do we know about the influence of vegetables on depression
Researchers have got no proof.
They prove to be better than fruits.
They are the key to treating depression.
Cooking them surely influences mental health.
What might be talked about in the following paragraph
Why fruits could decrease depression.
The correct methods of cooking vegetables. C.Different fruits recommended by the doctor. D.How vegetables damage nutrients in the foods.

Learn to Be Responsible
How does it feel when you admit that you have done something wrong Taking responsibility for your actions not only feels good, it teaches you to trust yourself and strengthens friendships.
What does being responsible mean
It can be easy to blame(责怪) others or make excuses for mistakes, but being responsible means accepting that you are wrong. 36 You could say the bus was late, but being responsible means apologizing and accepting that it was your responsibility to get there on time. However, being responsible doesn’t mean taking the blame for things you can’t change. You’re only responsible for things that you can control.
37
According to research, understanding you have control over your own actions makes you feel more positive and hopeful about the future. 38 For example, I remember a time I got the sofa dirty. I was going to lie about it because if my mum saw it, she would get angry. But after I told her the truth, I wasn’t in as much trouble as I thought.
Instead, mom praised me for my honesty. Being responsible helps you to gain people’s trust.
How can you be responsible
39 One way of doing this is by drawing a circle of control: what is in this circle of control and what is out of this circle. As well as being responsible for what you can change, try accepting the things you can’t. We can’t always control what happens to us. 40 We can still choose our attitude. And most of the time, attitude decides if you are truly a responsible person.
What makes you responsible
How is being responsible good for you
But we can control how we respond to it.
Start by understanding what is in and out of your control.
Taking responsibility can also make others trust you more.
Imagine agreeing to meet a friend and then turning up late.
This can increase your happiness and help you achieve more.

Ms Alexander also said she would introduce her Kitchen Garden program into middle schools so teenagers can learn the art of cooking food. “I’m so proud of what we have achieved in the primary school and I really believe we can have the same success in middle schools,” she said.

We know that fruits can help to keep our bodies healthy. According to a new study, eating fruits in middle age could also help to reduce the chances of developing depression ( 抑郁) later in life though we should pay attention to the amount of fruits we eat.
By this time, they were aged between
61 and 96. They were asked to complete a questionnaire that could decide whether older people develop depression. At the end of the study period, almost 3,200 people had the feeling of depression.
The researchers found that higher consumption of fruits during middle age was connected with a lower
probability of developing depression in late life. Those who ate the most fruits were 29% less likely to develop depression compared to those who ate the least. However, they didn’t find any connection between eating vegetables and developing depression.
It was suggested that the reason for this may be that fruits are usually eaten raw, while vegetables are often cooked. Cooking vegetables might limit the “protective effects” of the nutrients ( 营养物) in the foods, the researchers suggested, although they said more research was needed.
B.They prove to be better than fruits.
C.They are the key to treating depression. D.Cooking them surely influences mental health.
What might be talked about in the following paragraph
Why fruits could decrease depression. B.The correct methods of cooking vegetables. C.Different fruits recommended by the doctor. D.How vegetables damage nutrients in the foods.

根据第二段“They looked at more than 13,700 Chinese adults who were living in Singapore. The study period began between 1993 and 1998 when the Chinese adults were aged between 45 and 74. Everyone was asked about the fruits and vegetables they liked to eat.14 fruits and 25 types of vegetables were included in the questionnaire (问卷).(他们调查了超过 13700 名居住在新加坡的中国成年人。研究开始于 1993 年至 1998 年,
当时中国成年人的年龄在 45 岁至 74 岁之间。每个人都被问及他们喜欢吃的水果和蔬菜。调查问卷包括 14
种水果和 25 种蔬菜)”可知,这项研究是通过长时间跟踪研究对象进行的。故选 D 项。
词句猜测题。根据后文“Those who ate the most fruits were 29% less likely to develop depression compared to those who ate the least.(与吃最少水果的人相比,吃最多水果的人患抑郁症的可能性要低 29%)”可知,多吃水果的人患抑郁症的可能性要低 29%,所以中年时多吃水果与晚年患抑郁症的可能性较低有关,推知 consumption 应是“摄入,食用”之意,和 B 项意思相近。
根据第四段“However, they didn’t find any connection between eating vegetables and developing depression.(然而,他们并没有发现吃蔬菜和患抑郁症之间有任何联系)”以及第五段“It was suggested that the reason for this may be that fruits are usually eaten raw, while vegetables are often cooked. Cooking vegetables might limit the “protective effects” of the nutrients (营养物) in the foods, the researchers suggested, although they
Learn to Be Responsible
How does it feel when you admit that you have done something wrong Taking responsibility for your actions not only feels good, it teaches you to trust yourself and strengthens friendships.
What does being responsible mean
It can be easy to blame(责怪) others or make excuses for mistakes, but being responsible means accepting that you are wrong. 36 You could say the bus was late, but being responsible means apologizing and
accepting that it was your responsibility to get there on time. However, being responsible doesn’t mean taking the blame for things you can’t change. You’re only responsible for things that you can control.
37
According to research, understanding you have control over your own actions makes you feel more positive and hopeful about the future. 38 For example, I remember a time I got the sofa dirty. I was going to lie
about it because if my mum saw it, she would get angry. But after I told her the truth, I wasn’t in as much trouble as I thought. Instead, mom praised me for my honesty. Being responsible helps you to gain people’s trust.
How can you be responsible
39 One way of doing this is by drawing a circle of control: what is in this circle of control and what
is out of this circle. As well as being responsible for what you can change, try accepting the things you can’t. We can’t always control what happens to us. 40 We can still choose our attitude. And most of the time, attitude
decides if you are truly a responsible person.
后文“You could say the bus was late, but being responsible means apologizing and accepting that it was your responsibility to get there on time.(你可以说公交车晚点了,但负责任意味着道歉并接受准时到达是你的责任)”讲述了面对迟到时负责任的做法,所以空处应是举一个迟到的例子,F 项“想象一下,同意见一个朋友,然后却迟到了。”
According to research, understanding you have control over your own actions makes you feel more positive and hopeful about the
前文“According to research, understanding you have control over your own actions makes you feel more positive and hopeful about the future.(根据研究,了解自己可以控制自己的行为会让你对未来感到更加积极和充满希望)”讲述了负责任可以让你对未来感到积极和充满希望,再结合接下来的例子和后文中的总结“Being responsible helps you to gain people’s trust.(负责任有助于你赢得人们的信任)”可知,空处应讲述的是负责任的另一个好处是可以让人们更加信任你,E 项“承担责任也能让别人更加信任你。”
后文“One way of doing this is by drawing a circle of control: what is in this circle of control and what is out of this circle.(一种方法是画一个控制圈:这个控制圈里有什么,这个控制圈外有什么)”讲述了通过画控制圈来把自己能控制的东西和无法控制的东西归类,所以空处应是讲了解自己能控制什么和不能控制什么,D 项“首先要了解什么是你能控制的,什么是你不能控制的。”符合题意,选项中的 what is in and out of your control与后文中的 what is in this circle of control and what is out of this circle 相照应。故选 D。
根据前文“We can’t always control what happens to us.(我们不能总是控制发生在我们身上的事情)”和后文 “We can still choose our attitude.(我们仍然可以选择自己的态度)”可知,空处应与前文形成转折,与下文相衔接,C 项“但我们可以控制我们如何应对。”

考查动词词义辨析。句意:当我的妹妹从 6 岁的时候,她开始模仿我的每一个动作。A. correcting 纠正;
根据下一句“She would repeat whatever I said or did(妹妹经常复制她说的话和做的事情)”可知,妹妹经常复制她说的话和做的事情。

A. room
根据上一句“Indi squeezed(挤)in so to
me that I could hardly see what I was doing(Indi 挤进来离我如此的近,以至于我都几乎看不到我在做什么了)”妹妹离我太近可知,接下来,我要要求妹妹离我远点,即给我一些空间。故选 A 项。
根据上一句“I asked her to give me more 5 but she said she was trying to see my move clearly(我要求她给我一些空间,但是她却说她
A. gradually 渐渐地;B. finally 最后;C. exactly 精确地;D. hardly 几乎不。
A. support 支持;B. surprise 使吃惊;C. follow 跟随;D. recognize 认出。根据上一段 “I asked her to give me more 5 (我要求她给我

A. But 但是;B. So 因此;C. 上一句“I didn't want Indi to 8 me so we went to the backyard(我不想妹妹
9 ten minutes later,Indi turned
up(但是,10 分钟之后,Indi 还是出现了)” 10 分钟之后,Indi 还是出现了。 故选 A 项。
骄傲;B. impressed with 对……有印象;C. unfamiliar with 对……
考查名词词义辨析。句意:Indi 很吃惊,她的眼中开始溢满泪水。A. tears 眼泪;B. life 生活,生命;
根据上句“you are always following me, and I’m it!(你总是跟着我,很讨

A. if 如果;B. though 虽然;C. before
根据上一句话“Indi was surprised and her eyes started filling up with 11
A. positive 积极的;B. sorry 抱歉的;C. powerful 强大的;D. confused 困惑的。

His mother turned to him and said, “Look Jim, talent without hard work is simply useless. That boy worked very hard and finally was successful. Hard work is the only way to success!” Now, Jim understood the importance of hard work. This event brought about a big change in his life.
