For the past year, I’ve spent many hours and many Tuesdays volunteering at a wonderful zoo. I worked in
the kitchen, helping to prepare food for the animals. This zoo is part of the AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums). Many animals here are part of a special program. The goal of this program is to protect animal species (物种) that are at risk or in danger of disappearing. The zoo has breeding plans to help these animals survive.
I quickly learned that it’s easy to love all the animals. I especially liked one animal right away — the zoo’ s prehensile-tailed porcupine (卷尾豪猪) named Fin. You might have seen YouTube videos of these animals eating and making cute noises. I learned that Fin really loves bananas and likes to peel them himself. One of my favorite things about Fin is his little nose, which looks like a pig’s nose.
I also learned that nothing gets done without teamwork from the animal keepers. Taking care of all the zoo animals requires a lot of work. The keepers know a lot about every animal in the zoo. They work very hard, day and night, to keep the animals safe and healthy. Even in winter, the keepers stay at the zoo to make sure all the animals are happy and fed.
Zoos are important. They teach visitors why we need to protect these animals and their homes. Most zoos care deeply for their animals and work very hard to keep them happy and healthy.
What do we know about the AZA program
It feeds animals with natural foods. B.It searches for uncommon animals. C.It saves species from dying out. D.It provides wild areas for animals.
What is one of the author’s favorite things about Fin
A.Fin’s love for bananas. B.Fin’s nose similar to a pig’s. C.Fin’s appearance in YouTube videos. D.Fin’s cute eating noises.
What does the author imply about zookeepers
They have medical backgrounds. B.They train animals for exercises. C.They become animals’ friends. D.They value animals’ emotions.
What can be inferred from the last paragraph
Zoos are not animal cages. B.Zoos should be free to all. C.Zoos are not as good as nature. D.Zoos should be under control.

A heritage language is a language that isn’t the “most powerful” language of a region, but is still learned by children in their homes (thus, it’s their heritage). Any language can be a heritage language, depending on the surrounding social context. English, for example, is often a primary language, but could technically be a heritage
language if someone’s English-speaking parents moved from, say, the United Kingdom to Japan.
Heritage languages can be someone’s native language, but the two terms aren’t interchangeable. A native language is the language or languages a person learns when they’re very young while heritage languages can be determined by a broad range of social and cultural factors. Usually, people speak their native language very well. Someone’s abilities in their heritage language can vary quite a bit, however. Some people may master it well because they learned it a lot when they were children, while others may speak it but not read it, and still others may struggle with speaking it at all.
The United States has over 56 million Spanish speakers, and a large part of those are heritage learners of the language. A research found that the percentage of people who report speaking Spanish “well” drops from 91 to 82 for first-and second-generation immigrants(移民). While that might seem small, it gets much more evident after that, with third - and fourth-generation immigrants dropping to 47 percent.
There are a couple of reasons why heritage languages—and Spanish in particular—tends to drop off from generation to generation. The first one is that the heritage language is less important to get around in society. When a person needs the majority language to go to school, get a job and interact with most people around them, it’s not surprising that the heritage language might seem less important. Another reason is some parents encourage their children not to use their heritage language. It’s unfortunate but true that speaking another language is still a cause for discrimination(歧视) today.
Heritage languages may have a hard time lasting from generation to generation, but it’s not only a story of
decline (衰 弱 ). There are countless people in the world who go out of their way to learn their heritage languages—some learn the heritage language later in life—and help others to do the same. If you’ve ever thought about reconnecting with a heritage language, it’s never too late to get started. There’s no time like the present.
How does the author present the issue in paragraph 1
By mentioning an expert. B.By explaining a term.
C.By describing a scene. D.By providing data.
What is paragraph 2 mainly about
The significance of learning heritage language s when little.
The variations in people’s abilities to speak heritage languages.
The differences between heritage languages and native languages.
The similarities between the broad range of social and cultural factors.
What is one reason for the decline of Heritage language s in the US
Appearance discrimination. B.Generation gap. C.Varying cultures. D.Losing popularity.
What can we know from the last paragraph
Parents play a key role in protecting heritage languages.
Heritage languages’ difficult time will end in the near future.
Efforts have been made towards the heritage languages’ survival.
Some people consider it too late to bring heritage languages back to life.
D
Financial education is not often taught to students in school, so the responsibility falls to the parents. However, many families believe that involving their children in how the family’s finances are handled is taboo. Financial planners, however, believe that involving children in financial matters is actually the best way to begin educating them.
“By keeping children away from financial discussions, you are really denying them an education,” says Joseph Oakley, host of the Enjoy More 30s podcast (播客) and a certified financial planner. “You’re denying them a framework to build upon.”
Oakley notes that children will finally develop their own financial mindset, which could be influenced by what they see on television, social media, or through their friends. When they get their first job, they’ll likely lack experience in handling finances because they don’t know enough about managing their money. According to Oakley, it is up to parents to teach them how to develop those skills.
Learning financial responsibility doesn’t have to be formal, Oakley says. Instead, it can be about showing children how to handle everyday money tasks, like paying bills online or using credit cards wisely. Another example is teaching them about spending now or saving for later, such as saving money for a vacation.
While childhood financial education is crucial, Oakley reveals a systemic imbalance: Over 80% of financial resources serve people preparing for retirement because that’s where most of the assets (资产) are. He stresses the importance of working with a financial planner when you are a young adult because waiting to speak to someone when you’re close to retirement could affect your financial plans. He says it is easier for younger people to make life-changing decisions and adjust their paths.
To hear more financial advice from Joseph Oakley on other topics, like how to set the right goals for financial success, check out our podcast K12 On Learning, available wherever you download your podcasts.

you.

Having a trusted friend, family member, or another resource to call on can relieve some of the everyday life stresses. They can be there to give advice or just support the decisions you’ve made that you feel are right for you.
Convey feelings and emotions

第二节(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Last Thursday when the competition exam ended, I changed two answers while the teacher was out answering a call. The eraser marks still stayed at the corner, where revising the answers turned the grade from 95 into 97 — this lying number — My family was really in great financial difficulty. Deep in my pencil case hid Jack’s draft paper, which dropped from his desk right at my feet, covered with his neat problem-solving steps.
That night at dinner, Mom handed me the last chicken leg, her fingertips still smelling of dish soap from the 24-hour diner night shift. “Principal Miller called”, she coughed, “all of the participants of the competition will attend the award ceremony next Monday, and as a winner, you’ll make a speech in front of all the audience.” I didn’t answer but just counted the pieces of cloth for repair on her apron (围裙), remembering her nighttime coughs during overtime shifts. My chopsticks tapped the bowl edge. The real winner should be Jack, who always stayed after class to explain equations (方程式) on the whiteboard. His score was 96.
Rain tapped against the classroom windows the next day. I found Jack in the empty classroom, chewing a
dry bread at his desk. His glasses were foggy from the wet walk to school. “Congratulations,” he wiped his glasses, pulling his bag with holes showing the stuffing, “Dad’s lost his job, and I really need that scholarship… never mind.”
Moonlight fell on my speech paper titled “Honesty and Hard Work.” I remembered Jack helping me with math after class, his finger drawing numbers in the air.“ Like this,” he’d say, giving me his eraser when mine broke.
I couldn’t fall asleep all that night. An inner voice echoed: “Do what makes you sleep well.” I stood outside the teachers’ office early the next morning. Through the door crack, I saw Principal Miller’s coffee cup steaming.注意:1. 续写词数应为 150 个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I took a deep breath and knocked on the principal’s door.
The ceremony arrived, and Principal Miller announced two scholarship winners: Jack and me.

W: I’m writing a report on Eleanor Roosevelt for my American History class. M: She was married to Franklin D. Roosevelt, right
W: Yeah, but even though she was married to him, she is independent and she didn’t always share his opinions.
M: Really
W: Yeah. She spoke up for the poor and minorities. In fact, she has a great record of human rights achievements. President Truman once called her the “First Lady of the World”.
M: How long does your report have to be
W: It has to be ten pages long, but I already have twenty pages of notes!
M: Well, you should probably figure out what major points you want to make and then only include evidence about them. It’ll be too much to include everything from her life.
W: Yeah. That’s good advice… Hey, by the way, can I use your computer to write it
M: Of course. But I lent it to my roommate earlier. I think he’ll be done using it soon. I’ll go to his room and get it, and then bring it to your apartment, OK
W: Thanks. I really appreciate it!

【原文】
Hello, everyone. The football stadium will be closed this week. That means the field and surrounding seats will not be open to students. The parking lot, however, is still open for extra space. Next, as you all know, next Monday marks the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so the school and all classes will be closed on that day. Next Tuesday will mark the National Teachers’ Meeting, so students will be back to school on Wednesday as normal. Moving on, if you have signed up for the annual ski trip at the end of the month, you will need your parents to call in and tell us that they are allowing you to go.
The trip costs $300 for students, and $100 more for anyone else. If your family belongs to the Town Savings Club, you will receive a gift card. Finally, we’d like to wish Tommy Harrison in Grade 10, Joan Mitchell in Grade 11, and Mark Chen in Grade 7 a very happy birthday.

For the past year, I’ve spent many hours and many Tuesdays volunteering at a wonderful zoo. I worked in the kitchen, helping to prepare food for the animals.
I especially liked one animal right away — the zoo’s prehensile-tailed porcupine (卷尾豪猪) named Fin.
【答案】24.C 25.B 26.D 27.A

C
A heritage language is a language that isn’t the “most powerful” language of a region, but is still learned by children in their homes (thus, it’s their heritage). Any language can be a heritage language, depending on the surrounding social context. English, for example, is often a primary language, but could technically be a heritage language if someone’s English-speaking parents moved from, say, the United Kingdom to Japan.
Heritage languages may have a hard time lasting from generation to generation, but it’s not only a
story of decline (衰弱). There are countless people in the world who go out of their way to learn their heritage languages—some learn the heritage language later in life—and help others to do the same. If you’ ve ever thought about reconnecting with a heritage language, it’s never too late to get started. There’s no
time like the present.
母语之间的差异。故选 C 项。
推理判断题。根据第四段“There are a couple of reasons why heritage languages—and Spanish in particular—tends to drop off from generation to generation. The first one is that the heritage language is less important to get around in society. When a person needs the majority language to go to school, get a job and interact with most people around them, it’s not surprising that the heritage language might seem
less important.
根据最后一段“There are countless people in the world who go out of their way to learn their heritage languages—some learn the heritage language later in life—and help others to do the same. If you’ve ever thought about reconnecting with a heritage language, it’s never too late to get started. There’s
no time like the present.(世界上有无数人努力去学习自己的传承语言——有些人是在人生的后期才开始学习的——并帮助他人也这样做。如果你曾经想过重新连接自己的传承语言,现在就是开始的最好时机)”可知,本段介绍了很多人为传承语言的继续存在而做出努力。故选 C 项。

Another example is teaching them about spending now or saving for later, such as saving money
for a vacation.
He says it is easier for younger people to make life-changing decisions and adjust their paths.

family’s finances are handled is taboo.(然而,许多家庭认为让孩子参与家庭财务管理是禁忌。)”可知,家长认为应避免让孩子接触家庭财务。故选 B 项。
细节理解题。 根据第三段“When they get their first job, they’ll likely lack experience in handling finances because they don’t know enough about managing their money.(当他们找到第一份工作时,可能缺乏理财经验,因为他们对资金管理了解不足。)”可知,Oakley 认为不让孩子参与财务讨论会导致其缺乏理财经验,C 项“financially inexperienced”与引文“lack experience in handling finances”同义。故选 C 项。
细节理解题。 根据第四段“Learning financial responsibility doesn’t have to be formal, Oakley says. Instead, it can be about showing children how to handle everyday money tasks, like paying bills online or using credit cards wisely.(Oakley 说,学习财务责任不一定是正式的。相反,它可以向孩子们展示如何处理日常的金钱任务,比如在线支付账单或明智地使用信用卡。)”可知,Oakley 建议通过生活实例进行非正式教育。故选 D 项。

It’s natural for people to compare themselves with their peers. Peer pressure is a force that nearly everyone has faced at some point. If it’s not well handled, there might be some destructive consequences.
36 Below are tips on how to deal with peer pressure and avoid making tough decisions that may trigger unfavorable outcomes.
Find positive influence
At any age, it’s beneficial to stay involved with extracurricular activities like sports, music, art, or other hobbies. Team building activities can help increase self-confidence and create a support system that allows an individual to succeed. Additionally, enjoying hobbies and other harmless pastimes like exercising can release feel-good hormones. 37
Plan ahead
Experiencing peer pressure, especially when in an unfriendly environment, can cause a person to panic and make impulsive decisions. 38 Think of different situations that spark discomfort and think about how to deal with peer pressure. It’s ok to give excuses to avoid making decisions that you may feel are not right for you.
39
Positive influences, usually parents or siblings, can teach you how to deal with peer pressure directly. Having a trusted friend, family member, or another resource to call on can relieve some of the everyday life stresses. They can be there to give advice or just support the decisions you’ve made that you feel are right for you.
Convey feelings and emotions
Honesty goes a long way in reducing the harmful effects of peer pressure. Speak to the person or group of people who may be causing feelings of unease or uncertainty and kindly ask them to stop. 40
Talk to a trusted resource.
Don’t be afraid to find new groups. C.Unfortunately, peer pressure is difficult to avoid. D.Therefore, it’s essential to know how to deal with it.

Should Senior High School Students Take Part in After-school Activities
【参考范文】 范文一(反对)
Our school newspaper asked if senior high students should join after-school activities. Some students say yes, believing activities help them find new interests, learn to work with others, and reduce worry. However, others feel differently.
I believe these activities are not a good idea for most students. High school studies are very important for our future. We need to work hard every day. After-school activities take valuable time away from finishing homework and preparing for tests. They also use energy we need to focus on our lessons. With so much schoolwork, adding activities makes life harder, not easier. It is better to wait until we have less school pressure.
范文二(支持)
Our school newspaper discusses whether senior high students should join after-school activities. Some worry these activities take time from homework and make students tired. Others argue that they help develop interests, improve teamwork skills, and reduce stress.
I strongly support joining these activities. While study is important, after-school activities teach us things books cannot. They let us explore new interests like music or sports. Working with classmates helps us learn to solve problems together and build friendships. Most importantly, they offer a break from heavy schoolwork, refreshing our minds and making learning easier later. Balancing activities and study is key, but their benefits shape us beyond the classroom.

I found Jack in the empty classroom, chewing a dry bread at his desk.
I couldn’t fall asleep all that night. An inner voice echoed: “Do what makes you sleep well.” I stood outside the teachers’ office early the next morning. Through the door crack, I saw Principal Miller’s coffee cup steaming.

【参考范文】
I took a deep breath and knocked on the principal’s door. Principal Miller’s coffee steam moved in the
air as I showed my changed answers. “The real score should be 95,” I said, pointing at the faint eraser marks on the paper. “I changed two answers here and that’s how the grade went up to 97.” When I gave her Jack’s draft paper with the solution process written on it, she touched the sunlight on his handwriting. “Two wrongs don’t make a right,” she said, “but one brave act can fix two hearts.” Her pen added both our names — mine in blue ink, Jack’s in gold.
The ceremony arrived, and Principal Miller announced two scholarship winners: Jack and me. The
crowd whispered until she raised my speech paper. “Look closely,” she said. Under the title “Honesty and Hard Work”, faint pencil marks showed where I’d written “Cheating” then erased it. “Growth is when mistakes become lessons,” she explained. Jack’s confused eyes met mine until Principal Miller pointed to his repaired backpack — His mother had mended the holes with cloth. “Some fix errors with erasers,” she said, “others mend hearts with threads.” When stage lights hit us, the 95 and 96 on our certificates blurred into one golden glow.
