In the area where Paola and James lived, there was a lot (一块地) filled with rubbish all around. Parents asked their children not to play there because the broken glass on the ground was too dangerous.
One day, James and Paola were talking about where they could meet some friends. Looking at the terrible lot, they wished a beautiful park could take its place. James’s mom supported their idea and suggested they should clean it up. But there was a problem—the recreational facilities (娱乐设施) would cost much money.
They decided to raise money. They tried selling their old toys and clothes at first, but only raised a little. Then they held a cookie sale and made a sign that said, “Help Build Our Park!”. They put it up around the neighborhood. As word about what they were doing spread, more and more people volunteered, offering money and materials. After a few months, they had enough money to begin their project.
The first thing they did was to organize a meeting to collect ideas for making the park an interesting place. They all agreed there should be some sports equipment (设备).
With money and the plan, they started. Kids picked up rubbish, while their parents moved large sports equipment.
Finally, the lot was turned into a real park. They named it “Everybody’s Park” because everyone in the community helped make it. At the big opening party, everyone smiled when they raised the sign that said “Everybody’s Park”. The names of everyone who made efforts to build the park were written on the sign, and the kids read them aloud.

Celebrities (名人) are everywhere nowadays: on TV, in magazines, online. People think and talk about them a lot. Is this harmless fun or is it bad for us How many people are truly crazy about modern idols (偶像) And on the other side of the coin, is being famous harmful to the celebrities
Studies suggest that most of the teenagers do not really idolize celebrities. Researchers have found three kinds of fans. About 15% of young people have a social interest. They love chatting about their favorite celebrities with friends and this does not appear to do any harm.
Another 5% feel that they have a strong personal relationship with a celebrity. Sometimes they see them as their soul-mates (心灵伴侣) and find that they are often thinking about them, even when they don’t want to. These people are easy to feel depressed. If girls in this group idolize a woman star with a body they consider to be perfect, they are more likely to be unhappy with their own bodies.
That leaves 2% of young people with an unreasonable interest. They might spend several thousand pounds on a paper plate the celebrity had used, or they would do something lawbreaking. These people are in most danger of being seriously upset.
What about the celebrities themselves Some researchers in the USA did a study to find out the effect of being famous on these people. The study showed celebrities showed off too much and they were very narcissistic (自恋的). The researchers looked at 200 celebrities, 200 young adults with high education, who were a group known for being narcissistic, and some general population. As the researchers expected, the celebrities were much more narcissistic than the people with high education and both of these two groups were a lot more narcissistic than the general population.
Four kinds of celebrities were included in the study. The most narcissistic were the ones who had become famous through reality TV shows. Next came comedians (喜剧演员), and then actors. The least narcissistic were musicians. One interesting result was that there was no connection between narcissism and the length of time the celebrity had been famous.
So, what can we learn from this Most people who are very successful or famous are usually self-centered and are likely to act only for their own benefits. As we can see from celebrity magazines, they also often feel lonely and even hopeless. They make harmful role models.
27.The underlined word “depressed” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”.

In today’s world, where over 4 billion people own a smartphone, charging our phones has become part of our daily life just like brushing our teeth or getting dressed in the morning.
But over time, batteries stop working well, and a phone that used to last all day may suddenly need charging all the time. The problem lies in how we charge our phones. Most phone batteries today can be charged about 500 times and work well for 2 to 3 years. After that, they start holding less power. Unfortunately, most smartphones don’t have batteries that are easy to change. So when a battery starts failing, many people just buy a new phone, which creates waste.
To help reduce this problem, the European Union passed a law requiring phone companies to make batteries easy to remove and change by 2027.
But what can be done until then to keep your phone’s battery healthy One common mistake is always charging your phone to 100%. This is bad for the battery and shortens its life. Instead, try to keep the battery between 20% and 80%. Letting a phone get too hot can also harm the battery. And using your phone while charging makes it heat up, which breaks the battery faster. If you’re charging your phone while you sleep, keep it on a hard, cool surface—not under a pillow or blanket—to stop it from overheating. Experts also say you shouldn’t use cheap chargers, because they may overheat your phone. It’s best to use the charger that comes with the phone.
Small changes in how you charge your phone can make a big difference, helping your battery last longer, and reducing waste.
30.How does the writer start the passage
A.By explaining technical words. B.By describing a personal experience.
C.By listing the number of smartphones. D.By comparing with daily habits.
31.What can we infer about the European Union
A.It pays attention to environmental protection.
B.It is making a law to make more batteries.
C.It requires phone companies to keep the phone’s battery healthy.
D.It cares more about money than new technology.
32.What is the main purpose of the last paragraph
A.To compare different charging habits.
B.To explain how to help your battery last longer.
C.To stress small changes can be important.
D.To show the importance of reducing waste.
33.Which is the best title for the passage
A.Why Phone Batteries Are Easy to Fail B.How to Use Your Phone Safely
C.How to Make Smartphones Reduce Waste D.How to Make Your Phone Battery Last Longer
四、任务型阅读
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
As the world marks the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism (反法西斯), a moving Chinese film, Dead To Rights, gives us a special look at history. The film does not show big war scenes. Instead, it uses the photo studio to show how ordinary people wake up and fight back in difficult times of history.
In the fallen city, among those who find safety in Jixiang Photo Studio is a postman called Su Liuchang, played by Liu Haoran. He was ordered to develop films for Japanese soldiers. He accidentally finds photos that show their cruel crimes. They risked their lives to keep these photos and show them to the world.
Dead To Rights turns out to be a huge success. All the actors and actresses are strictly chosen and they all play their roles very well. Besides, a lot of preparation has been made before shooting the movie, such as technical work, realistic sets, background music and historical facts.
However, there is something more. When the studio owner Lao Jin shouts, “Every inch of our beautiful land must never be given up,” or when modern Nanjing streets are intercut (穿插) with wartime ruins, viewers feel deeply what our forefathers (先辈) have done to protect truth and dignity. “While watching the movie, I see not just history coming to life like a photo, but a symbol of a strong, unbroken spirit of our nation,” a 24-year-old university student from Nanjing says.
Dead To Rights is a serious look back and a deep thought on history. So far, many similar movies have been brought to the screen. They all have something in common, reminding us to remember the past and cherish today’s peace.
34.Does the movie Dead To Rights tell a story by showing big war scenes
35.What does Su Liuchang find while developing films for Japanese soldiers

38.例文
During this summer holiday, I decided to learn to cook Chinese dishes with my mom. Every weekend, she taught me how to make tomato and egg soup—a simple but delicious dish. At first, I burned the eggs and added too much salt, but I didn’t give up. After practicing several times, I finally mastered it.
One evening, I joined a small family dinner and cooked this soup for my grandparents. When they tasted it, they smiled and said it was the best soup they had ever had! Hearing their praise, I felt a warm sense of joy—I never expected my small effort could make them so happy.
I really enjoyed myself during this whole process. This experience not only helped me learn a useful life skill, but also made me understand the hard work behind every meal my mom prepares. I felt proud of myself for sticking to learning cooking and bringing happiness to my family. This summer holiday experience is meaningful, and I will never forget it.
