意 群 (sense group)
定义:是句子内部意义相对完整的一组词。
一个句子可以是一个大意群,也可分为若干个小意群。
停顿:句子内的意群之间停顿时间较短,用一根竖直线(|)标出。
句子和句子之间的停顿时间较长,用两根竖直线(‖)标出。
Tip:每个意群要一口气说完。在说每个意群时,要注意词与词之间的连读、不完全爆破和词的弱读等现象.
停顿规则
逗号和句号是最基本的意群划分符号,也是口语中应该停顿的地方。
句号表示更长的停顿, 逗号表示更短的停顿。
连接词如and,but,or等也是常见的意群划分单位,在它们前面可以适当的停顿
eg:Would you like to mop the floor | or clean the window
较长的句子中,基于意群划分在句中适当停顿,有助于听者更好地理解语义。
eg. Mum, | can I invite my friends | to our new house
Practice Pausing
Jack went to the park | with his friends | yesterday.
I think | reading is a great activity, | and I go to the library | to read books | at least | twice or three times a month. ‖ Reading can open my eyes | and increase my knowledge.
2. Listen and read. Notice the sense groups and pauses.
