Frogs Are Good for Us
We can see frogs everywhere in summer. Though they don’t look nice, they are good for us.
Frogs are interesting animals. They can live not only on land but also in water. The smallest frogs are about the size of a pea, while the larger ones can grow as big as a human hand.
What do they eat They usually eat insects which are bad for plants. For this reason, we believe that frogs help to protect plants, especially crops that we live on. How great they are!
However, to our disappointment, the number of frogs is becoming fewer and fewer. They need our help. Let’s love them and do something together to save as many frogs as possible!

If an American friend invites you to his or her home for dinner, keep in mind these important rules.
First of all, arrive on time (but not early). Americans expect promptness (准时). It’s OK to be ten or fifteen minutes late but not forty-five minutes late.
Second, it is polite to bring a small gift. Flowers or candies are always good. If you take a special gift that is made in your own country, your friend will certainly enjoy accepting that.
Wearing beautiful clothes and a smile are good but not enough. Table manners (礼仪) are also very important. Do not open your mouth to talk when you are eating food. Also, chew food with your mouth closed. When you want to get food that is a little far from you, do not stretch (伸出) your hands to reach for it. Ask others to pass the food to you.
After dinner, don’t leave at once, but don’t stay at your friend’s house for too long, either. When your friend seems to be getting tired, tell him or her that you need to leave. The next day, call or write to say how much you enjoyed the evening.
21.When you go to an American friend’s home for dinner, what can you do
A.Arrive fifteen minutes early. B.Arrive five minutes early. C.Arrive ten minutes late.
22.How many table manners are mentioned (提及) in the passage
A.Two. B.Three. C.Four.
23.Which is the best title for the passage
A.An American friend invites you for dinner
B.Table manners in America
C.Don’t arrive on time if an American friend invites you
B
Friends are important for everyone. But it’s not easy to find friends. For most students, true friends are harder to find. If you have some good friends, you should do your best to keep your friendships.
It’s the easiest to make friends and keep friendships with people who have similar interests or hobbies to you. You can spend happy and relaxing time together, and share your feelings about your interests. However, sometimes it’s not necessary for you to be the same. You may have different ideas and habits. Then trying to understand and respect each other seems to be more important.
The way you talk with your friends is important. When you talk with them, ask questions to help them start and keep talking. But don’t ask personal questions, such as their parents’ jobs and salaries (薪水). These questions will make them feel unhappy. They may dislike talking with you and try to walk away. In that way, you may lose some friends and your friends will be fewer and fewer.
Another important thing is listening. Listen carefully to what your friend is talking about, and respond in the right way. It doesn’t have to be with words. Body language can be enough to show that you're listening. Talk about your ideas after your friend finishes his talking.
In short, we should do our best to keep friendships as long as possible. Friends and friendships help make our lives more wonderful.
24.We should try to keep friendships because _________.
A.we can’t make new friends
B.friends are important but difficult to find
C.friends are easy to walk away

A.two B.three C.four
27.Which of the following should you NOT ask your friends
A.Do you like swimming
B.What do you think of the new movie
C.How much money do your parents have

Millions of years ago, dinosaurs controlled the Earth. And there were different kinds of dinosaurs on the Earth. Some of them were no bigger than chickens while some were about 90 feet long. But all of them had very small brains. Later on, there weren’t any dinosaurs. What happened to them
In the days of dinosaurs, the whole Earth was warm and wet. There were many green forests. But the Earth changed slowly all the time. When parts of the Earth became freezing and dry, the forests there died. Then dinosaurs could not find enough food to eat. This must be one reason why dinosaurs were extinct.
There were also terrible fights between dinosaurs. Though there was no man to see any of the fights, the animals’ footprints could tell us that the fights did happen.
What’s another reason We can make a guess. New kinds of animals might have come to the Earth. Some of them had big brains, and were fast and strong. They could kill dinosaurs. Some ate dinosaur eggs too.
There may be other reasons that we do not know about. Each year people find some dinosaur footprints and bones. Scientists are trying to tell us more about dinosaurs.
28.Dinosaurs controlled the Earth when ______.
A.the Earth was covered by grass B.the Earth was warm and wet
C.the Earth was covered by snow D.the Earth was freezing and dry
29.What does the underlined expression “were extinct” mean in Paragraph 2
A.died out. B.cried out. C.felt thirsty. D.went hungry.
30.How many reasons for dinosaurs’ disappearance are talked about in the text
A.Two. B.Three. C.Four. D.Five.

Bamboo is a kind of wonderful plant for many people around the world. 32 People make tables, clothes, medicine, and musical instruments with it. Pandas may eat bamboo every day, and people can eat bamboo shoots.

The speed of growth depends on the type of bamboo, the earth and the season. Normal bamboo grows 3-10 cm a day. It usually grows in hot areas. 33 Bamboo plants are found in Asia, Australia, parts of Africa, and South America.
One of the world’s oldest building materials is bamboo. Like today, people used it because it was very strong. They used it to build houses, boats, and bridges. Chinese people made a bamboo bridge over the Minjiang River in Sichuan, China almost 1, 000 years ago. 34 Also, bamboo is still used to make houses today, especially in China and the Philippines.
As a part of history, bamboo is very important. The great scientist Thomas Edison did not invent the light bulb (灯泡), but he made it perfect. He wanted the material inside to burn for a long period of time. He tried over 1, 000 different types of materials. 35 One day, he tried to use a piece of bamboo and the light bulb lit up for over a thousand hours. This invention helped other scientists to make the modern light bulb we use today.
A.You can still visit it today.

The WWF (世界自然基金会) has warned that climate change is threatening (威胁) the life of the snow leopards (雪豹) in the Himalayas (喜马拉雅山脉). It says rising temperatures cause the natural living places of the big cat to the point that snow leopards could die out. In a new report, it says that up to a third of the areas on the mountain where the snow leopards live could become uninhabitable (不宜居住的). Lots of plants and food the animals need could disappear in warmer temperatures. The WWF said, “The Himalayas area will face danger if we choose not to care about climate change...We will lose the snow leopard.”
It isn’t just climate change that is making a serious threat to the future of the snow leopard. Many activities from humans are also adding to the dangers the animals face. Snow leopards are highly needed for their fur and body parts. People are killing the animals for money. The snow leopards are also being killed by farmers when they are trying to protect their animals. As the natural food of the snow leopards is decreasing, the animals are going into human areas to kill farm animals. The result is that the farmers shoot the snow leopards. The WWF reported this result on Friday, which was the first International Snow Leopard Day.
