【课文解析】
Smart homes
In a smart home, the internet controls everything from heating (heat) to cooking. Smart devices share information with each other. Smart homes “talk” to us and guide [ɡa d] our activities.
Better personal care
Smart homes learn what their owners (own) often do. An alarm clock keeps track of its owner’s sleeping schedule and sets itself (自行设置). Health care (医疗服务) devices know when their owners are not feeling well (good/well) and order medicine.

What is the Internet of Things？
The Internet of Things (IoT物联网) connects machines to the internet. They send and receive information, talking to themselves and to other (other/another/the other) people. This helps people solve (solve) problems before (after/before) they arise(发生；出现). Now, GPT（＝Generative Pre-trained Transformer）生成型预训练转换器 makes it easier to design and manage [ m n d ] IoT projects.
The smart home is one of the most common IoT projects (project). Smart devices such as your washing machine, lights, music player, TV and air conditioner can communicate with you. They can let you know (know) when your washing is done, when the temperature in your home is too high, or when your favourite football match is on TV.
IoT will allow smart devices at home to better understand people’s (people) behaviour and even the feelings behind the behaviour.

Last week we went on a school trip to a science museum. Ms Liu, the guide, showed us around a smart home.
