From natural wonders to cultural heritage, Wang Fang has re-created 1,800 destinations from China and around the world out of butter and flour. These micro-landscape cakes are rich in details and lifelike.
Wang got involved in the art as a result of special requests from her former colleagues, who were most of her customers in the early days of her baking career. She had been working at a Chinese technology company as a visual designer for four years. As her experience grew, Wang discovered that baking was her true calling and quit her job in 2018. Wang Fang learned the basic skills of cake making from a professional cake maker. Then she opened her dessert studio. Not content with traditional buttercream cakes, she began to make cakes of various shapes.
Wang recently took a three-day course on creating cake flavors. She’d like to add a wider range of flavors to her cakes. She’s also planning to introduce smaller cakes that are cheaper and designed for daily consumption. Wang feels that she is making money doing something she loves. The key lies in following the heart, choosing to do what she loves and enjoying the happiness that comes with it.

Best Family-Friendly Art Galleries in London
Whitechapel Gallery
Whitechapel Gallery has long played an important role in providing access to art for its nearby community and beyond. As well as education projects, every summer the Children’s Commission challenges an artist to create new works to specifically engage with children aged 4 to 12. It is the Crib Notes session that makes it stand out from the crowd, but advanced booking is a must.
Tate Modern
Tate Modern is a fantastic option for art-loving parents who are seeking to introduce their children to modern art in a relaxing and inspiring environment. For families with younger children, the Turbine Hall provides a welcome space. For those seeking a more organized visit, there are various activities during weekends and school holidays.
SPACE
Established in the 1960s, SPACE manages to focus on providing affordable creative workspace for young promising artists. The main gallery is a casual fair, making it less of a gallery and more of a great local option for families who want to see what’s on offer on their way to or from nearby London Fields.
Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery
Due to its fascinating history, the free monthly tour helps to bring the many rooms of the house to life for young visitors. However, a self-guided expedition of the house is attractive. It features two magnificent skylights (天窗) which reflect the contemporary style of art on display. As well as artist-led workshops for schools, the gallery is hugely popular with families of pre-school children and regular talks for all ages are the best worth looking out for.
21. What is the artist asked by the Children’s Commission likely to do
A. Present the gallery’s artworks to young children.
B. Produce original pieces and interact with young kids.
C. Restore old artworks in the collection.

My name is Stephen Gleadow, and I’m originally from America. I’ve lived in Beijing for over 17 years, and during this time, I’ve seen a lot of films, enjoying China’s lively culture and art scene. My connection with China began during my college years in the United States, where I studied art. It was there that I first encountered the works of Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, such as Raise the Red Lantern and To Live. These films, with their rich storytelling and profound cultural insights, left a lasting impression on me. They opened a window into Chinese history and society, sparking a deep curiosity that eventually led me to explore the country further.
This interest was further developed by an independent study program I participated in during college, which took me to Hong Kong. Being so close to mainland China, I felt a growing desire to learn more about its culture and art. These experiences played a key role in shaping my decision to move to Beijing. I wanted to be part of the art world here, to engage with its creative community, and to contribute to the cultural exchange between China and the rest of the world.
Over the years, I’ve witnessed significant growth in China’s art scene. Today, it’s common to see internationally famous artists exhibiting their work in major Chinese cities. While this is a positive development, I believe there’s still room for more opportunities, particularly for lesser-known artists. It would be exciting to see emerging talents from around the world come to China. Such actions could promote international relations, cultural exchange, and a deeper connection with the global art community.
As someone deeply involved in the art world here, I look forward to seeing more opportunities for foreign artists to engage with China. By creating platforms for cultural communication and cooperation, we can build stronger relationships and enrich the artistic landscape for everyone involved.
24. What first aroused Stephen’s interest in China
A. His college life in Beijing.
B. His art education in the United Kingdom.
C. His independent study in Hong Kong.
D. His exposure to Zhang Yimou’s films.
25. How did Stephen’s experience in Hong Kong affect his choice to move to Beijing
A. It stopped him from exploring mainland China.
B. It strengthened his desire to learn about Chinese culture and art.
C. It made him want to live in Hong Kong forever.
D. It introduced him to famous Chinese artists.
26. What is Stephen’s hope for the future of China’s art scene
A. To only concentrate on advancing Chinese artists.
B. To stop the growth of the local art market.
C. To limit cultural exchange with other countries.
D. To see more foreign artists interact with China.
27. What is the passage mainly about
A. Stephen’s exploration of China’s art and his expectations.
B. The effect of Zhang Yimou’s films on Stephen.
C. Stephen’s personal art creation journey in Beijing.
D. The development of art exchange between China and the United States.
D 25. B 26. D 27. A
根据第一段中“My connection with China began during my college years in the United States, where I studied art. It was there that I first encountered the works of Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, such as Raise the Red Lantern and To Live. These films, with their rich storytelling and profound cultural insights, left a lasting impression on me. They opened a window into Chinese history and society, sparking a deep curiosity that eventually led me to explore the country further.(在那里,我第一次接触到中国电影导演张艺谋的作品,如《大红灯笼高高挂》和《活着》。这些电影以其丰富的故事情节和深刻的文化内涵给我留下了深刻的印象。它们打开了一扇了解中国历史和社会的窗户,激发了我深深的好奇心,最终促使我进一步探索这个国家)”可知,张艺谋的作品最初激发了Stephen对中国的兴趣,故选D。
25. 细节理解题。根据第二段中“This interest was further developed by an independent study program I participated in during college, which took me to Hong Kong. Being so close to mainland China, I felt a growing desire to learn more about its culture and art. These experiences played a key role in shaping my decision to move to Beijing.(这种兴趣在我大学期间参加的一个独立学习项目中得到了进一步的发展,该项目将我带到了香港。离中国大陆这么近,我越来越想了解中国的文化和艺术。这些经历在我决定搬到北京的过程中发挥了关键作用)”可知,香港的经历加深了他对中国文化和艺术的渴望,促使他移居北京,故选B。

C
The urban fruit flies that fly around the apples on your counter have to navigate(导航)a rich visual environment to find that food. Desert fruit flies, not so much. They fly through a mostly empty landscape with fewer predictable barriers to find certain fruit. Nonetheless, it has long been believed that other species of fruit flies navigate and maintain balance the same way as urban fruit flies. But a new study contradicts that belief.
Flying fruit flies have two jobs: to head toward interesting things, and also stay stable during flight. Like humans, vision helps fruit flies move straight and stay stable while navigating toward attractive objects. Looking at interesting things interrupts the vision needed to stay stable.
To study how the two types of fruit flies navigate, the researchers designed a system that let the flies interact with objects while tracking their body and eye movements with a camera. They glued a tiny piece of metal to the fly’s back and connected it to a magnet (磁铁) hanging from the top of a round, drum-like device. Another magnet at the bottom of the drum created a magnetic field that held the metal exactly in position while allowing the fly to move around within the drum. The walls of the drum were covered with LED lights and a computer created different moving shapes in various sizes and directions using the lights. The fly could choose how to interact with these virtual objects. One of the objects was a vertical bar (垂直条形物) that looked like something natural, like a tree. This was designed to test how the fly would use the bar and background to navigate.
The desert flies ignored the background and moved to follow the vertical bar smoothly, while the urban flies only relied on the background to navigate smoothly.Desert and urban flies both made rapid eye movements, called saccades, to follow objects that moved along a continuous path.
Fruit flies are often used in experiments studying visual perception and processing. The finding expands the possibilities for what scientists can learn about vision in humans and can also be used to aid the development of autonomous vehicles.
28. What belief about fruit flies has been held for a long time
A. They have excellent hunting abilities.
B. They use the same navigating strategy.
C. They can adjust to complex environments.
D. They can deal with predictable barriers well.
29. What is the fundamental flight challenge described in paragraph 2
A. Telling food from blocking objects.
B. Handling multiple visual signals at once.
C. Limited visual sharpness in complex settings.
D. Balancing target-tracking with flight stability.
30. Why were LED lights used in the experiment
A. To effectively monitor the fruit flies’ stability.
B. To closely observe the eye movements of fruit flies.
C. To produce virtual objects for fruit flies to interact with.
D. To follow the fruit flies’ movements during the experiment.
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. The Visual Navigation Strategies of Fruit Flies
B. Fruit Flies’ Visual Processing Preferences
C. The Great Survival Ability of Fruit Flies
D. Fruit Flies’ Environmental Adaptations
B 29. D 30. C 31. A
根据第一段中的“Nonetheless, it has long been believed that other species of fruit flies navigate and maintain balance the same way as urban fruit flies.(尽管如此,长久以来人们一直认为其他种类的果蝇和城市果蝇一样,以相同的方式导航和保持平衡)”可知,长期以来人们认为其他种类的果蝇和城市果蝇导航和保持平衡的方式相同,也就是它们采用相同的导航策略。故选B。
根据第二段“Flying fruit flies have two jobs: to head toward interesting things, and also stay stable during flight. Like humans, vision helps fruit flies move straight and stay stable while navigating toward attractive objects. Looking at interesting things interrupts the vision needed to stay stable.(飞行的果蝇有两项任务:一是飞向有趣的东西,二是在飞行过程中保持稳定。和人类一样,视觉能帮助果蝇在飞向有吸引力的物体时保持直线飞行和稳定。看有趣的东西会干扰保持稳定所需的视觉)”可推知,果蝇飞行时面临的基本挑战是在追踪目标和保持飞行稳定之间取得平衡。故选D。
30. 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“The walls of the drum were covered with LED lights and a computer created different moving shapes in various sizes and directions using the lights. The fly could choose how to interact with these virtual objects.(鼓的墙壁上覆盖着LED灯,电脑用这些灯创造出不同大小和方向的运动形状。果蝇可以选择如何与这些虚拟物体互动)”可知,LED 灯是用来创造虚拟物体让果蝇与之互动的。故选C。
31. 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段的“The urban fruit flies that fly around the apples on your counter have to navigate (导航) a rich visual environment to find that food. Desert fruit flies, not so much. They fly through a mostly empty landscape with fewer predictable barriers to find certain fruit. Nonetheless, it has long been believed that other species of fruit flies navigate and maintain balance the same way as urban fruit flies. But a new study contradicts that belief.(在你柜台上的苹果周围飞行的城市果蝇必须在丰富的视觉环境中导航才能找到食物。沙漠果蝇,没那么多。它们飞过一片空旷的土地,没有多少可预测的障碍来寻找某些水果。尽管如此,长期以来人们一直认为,其他种类的果蝇与城市果蝇一样导航和保持平衡。但一项新的研究与这一观点相矛盾)”可知,文章主要介绍了一项关于果蝇视觉导航策略的研究,介绍了研究的过程和发现。所以A选项“果蝇的视觉导航策略”最符合文章标题。故选A。
D
“Digital switching” is a term referring to the modern habit of swiping(刷)through and fast-forwarding online videos. Researchers from Canada did some exploration of it.
Kay Y. Y. Tam, a psychology researcher, launched the study after noticing herself — and pretty much everyone else — swiping through online videos. This behavior was connected with the “Boredom Feedback Model”, a theory she had published in 2021. Boredom, she proposed, is rooted in attention shifts. These shifts often occur when there’s a gap between how engaged people actually feel and how engaged they want to feel. The unpleasant emotion can develop when a situation lacks novelty or meaning.
“As digital switching involves frequent attention shifts, I wondered how this behavior might influence our feelings of boredom,” Tam said.
In her study, more than 1,200 participants, many of them university students, first watched a single video for ten minutes. They were then presented with seven shorter videos, with the option to skip to the next. On average, they skipped eight times — but reported feeling more bored and less engaged when they watched the single video. Participants had a similar experience in another similar experiment.
“I’m convinced that switching, when it comes to videos, is not a good idea if the goal is to have an enjoyable experience,” said Erin Westgate, a professor of psychology. “Sitting and toughing it out is likely a better choice.” The new findings add to a growing body of evidence that boredom is on the rise, despite a world filled with content we can access at all times. People who are bored often turn to their phones, only to feel more bored. Swiping on social media has also been linked to increased feelings of boredom.
Boredom can motivate people to explore their environment and to stop investing time in an activity that has little to offer. However, if we rely too much on quick escapes, it would be like an animal jumping from tree to tree in search of food without staying long enough to see if a tree bears fruit. That animal risks starvation.
32. What is the cause of attention shifts according to Tam’s theory
A. The unsatisfied desire. B. The feeling of boredom.
C. The level of involvement. D. The absence of emotion.
33. What does Tam’s study of “digital switching” focus on
A. Its reason. B. Its outcome.
C. Its solution. D. Its theoretical basis.
34. What is the main purpose of the last paragraph
A. To solve a problem. B. To offer advice.
C. To raise a question. D. To give a warning.
35. What does the comparison between “digital switching” and an animal jumping from tree to tree imply
A. Digital switching can result in a waste of time and effort.
B. Animals are more efficient than humans in searching for resources.
C. Boredom is a natural response to unproductive activities.
D. Quick escapes can prevent us from achieving meaningful engagement.
A 33. B 34. D 35. D
根据第二段中的“Boredom, she proposed, is rooted in attention shifts. These shifts often occur when there’s a gap between how engaged people actually feel and how engaged they want to feel. The unpleasant emotion can develop when a situation lacks novelty or meaning.(她提出,无聊源于注意力转移。当人们实际的投入程度与他们想要的投入程度之间存在差距时,这些转移经常会发生。当一种情况缺乏新奇感或意义时,这种不愉快的情绪就会产生。)”可知,当人们实际投入程度与想要的投入程度有差距时,注意力就会转移,由此可知,注意力转移的原因是人们未满足的欲望。故选A项。
根据第三段中的““As digital switching involves frequent attention shifts, I wondered how this behavior might influence our feelings of boredom,” Tam said.( ‘由于数字切换涉及频繁的注意力转移,我想知道这种行为可能如何影响我们的无聊感,’塔姆说。)”以及第四段中的“On average, they skipped eight times — but reported feeling more bored and less engaged when they watched the single video. Participants had a similar experience in another similar experiment.(平均来说,他们跳过了八次——但当他们观看单个视频时,他们表示感到更无聊,投入度更低。参与者在另一个类似的实验中也有类似的经历。)”可知,塔姆对“数字切换”的研究重点是这种行为的后果,即人们在进行“数字切换”后感到更无聊和投入度更低。故选B项。
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Boredom can motivate people to explore their environment and to stop investing time in an activity that has little to offer. However, if we rely too much on quick escapes, it would be like an animal jumping from tree to tree in search of food without staying long enough to see if a tree bears fruit.
根据最后一段中的“However, if we rely too much on quick escapes, it would be like an animal jumping from tree to tree in search of food without staying long enough to see if a tree bears fruit. That animal risks starvation.(然而,如果我们过度依赖快速逃避,就像一只动物从一棵树跳到另一棵树寻找食物,却没有停留足够的时间去看一棵树是否结果。那只动物有饿死的风险。)”可知,将“数字切换”与动物从一棵树跳到另一棵树作比较,意味着快速逃避(“数字切换”)会阻止我们实现有意义的投入,就像动物没有在一棵树上停留足够时间,无法收获果实一样。故选D项。

We’ve all been there—you’ve sent a message and it’s marked “read", but you haven’t heard anything back. What’s the deal While being left on read(已读不回)can be confusing, it’s also pretty common. 36 Here are a few tips.
Expect the best. Remind yourself that the person is probably just busy. Ask yourself if you actually know their schedule. There could be some time commitments you aren’t aware of. Here are a few other reasons for a delayed response. 37 They put their phone away to focus on work or school. They accidentally forgot to reply. Maybe they thought about what they wanted to say but didn’t actually text it.
Resist the temptation (诱惑) to double-text. 38 If you send a lot of follow-up texts, it’ll be hard for them to keep up and they might get stressed. Leave them with just one text to catch up on—the other person will probably appreciate your patience.
Read over your previous messages. See if there are any confusing texts that you need to clarify. It’s okay if you review your message again and notice that it might have been a little unclear—it happens! 39
40 Keep it out of sight and get some peace of mind. Don’t let it upset or confuse you. If you get your mind off any notifications, you’ll be able to brainstorm new ways to spend your time.
A. Put your phone away.
B. Pay full attention to the text replies.
C. Offer them some time and opportunity to answer.
D. They want to give you a longer reply but can’t do it right now.
E. Ask yourself why being left on “read” frustrates or confuses you.
F. You can prevent this situation from troubling you before getting a reply.
G. You may feel better if you find a message that could be misunderstood.
F 37. D 38. C 39. G 40. A
根据后文“Here are a few tips.(这里有一些建议)”以及前文“it’s also pretty common.(这种情况很常见)”可知,空处应该是承上启下说明可以应用这些建议避免被影响,所以F项“You can prevent this situation from troubling you before getting a reply. (你可以避免这种情况困扰你)”符合文意。故选F项。
37. 根据上文“Here are a few other reasons for a delayed response.(以下是延迟响应的其他一些原因。)”以及下文“They put their phone away to focus on work or school. They accidentally forgot to reply. Maybe they thought about what they wanted to say but didn’t actually text it. (他们把手机收起来,专注于工作或学习。他们不小心忘了回复。也许他们想到了他们想说什么,但实际上并没有发短信。)”可知,空处是延迟响应的可能原因,与D项“They want to give you a longer reply but can’t do it right now.(他们想给你更长的回复,但现在不能)”上下文一致,符合文意。故选D项。
38. 根据前文“Resist the temptation to double- text.(不要信息轰炸对方)”以及后文“If you send a lot of follow- up texts, it’ll be hard for them to keep up and they might get stressed. Leave them with just one text to catch up on—the other person will probably appreciate your patience.(如果你发了很多后续短信,他们很难跟上,他们可能会感到压力。只给他们留一条信息,让他们跟上进度——对方可能会感激你的耐心)”可知,本段讲述不要一直给对方发信息,要给对方一些时间,让他们跟上你的信息,所以C项“Offer them some time and opportunity to answer.(给他们一点时间,让他们有机会回答)”符合文意。故选C项。
39. 根据段首句“Read over your previous messages. (阅读你之前的信息)”,及上文“See if there are any confusing texts that you need to clarify. It’s okay if you review your message again and notice that it might have been a little unclear—it happens! (看看是否有什么令人困惑的文本需要澄清。如果你再次查看你的信息,并注意到它可能有点不清楚,这是没有关系的——这种情况发生了!)可知,再次查看信息可能会发现一些被误读的东西,与G项“You may feel better if you find a message that could be misunderstood. (可能会感觉好多了,当你发现了一些容易被误读的东西)”上下文一致,符合文意。故选G项。
40. 根据下句“Keep it out of sight and get some peace of mind.(把它放在你看不到的地方,让你的内心平静下来)”以及后文“Don’t let it upset or confuse you. If you get your mind off any notifications, you’ll be able to brainstorm new ways to spend your time.(不要让它困扰或迷惑你。如果你不去想任何通知,你就能头脑风暴出新的打发时间的方法)”可知,本段主题是把手机放到一边,眼不见,心不烦。与其纠结为什么会被“已读不回”,不如放下手机,做些更有意义的事。所以A项“Put your phone away.(把手机收起来)”起到概括作用,符合文意。故选A项。

Percy Shelley, an English poet, was born on August 4th, 1792. He is 56 (wide) known as one of the most important 57 (figure) of the Romantic Movement in English literature. Shelley received early education at home and later 58 (admit) to Eton College at the age of 12, which has a long history of more than 500 years, 59 (date) back to the 15th century. Then he attended Oxford University shortly after he turned 18.
As 60 romantic poet, some of his poems, like Ode to the West Wind and Ode to A Skylark, are among the most famous poems in English. 61 , in his own time, Shelley was very unpopular for his political and 62 (religion) views. Fortunately, he successively(先后地,连续地) met Byron and Keats and befriended them during his tour around Europe after he married Mary Godwin, his second wife, 63 later became famous as Mary Shelley, the author of the novel Frankenstein.
About a month before his 30th birthday, Shelley went to Leghorn 64 (welcome) his friend Leigh Hunt. During the stormy return voyage, his small boat sank and he drowned. It was his body 65 wasn’t washed ashore until days later.
widely 57. figures 58. was admitted 59. dating 60. a 61. However 62. religious 63. who 64. to welcome 65. that
Eton College是伊顿公学,是大学,“被大学录取”为固定短语be admitted to,主语Shelley是单数,由at the age of 12可知,时态用一般过去时,因此空格处为一般过去时的被动语态was admitted。故填was admitted。
句中谓语为received early education at home and later and 58 (admit) to Eton College at the age of 12,空格处用非谓语形式,date的逻辑主语Eton College与date之间为主谓关系,因此空格处用现在分词表主动,作后置定语, 故填dating。
根据前面的the most famous poems和was very unpopular可知,前后两句为转折关系,因此空格处用表示转折的连词however,位于句首,首字母大写,故填However。
Shelley went to Leghorn 64 (welcome) his friend Leigh Hunt可知,空格处用不定式表目的,故填to welcome。
根据It was和句意可知,句子为强调句,其结构为it is/was+被强调的部分+who/that+其他部分,句中被强调的部分his body,是物,因此空格处用that,故填that。

____________________________________________________________________________________________
A Greener, Smarter, More Connected Future
With the rapid development of technology, our future life will be greener, smarter and more connected in amazing ways.
For the living environment, renewable energy will become common. Every house may have solar roofs which can turn sunlight into electricity, and intelligent waste-sorting systems will help reduce pollution. Our cities will be cleaner and fresher.
When it comes to work, remote work will be easier than ever. We can have meetings with colleagues from all over the world through 3D video calls, and AI-assisted tools will handle boring, repetitive tasks for us. This lets us focus on more creative work.
As for leisure time, VR technology will bring new fun. We can“travel”to ancient cities or deep oceans at home, and even do DIY activities together with friends online, even if we’re in different cities.
Such a future won’t just be convenient—it’ll make our lives more colorful and meaningful.

One morning, my family and I woke up and went to eat breakfast—until we heard barking and scratching at the door. When my mom opened the door, we saw a puppy(小狗). We looked around to see if there was its owner, but there was no one. We took it inside and fed it.
Although I wanted to keep the puppy, we decided to look for the owner. We looked all day, but we failed. We planned to look for its owner the next day.
The next day my family and I looked for the dog's owner. It was so hard to find its owner. We were looking for flyers(传单) that involved the puppy, but no luck. We wouldn’t have given up because it’s a puppy and it needs its owner.
“We won’t stop looking for its owner, ” my mom and dad said to me. “And we are going to take care of the puppy until we find its owner. ”
Then we went to a pet shop to buy the puppy some dog food. After that we went back home to feed the puppy the dog food that we had just bought. It was so dirty that the fur was black and sticky. So we gave it a nice bath. After we gave it a bath, it turned pure white. And I noticed there was a collar(狗项圈) on him, which said “Coby”. We decided to look for the puppy's owner immediately. My mom stayed at home, and it was only my dad and me this time.
We continued looking for more information until we found a flyer about it. We looked at it and it said, “Lost Dog: Please Help If Found.” Then we looked at the picture; it looked exactly like Coby. We were all happy we found a flyer that was for Coby.

________________________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________
There was a phone number on the flyer. Dad pulled out his mobile phone and called it immediately. My heart beat a little faster as we waited. After three beeps, a worried-sounding lady answered. “Hello Have you seen my Coby ” she asked anxiously. Dad told her we’d found the white puppy with the “Coby” collar and how we’d bathed and fed him. The lady laughed through tears, saying she’d looked everywhere for two days. She gave us her address, and we promised to take Coby to her right away. I held Coby gently, and he nuzzled my hand like he knew we were helping him.
We found the lady’s house, and then we knocked on the door. It opened in seconds, and a lady with messy hair and red eyes stood there. When she saw Coby in my arms, she covered her mouth and rushed over. Coby yelped happily and jumped into her arms, licking her cheeks. “My baby! I thought I’d lost you forever!” she cried, hugging him tightly. She thanked us many times and even offered us cookies, but we said no. As we walked back home, I felt warm inside. Even though I’d wanted to keep Coby, seeing him with his owner was the best feeling ever.

The urban fruit flies that fly around the apples on your counter have to navigate (导航) a rich visual environment to find that food.

“Digital switching” is a term referring to the modern habit of swiping (刷) through and fast-forwarding online videos.

And I noticed there was a collar (狗项圈) on him, which said “Coby”.
