A
Four Best Road Trips in New Zealand
Driving is the best way of getting around New Zealand, not only due to limited public transport options, but also because the scenery is just so beautiful.
Coromandel Peninsula Loop(环线)
The Coromandel Peninsula extends east of Auckland into the Hauraki Gulf, and is easy to reach from the city. As the center of the peninsula is covered in forest, we suggest doing a loop around it to avoid back-tracking. To get here, start in Thames (about an hour and a half drive from Auckland) and drive north to Coronandel town. Head east to Whitianga and then down to Whangamata.
The Desert Road
The 39-mile Desert Road in central North Island cuts through Rangipo Desert. Along the west of Kaimanawa Range and the east of three active volcanoes (Mount Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu), great mountain views can be enjoyed along the straight road.
Forgotten World Highway
Connecting Taumarunui in the King Country to Stratford in Taranaki, the 92-mile Forgotten World Highway winds through some of the North Island’s most dramatic bush and hill country. At the Taumarunui end, the landscape is characterized by the grass-covered hills common throughout the King Country; meanwhile, in Taranaki, wonderful views of Mount Taranaki volcano can be enjoyed.
Pacific Coast Highway
The Pacific Coast Highway, which connects Opotiki in the north to Gisborne in the south, is not the most direct way between the two towns, but it is the most scenic. The sunrises here are particularly good, as this part of the country is the first to see the light of each new day. Because the Pacific Coast Highway is more than 200 miles long, we recommend stopping somewhere overnight along the way; do book . ahead, especially during the busy tourist season, as choices are limited.
21. How long does it take to drive from Auckland to Thames
A. Around 2.5 hours. B. Around 1.5 hours.
C. Around 3 hours. D. Around 9 hours.
22. What can you see along Forgotten World Highway
A. Mount Ruapehu. B. Mount Tongariro. C. Mount Ngauruhoe. D. Mount Taranaki.
23. Which of the following connects Opotiki to Gisborne
A. Pacific Coast Highway. B. The Desert Road.
C. Coromandel Peninsula Loop. D. Forgotten World Highway.
B 22. D 23. A
根据Coromandel Peninsula Loop部分“To get here, start in Thames (about an hour and a half drive from Auckland) and drive north to Coronandel town.(要到达这里,可以从泰晤士河出发(距离奥克兰大约一个半小时的车程),然后向北开车到科罗曼德尔镇。)”
根据Forgotten World Highway部分“meanwhile, in Taranaki, wonderful views of Mount Taranaki volcano can be enjoyed.(同时,在塔拉纳基地区,你可以欣赏到塔拉纳基火山的壮丽景色。)”
根据Pacific Coast Highway部分“The Pacific Coast Highway, which connects Opotiki in the north to Gisborne in the south(连接北部的奥波蒂基和南部的吉斯本的太平洋海岸公路)”可知,连接奥波蒂基和吉斯伯恩的是太平洋海岸公路。故选A。
B
One of my earliest memories is of my father sitting me down at our kitchen table with canvases, paints, and brushes. He taught me how to blend colors and use different materials. Whenever we felt inspired, we set out all our materials and painted what our hearts desired.
My father grew up in a small village in the Dominican Republic. Despite not having many materials available, he created art with whatever he had. My father saved his money to buy paints and colored pencils to draw on the walls around his home. When he was 15, he arrived in America alone and stayed with his aunt in Florida for a while before finishing high school in New York with another aunt. He studied very hard. Eventually, my father was able to obtain his citizenship.
As I got older, he continued to give me lessons, teaching me different brush strokes and how to take care of my art supplies. He taught me to find beauty in everything and everyone around me. I grew to love drawing people, as I could highlight the physical features that make everyone unique and beautiful.
It wasn’t until I began looking carefully into my father’s paintings and the work of popular artists on Instagram that I started to be more critical of my work. I started to worry that I could never live up to my father’s talent. My simple, two-dimensional (2D) drawings fell flat compared to his realistic landscapes. Going through my sketchbooks and portfolios, I found fault in all my drawings. Art was my favorite thing in the world but I started to believe I wasn’t good at it. Instead of working toward improving, I decided to give up drawing.
My father noticed that I had been drawing and painting less and told me, “Mia, you should audition for the school. I wish I’d had an opportunity to study art like this when I was a kid.” My father’s bravery and strength are things that I desire to have. So over the next few months, I worked on my portfolio. Looking back at my pictures, I can see how much I have improved since then. The school must have seen potential in my drawings because I got in! It was eye-opening to attend a college that specializes in the arts. I learned to embrace my individuality and my talent. I have become more open about sharing my artworks and receiving constructive criticism, which raises my self-belief in my art.
24. Why does the author introduce her father’s experience in paragraph 2
A. To show that art can help overcome poverty.
B. To highlight the differences between her life and her father’s challenges.
C.To blame the shortage of educational opportunities in countryside areas.
D. To explain the origin of her father’s impact on her.
25. What do the underlined words “fell flat” in paragraph 4 mean
A. Did better than other works. B. Was short of visual attraction.
C. Had complex structures. D. Appeared very realistic.
26. What kind of person is the author’s father
A. Courageous and unconcerned. B. Ambitious but dependent.
C. Hardworking and supportive. D. Creative but stubborn.
27. What can we learn from the last paragraph
A. Talent ensures entry into art programs.
B.Progress can be gained by trying and making mistakes.
C. Art lies in obeying set rules.
D. Confidence arises from admitting imperfection.
D 25. B 26. C 27. D
根据第二段“My father grew up in a small village in the Dominican Republic. Eventually, my father was able to obtain his citizenship.(我的父亲在多米尼加共和国的一个小村庄长大。
根据下文“compared to his realistic landscapes(与他的现实主义风景画相比)”及“Going through my sketchbooks and portfolios, I found fault in all my drawings. Art was my favorite thing in the world but I started to believe I wasn’t good at it.(翻阅我的素描本和作品集,我发现我所有的画都有问题。艺术是我在这个世界上最喜欢的东西,但我开始相信我不擅长它。)”可推测出,作者认为自己的素描和作品不如父亲的风景画,并开始怀疑自己的能力,即,作者认为自己的画缺乏视觉吸引力,所以“fell flat”的意思是“缺乏视觉吸引力”。故选B。
26. 推理判断题。根据第二段“He studied very hard. Eventually, my father was able to obtain his citizenship.(他学习非常努力。最终,我的父亲获得了公民身份。)”可知,作者的父亲勤奋;根据最后一段“My father noticed that I had been drawing and painting less and told me, “Mia, you should audition for the school. I wish I’d had an opportunity to study art like this when I was a kid”.(我父亲注意到我画画越来越少,就对我说:“米娅,你应该去参加学校的试镜。我真希望我小时候能有机会这样学习艺术。”)”可知,作者的父亲支持作者追求自己的艺术梦想。由此可知,作者的父亲是一个勤奋且支持作者的人。故选C。
27. 推理判断题。根据最后一段“I learned to embrace my individuality and my talent. I have become more open about sharing my artworks and receiving constructive criticism, which raises my self-belief in my art.(我学会了接受自己的独特性和才能。我变得更加开放,愿意分享我的作品并接受建设性的批评,这增强了我对自己艺术的信心。)”可知,作者从自己的经历中学到了自信来自于接受自己的不完美,并勇于展示和分享自己的作品,同时接受他人的反馈。故选D。
C
Every two weeks, a language is at risk of disappearing. To help stop the tide, a project is exploring the use of virtual reality (VR) technology and immersive(沉浸式的)storytelling to try to restore endangered indigenous cultures and languages.
Created by NowHere Media before the start of our project, Kusunda is an immersive interactive film that encourages viewers to learn key words of the Kusunda language, which is under threat of disappearing in Nepal. The film documents the nomadic way of life of the Kusunda people. It features their language, in the form of interviews with its last remaining speakers. NowHere Media worked closely with Lil Bahadur, just one of 150 Kusunda speakers left in the world, and his granddaughter Hima. Lil almost lost his mother tongue when he gave up one of his indigenous culture — the hunter-gatherer lifestyle— to live in the city at the age of 18.
But researchers discovered that Lil’s teenage granddaughter was ardent about keeping her grandfather’s language and culture alive. “If the Kusunda language disappears, then the existence of the Kusunda people in Nepal will also fade away,” Hima said. “We’ll lose our identity. That’s why I want to save our language.”
As to immersive technology, StoryLab received a grant from the British Academy to evaluate its potential for bringing endangered languages back to life. Our research study, Reviving Kusunda, compared the interactive VR experience alongside a short film created during the project. We threw light on the role of immersive technologies in creating emotional understanding of the subject in comparison to regular film.
Participants in our research — both members of the Kusunda community in Nepal and the public in the UK — identified many benefits of using multiple formats. However, they expressed a clear preference for VR. They highlighted the importance of interactivity and immersion in engaging viewers in the subject matter. With the VR experience, viewers are part of the story — a key aspect that helps revive stories and memories from the past.
28. What can be inferred about Kusunda from paragraph 2
A. It is a tool for printing short stories.
B. It is a movie to explain a group’s industries.
C. It is a way to save an endangered language.
D. It is an app to advertise a kind of film.
29. What happened to Lily when he was aged 18
A. He had to quit school. B. He promoted his native language.
C. He earned a lot of money in a city. D. He broke away from part of his tradition.
30. What does the underlined word “ardent” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Sensitive. B. Surprised. C. Knowledgeable. D. Passionate.
31. Why are the public in the UK mentioned
A. To indicate they supported the project.
B. To say they liked hearing faraway stories.
C. To show they were enthusiastic about advanced technology.
D. To praise them for saving many endangered customs.
C 29. D 30. D 31. A
根据第二段“Kusunda is an immersive interactive film that encourages viewers to learn key words of the Kusunda language, which is under threat of disappearing in Nepal.(《库孙达》是一部沉浸式互动电影,鼓励观众学习库孙达语的关键词,这种语言在尼泊尔面临消失的威胁)” 可知,这部电影旨在帮助人们学习濒危的库孙达语,是拯救濒危语言的一种方式。
根据第二段“Lil almost lost his mother tongue when he gave up one of his indigenous culture — the hunter-gatherer lifestyle — to live in the city at the age of 18.(18 岁时,利尔放弃了他的一种本土文化 —— 狩猎采集生活方式,搬到城市生活,几乎因此失去了他的母语)” 可知,利尔 18 岁时脱离了部分传统生活方式。故选D。
根据第三段“If the Kusunda language disappears, then the existence of the Kusunda people in Nepal will also fade away, ” Hima said. “We’ll lose our identity. That’s why I want to save our language. ”(“如果库孙达语消失,那么尼泊尔库孙达族的存在也将逐渐消失”希玛说。“我们将失去我们的身份。这就是为什么我想拯救我们的语言。”)” 可知,希玛非常想拯救自己民族的语言,对保留祖父的语言和文化充满热情。由此猜测,划线词为“热情的”。故选D。
31. 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Participants in our research — both members of the Kusunda community in Nepal and the public in the UK — identified many benefits of using multiple formats. However, they expressed a clear preference for VR.(我们研究的参与者 —— 尼泊尔库孙达社区成员和英国公众 —— 都认识到使用多种形式的诸多好处。然而,他们明确表示更喜欢虚拟现实技术)” 可知,提到英国公众是为了表明他们认可该项目中使用的沉浸式技术,对项目持支持态度。故选A。
D
There is a trend in travel that has picked up steam over the last few years. That trend is called ecotourism. As environmental welfare and sustainability have become more important to people over the last decade, travel companies around the world are the biggest winners. They cash in on people’s willingness to spend lots of money in the name of environmental protection by operating eco-tours.
But how many companies really live up to that The Marriott or other resorts might talk about their commitments to reducing waste by using recycled toilet paper and low flow shower heads, but they have huge hotels. The nature of their hotels means they will never be truly environmentally friendly, unless they rebuild the place. And most of their customers wouldn’t put up with higher prices to help balance the capital cost of upgrading to be eco-friendly. And if you look at the most environmentally friendly hotels and tours, they are also the most expensive.
Companies stress how they are going green to save the environment, but they only make increasing changes designed to make us feel good. Few companies make the capital investment to truly change their business model, especially those in the tourism industry. It’s easier to change toilet paper than to change how you design your future hotels.
Eco-tours market themselves as a low effect, environmental, and community friendly way to see the world. Tourists come, learn a bit about the local culture, and then leave, satisfied with the knowledge that they“ helped” the environment. But the reality is that big companies bring you in, make you feel good about yourself, and take all the profit back home.
I see promise and hope in sustainable tourism. Ecotourism to me is about not damaging the environment and providing a little education, and sustainable tourism is about living and growing with the environment and the local cultures. I believe the ecotourism trend is here to stay and that is for sure a good thing. However, if we want it to have a greater effect, there needs to be a focus not only on“ using less toilet paper” but also on sustainable, local measures that help businesses grow and protect the environment.
32. Which of the following can replace the underlined phrase “cash in on” in paragraph 1
A. get benefits from B. play a trick on
C. give in to D. look down upon
33. What is the main idea of the second paragraph
A. Some hotels make profits from ecotourism.
B. Some companies don’t live up to the title of ecotourism.
C. Many companies’ attempts to cut down waste are valuable.
D. Eco-friendly companies are popular worldwide.
34. What is the author’s attitude towards the present situation of ecotourism
A. Supportive. B. Indifferent. C. Curious. D. Critical.
35. What is the author’s opinion on ecotourism
A. It should concentrate on promoting local cultures.
B. It should provide economic advantages for local people.
C. It should be developed through adopting actual sustainable methods.
D. It should seek temporary support from the local government
A 33. B 34. D 35. C
根据文章第一段划线词前一句“As environmental welfare and sustainability have become more important to people over the last decade, travel companies around the world are the biggest winners.(随着环境福利和可持续性在过去十年对人们变得越来越重要,世界各地的旅游公司是最大的赢家)”及划线词后“people’s willingness to spend lots of money in the name of environmental protection by operating eco-tours.(人们愿意以环保的名义花费大量资金的意愿)”可知,旅游公司利用人们的环保消费意愿获利,cash in on意思是“从……获得好处”,A项与划线词意义相近。故选A。
根据文章第二段“But how many companies really live up to that The Marriott or other resorts might talk about their commitments to reducing waste by using recycled toilet paper and low flow shower heads, but they have huge hotels. The nature of their hotels means they will never be truly environmentally friendly, unless they rebuild the place. And most of their customers wouldn’t put up with higher prices to help balance the capital cost of upgrading to be eco-friendly. And if you look at the most environmentally friendly hotels and tours, they are also the most expensive.(但有多少公司真正做到了这一点?
根据文章第三段“Companies stress how they are going green to save the environment, but they only make increasing changes designed to make us feel good. Few companies make the capital investment to truly change their business model, especially those in the tourism industry. It’s easier to change toilet paper than to change how you design your future hotels.(公司强调他们如何致力于绿色环保以拯救环境,但所做的往往只是那些旨在让我们感觉良好的渐进式改变。很少有公司真正进行资本投资来彻底改变其商业模式,尤其是在旅游业。更换卫生纸比重新设计未来的酒店要容易得多)”及第四段“But the reality is that big companies bring you in, make you feel good about yourself, and take all the profit back home.(但现实是,大公司把你带进来,让你对自己感觉良好,然后把所有的利润都带回家)”可知,作者认为很多生态旅游都是浮于表面,故作者对现在所谓的生态旅游持批判的态度。故选D。
根据文章最后一段“I see promise and hope in sustainable tourism. Ecotourism to me is about not damaging the environment and providing a little education, and sustainable tourism is about living and growing with the environment and the local cultures. I believe the ecotourism trend is here to stay and that is for sure a good thing. However, if we want it to have a greater effect, there needs to be a focus not only on“ using less toilet paper” but also on sustainable, local measures that help businesses grow and protect the environment.(我在可持续旅游业中看到了迹象和希望。对我来说,生态旅游就是不破坏环境,提供一点教育,而可持续旅游就是与环境和当地文化一起生活和成长,我相信生态旅游的趋势会持续下去,这肯定是一件好事。但是,如果我们想要想产生更大的效果,不仅需要关注“少用卫生纸”,还需要关注有助于企业发展和保护环境的可持续的地方措施行动)”可知,作者希望能采取真正可持续发展的措施以促进当前的生态旅游。故选C。

Mark Twain said, “Humor is the great thing, the saving thing. The minute it crops up, all our irritations slip away, and a sunny spirit takes their place.” He’s certainly not wrong. Humor may very well be the great thing. 36
Having a good sense of humor is possibly one of the best things you can do for your physical fitness. 37 Besides, it can improve your cardiovascular(心血管的)health.
38 Study has shown that individuals who score highly in humor have higher self-respect, greater self-competence, and perform better in social interaction. They tend to get along well with others and are more often associated with better overall health.

The benefits of humor are so great that universities like Stanford are offering business courses on humor in the workplace. 40 Students will be taught how to “better achieve business goals and develop stronger bonds”. It doesn’t stop there, though. Researchers believe humor has the power to actually “make change in the world”.

根据空格前的known可知,此处用介词for构成固定短语be known for表示“因……而闻名”故填for。
60. 考查定语从句。句意:同上。分析句式结构可知,此处是定语从句,先行词experiences是物,且从句中缺少主语,所以用关系代词that或which来引导。故填that/which。
故填a。
故填to show。

A Stray Cat on Campus: Caution passion
Recently, a stray cat on campus has sparked a heated debate. ______________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________
A Stray Cat on Campus: Caution passion
Recently, a stray cat on campus has sparked a heated debate. Some think it should be driven out, as it often walks into classrooms freely, which disturbs class order and even brings the risk of scratching students. However, others hold the opposite view. They believe all living things have souls, so out of humanity, we should give the cat a place to live.
In my opinion, we can find a balance. Instead of expelling it, we can set a special area for the cat away from classrooms. Also, volunteers can check its health regularly. In this way, we can not only express our care for the stray cat but also ensure the safety of the campus, achieving a perfect balance between compassion and caution.
驱逐:drive out

No More White Walls
A small bell rang to announce my presence as I pushed open the shop door. There went my hope of entering unnoticed. A salesman hurried to meet me with a broad smile. “How can I help you today ”
I resisted the urge to make a quick exit and forced myself to greet him instead. “I’d like to see some paint samples.”
Our home was more than ten years old and way overdue for a fresh coat of paint. The past ten years had been good to us, too, as we developed special friendships. It was because of those friends that I found myself in the paint store.
It started innocently enough with visits to each of their homes. Then I invited them to ours. Two friends, Jan and Linda, admired our home, but were curious about one thing. I steeled myself for what I knew was coming. Jan was the first to ask. “Beautiful… but, um, can I ask why all the walls are white ”
It was a natural question. Their homes included color-themed rooms and accent walls. Every room showed their confident decorating abilities. On the other hand, every wall in our home was only white.
How could I explain my reasons for all white walls It’s not because I don’t enjoy color. I had admired their homes. I’m a fan of home makeover shows. I read Better Homes and Gardens. I learned to differentiate between “warm” and “cool” colors. And still my walls were all… white. When it came to actually selecting colors, I became paralyzed with indecision.
What if it doesn’t look good when I’m finished Of course, I know I can repaint, but I barely have enough time to paint it once, let alone redo it. So in looking back at more than thirty years of marriage and four different homes, every wall in every home has remained a boring shade of white.
Not anymore. I was ready for a change. I needed a change.
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

Come this way, please.” The salesman interrupted my thoughts. I pulled myself back from my mind, smiled at the salesman and followed him to the shelf with paint samples. When he asked about my favorite colors, I thought of my friends’ colorful homes. With their encouragement in my heart, I picked two samples: a soft light green (it stands for vitality) and a gentle light pink (it means warmth). The salesman looked at the samples and nodded, saying, “These are wonderful choices, they’ll make your home feel cozy.” I felt more confident about my decision then.
Back home, we set to work transforming our living space. My family and I held rollers and brushes, and we laughed as we painted the walls. Soon, the once-white living room turned light green, and the bedroom became light pink. When our friends visited later, they were surprised and praised, “Your home is so warm now!” Looking at the colorful walls, I realized that changing from white wasn’t scary at all—it’s a way to embrace life more actively.

C. The Desert Road. D. Forgotten World Highway.

26. What kind of person is the author’s father
A. Courageous and unconcerned. B. Ambitious but dependent.
C. Hardworking and supportive. D. Creative but stubborn.

B.Progress can be gained by trying and making mistakes.
C. Art lies in obeying set rules.
D. Confidence arises from admitting imperfection.

Humor: An Essential Life Skill

A. Students will be strictly assessed.
B. These courses have specific goals.

D. It covers almost every part of life.
E. Besides that, humor also enhances your overall life quality.
F. Studies have proved that laughter can reduce the muscle tension.
