Asking the Fox for Its Fur
In ancient times, there was a man who longed for a precious fur robe. He daydreamed about wearing a fox-fur coat worth a thousand gold pieces all day long, and just thinking about it made him happy. At the same time, he also wanted to eat delicious food—he daydreamed about it too, and just imagining the taste made saliva drip from his mouth.
However, reality was always cruel. Days passed by, but none of his dreams came true. He felt empty and lost. What could he do
One day, he couldn’t hold back anymore. He went to talk to the foxes. He said to them: “Brother Foxes, please help me! Let me peel off your fur—I really want to make my dream coat with it. Please, help me!” Before he even finished speaking, the foxes had already run away without a trace. They told each other about this, and soon all the foxes were so scared that they hid in the mountains and never appeared again.
Seeing that he couldn’t get fox fur, he went to talk to the goats instead. He said to them: “Little Brother Goats, please help me! Let me eat your meat—I’ve been dreaming of tasting your tender mutton for so long. Please, have pity on me!” As soon as the goats heard this, they called out to each other, all hiding in fear and never showing up again.
So, even though the man kept planning, ten years passed and he still hadn’t made his dream fox-fur coat or eaten a single bite of tender goat meat. It wasn’t because he didn’t try—it was because his way of trying to get these things was too stupid.
Moral
Asking foxes for their fur and goats for their meat is stupid and doomed to fail. When doing things, we should have the right methods and ways. If we use wrong methods, we will never be able to achieve our desired goals.

One day, he couldn’t hold back anymore and went to ask foxes for their fur[4]. Before he finished speaking, the foxes ran away without a trace[5]. Seeing he got no fur, he went to ask goats for their meat instead[6]. But the goats hid in fear as soon as they heard this[7].
Ten years passed, and he still hadn’t achieved his goals[8]. It wasn’t because he didn’t try—it was because his way was stupid and doomed to fail[9]. This tells us: When doing things, we must have right methods, or we’ll never achieve desired goals[10].
