Every weekday, I wake up at 6:30 a.m. and walk to the bus stop with my neighbor Mia by 7:15 a.m. The 15-minute bus ride flies by—we always chat about our favorite classes.
We arrive at school around 7:30 a.m. First, I go to the dining hall for breakfast. My go-to choice is warm porridge or a soft steamed bun. After eating, I head to the classroom to organize my books: math, English, and science (my favorite!). I have 10 minutes before class starts, so I sometimes help my deskmate tidy her desk too.
Class begins at 8:00 a.m. The first class is usually Chinese, where we read short stories. But the best part of the morning is science class. Last week, we went to the lab to do an experiment: we put food coloring in water and put a flower stem in it. By the end of class, the petals turned pink! It was so interesting that I told my family about it at dinner.
At 11:30 a.m., the lunch bell rings. My classmates and I walk to the dining hall together. We sit at the same table and share food—Lily gives me her tomatoes, and I give her my carrots. After lunch, we go to the sports field to walk or play catch for 20 minutes. The warm sun and laughter make this my favorite part of the morning, besides science.
By 12:30 p.m., we go back for afternoon lessons. Even though the morning is busy, I always feel happy at school—there’s always something fun to learn!
21. What time does the writer usually get to school
A. At 6:30 a.m. B. At 7:15 a.m. C. At 7:30 a.m. D. At 8:00 a.m.
22. What does the writer often eat for breakfast at school
A. Porridge or steamed buns. B. Bread and milk. C. Tomatoes and carrots. D. Rice and meat.
23. Why does the writer like science class
A. Because the teacher is funny. B. Because they do interesting experiments.
C. Because it’s the first class of the day. D. Because they can chat with classmates.
24. What do the writer and classmates do after lunch
A. They go back to the classroom at once. B. They play on the sports field.
C. They help clean the dining hall. D. They read books in the library.

Do you want to grow a plant that can grow as tall as you Try growing a sunflower! It’s easy and fun, and you can do it at home with just a few things.
First, you need to get ready: a small pot, some soil, a sunflower seed, and a place with lots of sunlight. Fill the pot with soft soil, then make a small hole (about 2 centimeters deep) in the middle. Put the seed in the hole and cover it with a little soil. Water the soil gently—don’t pour too much water, or the seed might rot.
Next, put the pot near a window where it can get 6 to 8 hours of sunlight every day. Sunflowers love the sun, and they will even turn their heads to follow the sun as it moves! Every 2 to 3 days, check the soil. If it feels dry, water it a little. After about 7 to 10 days, you will see a small green shoot (芽) come out of the soil. That means your sunflower is growing!
As the shoot grows, it will get taller and grow leaves. When it is about 20 centimeters tall, you can move it to a bigger pot or even plant it in your garden (if you have one). Keep watering it and giving it sunlight. After 2 to 3 months, your sunflower will grow big yellow flowers. You can even collect the seeds from the flowers later to grow more sunflowers!
Growing a sunflower is a great way to learn about plants. You can watch it change every day—and it’s so exciting to see it grow tall!
25. What do you NOT need to grow a sunflower at home
A. A small pot. B. Some soil. C. A sunflower seed. D. A big garden.
26. How deep should the hole for the sunflower seed be
A. About 1 centimeter. B. About 2 centimeters.
C. About 5 centimeters. D. About 10 centimeters.
27. How often should you water the sunflower at first
A. Every day. B. Every 2 to 3 days.
C. Every week. D. Every 10 days.
28. When can you move the sunflower to a bigger pot
A. When the seed is put in the soil. B. When the green shoot comes out.
C. When it is about 20 centimeters tall. D. When it grows big yellow flowers.

Last month, my class visited Green Hill Middle School to learn about their campus. We arrived at 9:00 a.m., and a student named Leo met us at the gate to be our guide.
First, Leo took us to the dining hall. “We have three meals here daily,” he said. “Today’s lunch is rice, fish and vegetables.” We also saw a notice board on the wall with the week’s menu—so students know what to eat each day.
Next, we went to the lab building. There are 10 science labs with new tools. “We have one science class here every week,” Leo told us. While we were there, some students were testing how water boils—just like our lab classes!
Then we walked to the sports field. It’s bigger than ours, with a football pitch, a basketball court and a small gym nearby. “We have PE here twice a week,” Leo said. We even saw students practicing football and waving to us.
Our last stop was the school library. It’s on the main building’s second floor—bright and quiet. “You can borrow up to 4 books at a time and keep them for two weeks,” Leo explained. There were many storybooks and science magazines, just like our library.
We left at 12:00 p.m. It was a great trip—I learned that different schools have similar important places, and I told my parents all about it!

A. A teacher. B. A student named Leo. C. The headmaster. D. The librarian.
30. What did the writer see on the dining hall’s wall
A. School rules. B. The week’s menu. C. Student photos. D. Science posters.
31. How often do students at Green Hill Middle School have PE on the sports field

六、任务型阅读(共3小题,每小题2分,满分6分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容完成下列任务。
Have you ever wondered how a tall tree gets water from its roots to its leaves It’s not like we pour water directly into the leaves—plants have a clever “drinking system”!
First, let’s look at the roots. A plant’s roots have tiny hair-like parts called “root hairs”. These root hairs grow into the soil and soak up water, just like a sponge soaks up water. The water then moves up through small tubes inside the plant’s stem. These tubes are like tiny pipes that carry water all the way to the leaves.
But how does the water “climb” up the stem, even for tall trees It’s because of two things: evaporation (蒸发) and cohesion (内聚力). When the sun shines on the leaves, some water in the leaves turns into vapor and flies into the air—that’s evaporation. This creates a “pull” that tugs the water up from the roots. At the same time, water molecules (分子) stick to each other (that’s cohesion), so when one molecule moves up, it pulls the next one with it. Together, these two forces help water travel up the plant.
This “drinking” process is very important for plants. Water carries nutrients (营养) from the soil to all parts of the plant, and it also helps the plant stay cool, just like how we sweat to stay cool! Next time you water a plant, you’ll know exactly where the water goes!
