The first time I visited my husband's family in England, one of his little cousins asked,"What's for pudding (布丁) " after lunch. As an American, I was surprised. I had never met a family who loved that thick and sticky stuff so much. But when cookies were produced instead, I understood that in Britain, pudding simply means "dessert"
The first puddings were not eaten for dessert, however. They were more like sausages(香肠): made from small pieces of meat, grain(谷物),dried fruits, spices, and salt, and stuffed into a casing. The word pudding in fact comes from boudin, a French word for a type of sausage. This combination of meat, grain, and fruit, strange to modern American, was a handy and economical way to preserve(保存) meat. The fruit sugars, salt, and spices slowed the speed of meat going bad; the traditional method of preparation-boiling, for as long as eight hours in some cases—probably helped too.
Puddings were practical, and they were beloved by the British. French scientist Samuel Sorbière, who spent a year in England in 1663, reported with amazement that “The English very much delight in pudding. They think themselves so happy when they have a Pudding before them.”
In the 17th century, a creative cook wrapped and cooked a pudding in cloth, making it seem less like a sausage. Sugar and dried fruit became less expensive, and other ways of keeping meat were developed, further freeing the pudding to become a dessert rather than part of the main meal. By the beginning of the 20th century, pudding referred to a cold, sweet concoction(调和物) in the United States, while it had come to stand in for all desserts in the United Kingdom.
Every festival, my British families will be eating pudding, which has been a part holiday dinners. That's a great treat for taste and they won't miss it.
( )23.What do modern Americans think of the first puddings
A. Strange. B. Acceptable. C. Wonderful. D. Awful.

B. The Creative Flavor of Puddings

Have you ever wondered why people think and act differently Some enjoy lively parties, while others prefer quiet reading. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a famous model that helps us understand these differences. It sorts personalities into 16 types based on four key pairs of preferences. Although it is not a scientific test, it offers a fascinating way to think about human behavior.
The first pair is Extraversion (E) and Introversion (I). This is about where you get your energy(能量). Extraverts feel energized by spending time with the outside world and other people. Introverts, on the other hand, relax by spending time alone and quietly in their inner world. This is not about being shy or social, but about the source of energy.
The second pair is Sensing (S) and Intuition (N). This concerns how you take in information. Sensing(S) types trust concrete facts and details, practical experiences from the present reality. They focus on what they can see, hear, and touch. Intuitive(N) types are more interested in patterns, possibilities, and future meanings behind the information.
The last two pairs deal with decision-making and lifestyle. Thinking (T)types make choices based on logic(逻辑), cause and effect, and objective analysis. Feeling (F) types make decisions by considering personal values, harmony, and the impact on people involved. Finally, Judging (J) types prefer a planned, organized, and decisive life, while Perceiving (P) types like to be more flexible(灵活的), spontaneous, and open to new information.
Understanding the MBTI can be a useful tool for self-awareness and improving relationships. It reminds us that differences are natural. However, it is important to remember that the MBTI describes preferences, not skills or limits. Every person is unique and more complex than any type code can fully capture.
( )27. According to the passage, what is a key characteristic of an Feeling (F) type
A. They make decisions based on personal values.
B. They focus on concrete facts and details.
C. They are interested in future possibilities and ideas.
D. They get energy from being with people.
( )28. If Tom pays attention to "future possibilities" when taking in information and has a careful plan when he enjoys climbing in his free time, which type would he likely be
A. ISFJ B. ENFJ C. ESTP D. INTJ
( )29. What is the main warning given about the MBTI in the last paragraph
A. It is too expensive to use, and it’s useless for everyone.
B. It is only useful for psychologists to understand MBTI
C. It describes preferences but cannot fully define a complex person.
D. It shouldn’t be used because everyone is different from others.
( )30. Which of the following best describes the organization of this passage
A. It presents a problem of MBTI and then its solution.
B. It presents an introduction of MBTI and explains it.
C. It compares two different theories of personalities..
D. It tells a report about the creation of the MBTI.
第二节 任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题 2分,满分10分)

The traditional Chinese solar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. Cold Dew (寒露), the 17th solar term of the year, falls on Oct 8th this year. At this time, temperatures are much lower than during White Dew in most areas of China. The dew is greater and colder and there will be less rain. Autumn crops will be ripe.
Here are four things you should know about Cold Dew.
31
Temperatures drop a lot in October. When the cold air meets autumn rain, The plenty of water vapor in the air quickly gets to the point where it can't hold more, and then it turns into misty rain or fog. When the humidity (湿度) is high, there will be foggy regions formed in many areas of China.
32
People always say that fishing in shallow water in autumn makes sense. That's because during the Cold Dew period, temperatures decrease quickly and sunshine doesn't reach deep water thoroughly. Fish swim to shallow water areas where the water temperature is clearly higher.
33
Chrysanthemum is the iconic flower of Cold Dew. To prevent autumn dryness, many areas in China have the custom of drinking chrysanthemum wine. This is a tradition of the Double Ninth Festival, which often falls around Cold Dew. According to ancient records, drinking wine made with chrysanthemums, poria cocos and other herbs keeps people young for a long time.
34
During Cold Dew, North China takes on a look of late autumn with white clouds, red leaves and early frost. On the day of the Double Ninth Festival, people often climb hills with cornels, a kind of plant. This custom aims to get rid of bad things, and started in the Eastern Han Dynasty
A:A great time for hiking B:Foggy autumn C:Season for fishing D:Season for swimming E:Season for drinking chrysanthemum wine
