Going against the tendency of flooding to well-known yet crowded tourist attractions on vacation, a growing number of holidaymakers in China are spending their holidays at lesser-known places to look for special and relaxing holiday experiences. “Reverse (反向) tourism” has appeared as a new trend among young holidaymakers in China.
During the public holidays, large numbers of vacationers, especially youth who long to escape their busy city lives, avoid popular holiday tourist attractions in order to get off the beaten track and enjoy some peace and quietness.
According to data from online travel agency Qunar, the number of rooms booked at hotels in less-traveled cities during the holiday was up 30 percent year on year. Bookings for four-and five-star hotels in less-traveled places, including Linxia in Gansu province and Shizuishan in Ningxia, all increased at least 10 times from the same period of the past year. Even 12.5 percent of youth who normally have little time for themselves simply had a time in a hotel to make the much-awaited holiday more relaxing.
Besides crowds, some vacationers chose less-traveled places to save on the cost of trips to popular attractions, which often includes expensive tickets, meals and hotel stays. What’s more, lesser-known attractions are able to offer more natural experiences, according to social media posts. And unlike popular attractions, some undeveloped places with little online attention can offer more surprises.
Jiang Han, a senior researcher at the Beijing-based public policy think tank Pangoal, said that reverse tourism will become one of the future directions for the market and is an opportunity for growth which can match the camping economy.
4. Which of the following will you probably choose if you support “reverse tourism”
A. A famous place of interest during holidays. B. A unique and impressive vacation.

5. How does the author develop paragraph 3
A. By giving numbers. B. By listing reasons.
C. By comparing opinions. D. By following time order.
6. What is the main idea of the passage
A. Lesser-known attractions become a hit. B. The future of reverse tourism is uncertain.
C. Popular tourist spots are facing challenges. D. Reverse tourism is money-saving.
C
How much do you love animals Maybe not as much as photographer Joel Sartore. He is traveling the world to take pictures of as many animals as he can find, which allows people to focus on the beauty and uniqueness of each animal.
Sartore is working to take photos of all 20,000 different types of animals living in the world’s zoos, aquariums (水族馆) and wildlife shelters. And he has already taken nearly 15,000! He hopes his photos will remind people of the situation these planet’s most endangered creatures are in, and that he can record them before they’re gone. “My job is to tell their stories and hope that the world cares in time,” he told The Weather Channel in 2023.
Sartore calls his project the Photo Ark, like the story of Noah’s Ark, in which a large boat is built to save every type of animal in the world from a flood. He founded the Photo Ark in 2016 in his hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska.
He doesn’t just take his animal photos in the usual zoo environment, however. He puts each animal on a black or white background with studio lights. This helps him photograph their true colors, and lets people see a little mouse as clearly as a big elephant and look each animal right in the eye. “When people connect to animals through eye contact, we have got a real chance at changing human behavior,” Sartore says.
The project has been well received. Sartore has more than 1.6 million followers online and a best-selling series of Photo Ark books. He asks people to buy his books and photos, give money to the Photo Ark, and support zoos, aquariums and wildlife shelters near where they live.
7. What is the purpose of Sartore’s project
A. To help sell his photos. B. To help save animals in danger.
C. To meet his own interest in animals. D. To offer another way to learn about animals.
8. What can be known about Sartore’s photos of the animals in Paragraph 4
A. They are black and white. B. They are about animals in danger.
C. They are taken in a natural condition. D. They are taken in a designed environment.
9. What is people’s attitude towards Sartore’s project
A. Unclear. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Negative.
10. What would be the best title for the passage
A. The Profile of a Traveling Photographer.
B. The Art of Studio Photography for Animals.
C. Saving Endangered Species: One Photo at a Time.
D. The History of Noah’s Ark and Animal Protection.

Grandma made a sweater for Dad as his birthday gift. It was PURPLE. Not just any purple. Shine-in-the-dark purple! Dad loved it. But I found it embarrassing.
He wore the sweater all the time: when he walked the dog, when he shopped for groceries, when he and Mom went on a date, and—worst of all—when he came to events at my school.
“Do you always have to wear that sweater ” I asked as we drove back from my school’s art show. He laughed. “It’s my favorite sweater, Jake!” “But it’s so ... purple!” I said.
I was glad when warm spring days arrived and he stopped wearing it. But once the weather cooled again, that purple sweater came out of hiding. I advised Dad to try other sweaters because the purple sweater looks like it’s from outer space. “That is half the reason I love it!” he said, smiling.
One day we visited Uncle Bill’s farm. When picking apples, Dad tore his sleeve (袖子) on a tree.
“Well, I guess you can’t wear the sweater anymore.” I said.
“It’s still a great sweater! I’ll just wear it around the house,” Dad said. And he did. Every night. Weekends too. The hole got bigger and bigger. The sleeve hung by threads (毛线).
One night, at dinner, the threads reached his plate of noodles. He turned around the noodles and threads onto his fork and opened his mouth. “Look out, Dad!” I shouted. “You’re about to eat your sweater.” Dad laughed and put his fork down. “It is impossible to save this sweater now,” he said and sighed.
After dinner, Dad was about to throw the sweater away. But he just stood there, looking sad. It made me sad too.

【答案】Suddenly a good idea hit me—using the sweater for the coming art show. “Wait, Dad! May I have the sweater ” I asked. “Why ” Dad asked in surprise. “You’ll see.” I washed, dried, and changed the sweater into a big pile of curly purple thread. I glued some of it onto a paper plate with some old green tennis balls. I tore and cut some color paper into pieces—pink, yellow, and orange—and glue the pieces into a bowl. I shaped a silver fork out of foil, then put everything on a serving tray with a sign: Noodles and Meatballs with Salad.
A few days later, Dad came to the art show when the teacher gave out awards. When I was announced to be a first prize-winner, I was surprised. Dad was surprised too. But having seen what I had made out of his sweater, he seemed to understand everything, with tears clouding his eyes. He wrapped me around his arms, saying gently, “Thank you, honey! It’s the perfect ending for my sweater.” Then we took some photos for memory. Later, I mailed one photo to Grandma with a note attached, telling her the legendary life of this purple sweater and how much Dad cherished it.
