Ten years ago I used to be very fit. I rode a bike to work and I got a lot of exercise at weekends. I used to play tennis a lot and go for long walks. In those days I didn’t earn very much. I had a job in an office. It wasn’t a very good job but I had a lot of time to do the things I enjoyed doing.
Then, about eight years ago, I got a much better job. The pay was better, but the hours were a lot longer. I bought a car and drove to work every day. I began to take people out to lunch. And I began to put on weight, too. I stopped playing tennis and going for long walks at weekends because I just didn’t have any time for things like that any more.
There’s a lot of stress in my job. Perhaps that’s why I started drinking more than I used to. For example, I used to have only half a glass of whisky when I got home, but then I started filling my glass to the top, and instead of having one glass, I would have several. I started smoking a lot, too. I never used to smoke at all.
Two months ago I had a heart attack. At first I just couldn’t believe it. Luckily it wasn’t very serious. The doctor advised me to stop smoking and to eat less. He also advised me to work less and get more exercise. But I just haven’t any time! My job takes everything out of me!
Sometimes I wonder if I should get another job. Perhaps I could do something like I used to do. But if I do that, I won’t earn as much. I have a family to support. I have to think of them, too. I just don’t know what I should do. What do you think

A.not to work any longer B.to take a long vacation abroad
C.to stop smoking and take exercise D.not to eat out any more
27.What can we learn about the author
A.The author is not sure what he should do now.
B.The author has taken the doctor’s advice.
C.The author has got another new job.
D.The author feels much better now.

“I’m going to fail!” My best friend cried. She and I had this conversation almost every day while we were in high school.
The truth was that my friend never failed in any subjects. I just think that she can’t accept failures because she lives her life as a perfectionist (完美主义者). What she fails to understand is that a lot of good can come from failures. For example, failure can help build relationships. Once I was cooking dinner for a friend. I was tired, and several dishes I tried to make turned out bad. I grew more and more upset until my friend told me that I shouldn’t worry. She cared more about our friendship than the dishes. That day, I learned that failure doesn’t always make people dislike you. In fact, after she said those words to me, I grew closer to her.
Failure can make success ever more exciting. Every few years, there would be an important test in the PE class at our school. Students had to run a mile within eight minutes. I was never good at running , so I failed every time until the third year at school. Then I began working out regularly, and yet I still failed that year. A few days later, however, the teacher gave me another chance to run and I got a pass finally! You can’t imagine how excited I was.
I felt the memory of the success was as sweet as honey, because I had to overcome failure to reach it. Now it’s clear to see that failure can teach us good lessons. It’s not an end — it can be a beginning.
28.What can we learn about the author’s best friend from the first two paragraphs
A.She liked taking tests. B.She was afraid of failures.
C.She often failed in study. D.She knew how to be perfect.
29.What did the author finally get from a failed cooking
A.Bad feelings. B.Worries.
C.A closer friendship. D.More experience.
30.Why did the author feel excited after the running test
A.Because she could work out regularly.
B.Because she received honey as a reward.
C.Because she got another chance to take the test.
D.Because she achieved success after many failures.
31.What is the main purpose of the passage
A. To share the writer’s high school stories with her best friend.
B. To explain why the writer’s friend is a perfectionist who fears failure.
C. To show that failure has positive meanings and is not something to fear.
D. To describe how the writer overcame difficulties in her PE class.
D
High school can be challenging for everyone. You are going through an awkward (尴尬的) time and you may either fit in right away or feel like a complete outcast. But no matter how well you may fit in (or not), joining a club will be helpful for you now and in the future.
Joining a club is a great way to meet new friends, especially if you are new at school. Being in a club encourages you to talk to people who share the same interests with you. Even if you are the shyest person, you are sure to make friends with at least one person in the club you choose to join. From my own experience, I have made some of my best friends through after-school activities and have had many new opportunities.
Another good thing about joining a club is that taking part in activities looks great on college applications. Being known as outgoing is an important quality (品质); it shows that you are willing to try new things and be determined. It can also help you build skills that you might need during a college interview.
Many teens fight with staying productive. Most students go to school and then come home to spend the rest of the day in front of the TV or on their phones, but clubs help prevent this. Teens are also easily influenced, and if they join the wrong group, they might get into trouble. Clubs are a wonderful place to spend time with good friends who can support you if you need help.
Perhaps the most important reason to join a club is the long-term benefits (益处) it provides. The classroom is not the only place to learn in a school. Meeting and talking to new people, managing your time, and staying organized are skills you will use every day in your life.
32.What might the underlined word “outcast” in paragraph 1 mean
A person who is popular. B.A person who is not smart.
C.A person who is confident. D.A person who is not accepted.
33.What do colleges think highly of according to the text
A.The number of clubs you have joined.
B.The strong relationships you have built.
C.The bright personality you have developed.
D.The skills you have learned while forming a club.
34.What benefit of joining a club is talked about in paragraph 4
A.Increasing the knowledge. B.Learning team working skills.
C.Improving the fitness level. D.Making good use of the time.
35.What is the best title for the text
A.Why should you join a club B.What club should you join
C.Should you join a second club D.How should you join a club you like
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
Everyone wants to perform well at school. Add these tips to your life and you should be on your way to being a top student!
36 I cannot stress how important it is to pay attention to what your teacher is teaching you. Take part in class discussions if you have something worth adding. Pay attention during class.
Taking notes is important. You don’t need to write down every single word your teacher says but write down what he or she writes on the blackboard, or any special fact you think you might need for a test. 37 In this way, it will help you learn more effectively by thinking about what you are writing.
Don’t skip school. You will be missing courses. 38 However, you will have more work and you have missed lectures. Also, try not to be late for class. It’s most likely that your teacher won’t appreciate it and you will get yourself behind.
Keep a good attitude (态度) towards things. If you have an “ I don’t care about school or this class” attitude, then teachers will be less willing to help you with problems. The same goes for lazy attitude. Have a respectful attitude to the teacher and other students. 39
Always ask questions. 40 If you don’t understand, ask someone. Read your textbook and notes, and then if that fails, ask a teacher, friend, classmate, parent, etc.
A.Be prepared.
B.Write in your own words.
C.Staying organized will be helpful.
D.Pay attention to what the teacher says.
E.It is true that you could make up for the work.
F.There is no shame (羞愧)in needing some help.
G.Try not to laugh when other students make mistakes.
