①Do you have a tie-dyed T-shirt Tie-dyeing is an old art with a history of over 1, 500 years, and it became most popular in the Tang Dynasty.
② Here are the steps of tie-dyeing. First twist a piece of cloth and tie it with thread. Then dye the material and when it is dry, untie it. The tied part stays the same colour as before, but the rest has a different colour.
③ Today, in some parts of Yunnan Province, for example, local people still use traditional methods of tie-dyeing to make different products like scarves and bags. Tie-dyeing is not only a form of art, but also a lifestyle.

Yesterday we had a tie-dying workshop at school and it was amazing. We used the traditional method of the Bai people of Dali in Yunnan province and made some wonderful things. I used a white T-shirt and now it’s blue and white with fun patterns.
First, I twisted parts of the T-shirt and tied them with thread. Then I put the T-shirt into a big bowl of dye. The dye got its beautiful blue colour from a special plant. After a few minutes of moving the T-shirt around in the dye, I took it out and let it dry in the sun.
When it was dry, I untied the T-shirt and saw the amazing patterns. I really love my T-shirt and it’s great to learn about traditional tie-dying.
