It is difficult to name a female architect more iconic than Zaha Hadid, whose name can be translated from Arabic as glorious. She passed away five years ago at the age of 65, but the impact she has left on the world of architecture is profound.
Hadid was born into an upper-class Iraqi family in 1950. At the very beginning, she wanted to become a mathematician and studied science at the American University of Beirut. But at some point she realized that she preferred shapes to numbers. And she turned her concentration to architecture and went to London where she met the famous Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas.
“There are 360 degrees, so why stick to one ” Hadid once said. Despite her abundance of amazing ideas, before the beginning of the 90s, not a single building based on her blueprints had been built. Her highly expressive style, while initially criticized and believed to be crazy, is now regarded as pioneering work. Her striking contemporary architecture, inspired by natural landforms, has graced the skylines of major metropolitan cities.
“Women are always being told, ‘you’re not going to make it; It’s too difficult; You can’t do that; Don’t enter this competition; You’ll never win it’,” Hadid said. “They need confidence in themselves and people around them for support.”
Never one to be boxed in by conventions, Hadid proved society wrong. She received her first prize, the “Gold Medal Architectural Design” for her British Architecture in 1982. From then on, the awards kept rolling in. But the true triumph for Hadid came in 2004. Her project for the London Olympics Aquatic Center won her the Pritzker Architecture Prize. She became the first woman and first Muslim to earn the award, making a name for herself and paving the way for female architects.
Hadid’s genius lives on in the array of many other spectacular buildings she has left behind in the world. Among them are the Guangzhou Opera House, the Beijing Daxing International Airport, as well as the Al Wakrah Stadium in Qatar where the 2022 FIFA World Cup was held.
Hadid may be gone, but her global influence on a new generation of female architects is here to stay.
39.What made Hadid quit science to learn architecture
A.Her talent for architecture. B.Her interest in architecture.
C.Her difficulty in learning science. D.Her encounter with Rem Koolhaas.
40.What can we learn about Hadid’s works
A.Her architecture was inspired by mathematics.
B.Her British Architecture won her the Pritzker Architecture Prize.
C.Her architecture style was too bold to be accepted at the very beginning.
D.Her works can only be found in European countries and the Middle East.
41.What does paragraph 4 mainly about
A.The talk between Hadid and her colleague.
B.The reason why women fail to be architects.
C.The prejudice from society against women.
D.The difficulty Hadid faced being an architect.
42.What is the most profound impact Hadid has left on the world
A.She formed a unique style.
B.She broke away from the convention.
C.She received various architecture awards.
D.She encouraged other women architects.

It’s 2025, and you just ride in a robotaxi for the first time. Getting a ride is as easy as hailing a taxi (打出租车), and the ride itself is better: you control the music and don’t need to make small talk. Above all, the trip is safe.
If you decide to buy a new car today, chances are that the vehicle you’d drive off the lot would have some autonomous features — it might be able to parallel park itself, for example, or hit the brakes if the car in front of you suddenly slows. For the foreseeable future, though, if you want to check your emails on your way to work, your only option might be to hail a robotaxi owned and operated by someone else.
Instead of trying to sell autonomous cars directly to consumers, autonomous vehicle developers plan to use their vehicles like self-driving taxis, providing rides to customers on demand once hailed via apps. This gives developers control over where and how their autonomous vehicles are used, helping avoid some potential liability issues. Because the autonomous vehicles themselves are on the road a lot more than private cars tend to be, the robotaxi model also gives developers the opportunity to collect more data — the kind needed to improve the systems — more quickly. It also allows them to generate income continuously from the expensive vehicles, rather than having them mostly sit parked in driveways and lots. It may not be enough to offset research and development or hardware costs right now, but if the robotaxi industry grows the way many experts predict, the market could end up being huge.
It’s not just the US where robotaxis are being researched, tested, and even deployed. China is the other leader right now, and it is proceeding on roughly the same timeline as the US. In 2023, a few cities in China, including Beijing and Shanghai, received government permission to run robotaxis on the road. Robotaxis are being popularized at cut-throat prices in Wuhan. It has ambitions to become the world’s first driverless city.
43. How does the author introduce the topic of the robotaxi
A. By comparing it with regular taxis. B. By quoting traffic safety reports.
C. By analyzing its smart functions. D. By describing a riding experience.
44. Why do developers avoid selling autonomous cars directly to consumers
A. To maintain control over vehicle usage and avoid legal risks.
B. To make autonomous cars affordable for average consumers.
C. To speed up data transmission for systematic improvements.
D. To help most autonomous car companies make steady profits.
45. What does the underlined word “offset” in the third paragraph mean
A. Put up with. B. Make up for. C. Cut down on. D. Take advantage of.
46. What does the author imply in the last paragraph
A. Different nations are working together to develop robotaxi technology.
B. Robotaxi markets are expanding aggressively across China’s major cities.
C. Chinese governments are actively investing in the rising robotaxi industry.
D. Several Chinese cities are making rapid progress in robotaxi development.

Plenty of academic research had examined creativity — but relatively little had gone to curiosity. The website wikipedia describes curiosity as a “quality related to thinking”. But there is a lot more to explore about it — and Wikipedia, as the world’s largest encyclopedia, is now aiding social scientists to deepen the definition of curiosity in a study.
Tracing how Wikipedia searchers browse (浏览) among topics revealed three different styles of human curiosity: the “busybody,” the “hunter” and the “dancer.” A busybody follows a route through many often distantly related topics. A hunter, in contrast, searches with sustained (持续不变的) focus, moving among a relatively small number of closely related articles. A dancer links together highly different topics to try to integrate new ideas.
“Curiosity actually works by connecting pieces of information, not just acquiring them,” says University of Pennsylvania network scientist Dani Bassett, co-senior author on a recent study of these curiosity types. “It’s not that we go through the world and pick up a piece of information and put it in our pockets like a stone. Instead we gather information and connect it to stuff that we already know.”
The recent study tracked more than 482,000 people using Wikipedia’s mobile app in 50 countries and 14 languages. The researchers charted these users’ paths using “knowledge networks” of connected information. Beyond this, they linked curiosity styles to location-based indicators of wellbeing, inequality, and other measures. In countries with higher education levels, people browsed more like busybodies. In countries with lower scores on these indicators, people browsed like hunters. Dancer patterns, more recently confirmed, were excluded.
Princeton University psychologist Erik Nook praised the study’s “incredibly large” range. The authors, he says, brought together knowledge from various fields to reveal deep insights into human behavior.
What is Wikipedia’s role in the study
Research helper. B. Invention starter.
C. Behavior motivator. D. Quality inspector.
48. How does curiosity work
A. By correcting data. B. By proving ideas.
C. By processing information. D. By selecting topics.
49. What did the recent study in paragraph 4 find
A. Dancer patterns earn popularity. B. Knowledge networks guide users.
C. Hunters come from rich countries. D. Education levels affect curiosity types.
50. What is Erik Nook’s attitude toward the study
A. Unclear. B. Unconcerned. C. Neutral. D. Approving.
第二节(共5题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Whether you’re in class or at work, you might ever be told to stop daydreaming and concentrate. It’s easy for your mind to wander if you aren’t interested in what you’re doing or have better things to think about. __51__ Understanding how to do it can help. Scientists have looked at what puts people off and found ways to help stay in the zone.
__52__ Research by BBC Science Focus magazine revealed that silence is best for concentration and that the soft background music is great! It also found turning off notifications on your phone, or switching it off altogether, removes a major distraction and helps to focus on the task at hand.
Another possible cure for a short attention span(持续时间) is brain training. Psychologists and scientists are increasingly interested in human ability to get down to work and have looked at what people can change inside the head to become concentrated. They have proved making a task more visually demanding takes up more processing power. __53__ So, keeping your mind busy might be the answer.
There are more practical tips on keeping your mind focused. __54__ Finding a workspace where you’re not attracted to do other things is also advisable, or chewing some snacks. It’s possible that the movement in your mouth occupies parts of the brain that might otherwise get distracted.
But according to BBC Science Focus magazine, distraction isn’t all bad. __55__ If you are always so focused that you never get distracted, you’d miss potential changes, such as threats, in the environment.
A. It is vital for survival.
B. Many people struggle with disturbance.
C. Getting rid of noise is one of the most obvious means.
D. Try making a list or timetable of tasks you have to do.
E. A comfortable environment is useful for concentration.

书面表达(共1小题,满分20分)
Version 1: Should Students Use Translation Pens in English Learning
Hello, everyone. It is an honor to represent our group in summarizing our discussion. Our group strongly supports the use of translation pens in English learning. We believe that this device offers several advantages that can significantly enhance the learning experience.
Firstly, translation pens are incredibly portable and convenient to use. They can be carried anywhere, allowing learners to access translations instantly. Secondly, by offering immediate feedback, translation pens can improve learning efficiency, which is particularly beneficial to beginners. Additionally, they can also be of great help in practicing English reading and writing skills by providing real-time translation support.
In conclusion, with the portability and real-time translation capabilities, translation pens are a valuable tool for English learners. However, translation pens should be used as a supplementary tool to support our English learning, rather than replace active language practice.
Version 2: Should Students Use Translation Pens in English Learning
Hello, everyone. It is an honor to represent our group in summarizing our discussion. Our group is against using translation pens in English learning. We hold the opinion that using them too much might bring more problems than benefits.
Firstly, translation pens may make us lazy thinkers. By giving answers too quickly, they stop us from trying to understand new words through the context of a sentence, which is a very important skill. Secondly, if we depend on this tool, it will become harder for us to remember new vocabulary well. Getting translations too easily means we are less likely to learn them properly. Moreover, the translations provided are not always accurate, which can lead to misunderstandings.
In conclusion, we believe real progress comes from thinking and practicing actively, not from taking shortcuts. So, we suggest students use translation pens very carefully.
