You have probably heard the saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade (柠檬水).” Since lemons are considered bitter and lemonade is considered sweet, the saying tells you to make the best out of a bad situation.
Unluckily, when something bad happens, it’s not uncommon for most people to talk about it to anyone who’ll listen, and complain about life. “Why me?” That’s like getting a bag of lemons and thinking, “Lemons taste bad! I’d rather have chocolate!” If you don’t make anything with the lemons, they will go bad. But what if you did something with them? What if you made lemonade? Isn’t it possible to do something similar with a bad situation?
Here’s an example. You’re about to go to the cinema when you discover you have a flat tire (瘪胎). You consider this a terrible thing for you are really looking forward to enjoying the movie. Now you’re very upset, hating the tire, the car, and your life. But what if you called AAA (美国汽车协会) and got your tire fixed? What if you did some reading, or had coffee with a friend instead? A bad experience can be turned into something positive. Almost anything can work itself out into something better. You can’t change what has happened, so make the best of it. I’m not saying it will be easy. The easy thing to do is complain about your bad situation and not consider what it could be turned into.
Next time when something unfortunate happens, stop and think, “How can I turn this around? How can I make it a positive experience?”
4. What do we know about the saying in the first paragraph?
A. It is encouraging. B. It is funny.
C. It is boring. D. It is unreasonable.
5. What do most people usually do when something bad happens?
A. Accept it. B. Complain about it.

6. The author uses the example of seeing a movie to tell us ______.
A. there is a flat tire happening sometimes B. it doesn’t matter to make mistakes
C. how to turn something bad into good D. turning to others for help is necessary
7. What is the best way to deal with a bad situation according to the text?
A. Trying hard to solve it. B. Laughing your way through it.
C. Thinking more about its goods. D. Turning it into a positive experience.

After bikes and umbrellas are made sharable across China, some companies started eyeing the fitness market, so shared gym rooms have hit the streets in Beijing.
Unlike common gyms that provide large, open spaces for many members to share at the same time, the newly built shared gym rooms are small, stand-alone (独立的) rooms for a person to use, often set up near living communities.
Every four-square-meter room provides a treadmill (跑步机), an air cleaner, a mirror, a television and an air conditioner, and users can let down the curtains (窗 帘) for privacy. When exercising, users can listen to music, watch movies and check emails by connecting to the Internet by the screen fixed on the treadmill. But there’s no shower.
Similar to using a shared bike, users can locate (定位) a shared gym room by a smartphone app, book a room in advance and then need to scan a QR code (二维码) for use. A refundable deposit (保证金) of 99 yuan is required, and users are charged 1 yuan every 5 minutes.
The shared gym rooms are created by Misspao, a Beijing-based technology company founded in July. Within several months since it was founded, the company has already raised over 100 million yuan. However, the idea of the shared fitness experience is not totally nascent. Last December, the company VRUN set up shared treadmills in office and apartment buildings.
The sharing economy is still becoming popular in China. According to Yicai Global, confident people are pouring millions into sharing start-ups. In March, the State Information Center published a report which predicts that the total value of China’s sharing economy will see a yearly growth of 40% in the coming years, and it is expected to make a great contribution to the country’s GDP.
12. What makes the shared gym room different from the common one?
A. Holding one person at a time. B. Standing in the living zone.
C. Offering open spaces. D. Having some advanced equipment.
13. What do people need to do to use the shared gym room?
A. Let down curtains for privacy.
B. Pay 100 yuan first.
C. Use a smartphone to book a room ahead of time.
D. Have a shower before exercise.
14. What does the underlined word “nascent” in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Simple. B. Popular. C. Satisfying. D. New.
15. What is the author’s purpose of writing the text?
A. To advertise a technology company. B. To introduce shared gym rooms.
C. To support the shared gym rooms. D. To predict the future of shared gym rooms.

One Saturday morning, I got a call from my aunt. She told me that she had to go with my uncle on a business trip for the day, and she wondered if I could look after my little 6-year-old cousin, Max. I knew that for them, leaving their dearest son for a day was the last thing in the whole world they would do, because they were what is known as “helicopter parents”, who keep watching everything their kids do. As a high school student, I knew exactly that children who were brought up by helicopter parents could end up having many problems and I hoped I could do something to improve the situation, so I accepted her request. Actually, I was honored to be trusted by such parents.
When I arrived there, my aunt and uncle were just ready to go out. The last thing my aunt said to me before they left was “Don’t let him hurt himself while we are away.” She repeated it several times until she thought I took it seriously. After they left, I tried to teach Max to play some games that might be against my aunt’s will, but failed. Max seemed not to be interested, and even frightened. I didn’t want to push him, so I decided to slow it down.
Around lunch time, Max asked me what was for lunch. I said, “I don’t know, what do you want?” He said, “Can you cook scrambled eggs?” I replied, “Of course I can!” “Well,” said Max, “I want some.” I asked him if he could cook. He looked at me in amazement, and said, “Of course not. Mom won’t allow me to approach the kitchen. She thinks I’ll be burnt if I try to do that, but I think it would be amazing to cook what I like on my own.”
Paragraph 1:
Suddenly, I had an idea.

Paragraph 2:
When my aunt and uncle returned, they saw Max cooking a dinner in the kitchen.

【答案】Possible version:
Suddenly I had an idea. Why not let him start with cooking? I was quite good at cooking, so I thought this might be a good opportunity to teach Max a new skill. I told him my idea. Max jumped up and down when he heard that. Due to his height, I pulled up a chair and he stood on it. With my instructions and encouragement, he did well and became confident. Though we made the kitchen messy, we were satisfied with our work. We thought supper would be better.
When my aunt and uncle returned they saw Max cooking a dinner in the kitchen. As I expected, she was shocked. At first, she was worried, fearing her son would fall off the chair or touch something hot. But seeing how well Max was cooking the meal, she was no longer worried. The moment Max saw her he stopped and shouted happily, “Mom, I can cook now.” My aunt felt really proud. “Thank you. I never let Max do anything he really wanted to because I feared he would get hurt. Now I should let him just go for it.”
