Recently, our class had a heated discussion about the issue of chemical farming and organic farming. When we compare chemical farming with organic farming, we find both have advantages to some extent. Supporters (50%) of chemical farming argue it ensures higher yields to feed growing populations and protects crops from pests. On the
other hand, the disadvantages are also obvious. Opponents believe it may do harm to soil quality and pose a threat to human health through chemical residues. Organic farming, though producing lower yields, uses natural fertilizers, which are environmentally friendly. The crops are considered more nutritious and safer.
Personally speaking, while chemical farming meets current food demands, we should develop safer methods to reduce its potential risks. A balanced approach might be the best solution for sustainable agriculture.
