The Biggest Stadiums in the World
People have been pouring into stadiums since the days of ancient Greece. In around80 A. D., the Romans built the Colosseum, which remains the world's best known stadium and continues to inform contemporary design. Rome's Colosseum was 157 feet tall and had 80 entrances, seating 50,000 people. However, that was small fry compared with the city's Circus Maximus, which accommodated around 250,000 people.
These days, safety regulations-not to mention the modern sports fan's desire for a good view and comfortable seat— tend to keep stadium capacities(容量) slightly lower. Even soccer fans tend to have a seat each; gone are the days of thousands standing to watch the match.
For the biggest stadiums in the world, we have used data supplied by the World Atlas list so far, which ranks them by their stated permanent capacity, as well as updated information from official stadium websites.
All these stadiums are still functional, still open and still hosting the biggest events in world sport.

Alexander Graham Bell was born in 1847 in Scotland, but when he was young his family moved to Boston, USA.
He believed that one should always be curious and his most famous saying was: Leave the beaten track occasionally and dive into the woods. Every time you do you will be certain to find something that you have never seen before. Follow it up, explore all around it, and before you know it, you will have something worth thinking about to occupy your mind. All really big discoveries are the result of thought.
It was this exploring around problems and his dynamic spirit that led to his most famous invention-the telephone in 1876. Bell never set out to invent the telephone and what he was trying to design was a multiple telegraph.
The original telegraph sent a message over distances using Morse code. But only one message could go at a time. Bell wanted to improve it so that it could send several messages at the same time. He designed a machine that would separate different sound waves and allow different conversations to be held at the same time. In searching to improve the telegraph, Bell had invented the first telephone!
The patent was given in 1876, but it was not until five days later that Bell sent his first telephone message to his assistant Watson. The words have now become famous:
“Mr Watson— come here—I want to see you.”
Alexander Graham Bell was not a man to rest and he interested himself in many other areas of invention. He experimented with helicopter designs and flying machines. While searching for a kite strong enough to carry a man into the air, Bell experimented putting triangles together and discovered the tetrahedron shape. Being very stable, it has proved invaluable in the design of bridges.
4. What does the author think is the key to Bell's success as an inventor
A. Curiosity. B. Intelligence. C. Good luck. D. Inspiration.
5. When did Bell have the patent for the telephone
A. In 1847. B. In 1876. C. In 1880. D. In 1888.
6. Modern bridge designs benefit a lot from_____________.
A. Kites B. Telephone C. flying machines D. tetrahedron shape
7. From the text we can see that Alexander Graham Bell was a_________ person.
A. poor B. rich C. creative D. kind

A robot may be defined as a machine that can be programmed to perform acts automatically. With the increase in high technology, robots are taking over boring or inconvenient work in many areas of life.
One area where robots are making an appearance is farming. There is a robotic revolution going on in the milking industry, and cows, as well as farmers are experiencing the benefits. The advantage for the cows is that they can choose when and how many times a day they want to be milked. On the other hand, farmers no longer have to get up at 4 am every day to go to the milking sheds and this makes a huge difference to their way of life.
In traditional farming, cows are milked twice a day, in the morning and the evening, mainly because: this is the most convenient way for farmers to get two milking sessions completed in one day. However, this is not necessarily the best way for each individual cow. Because the robots are programmed to milk the cows whenever they arrive, the cows can be milked once, twice or even four times a day. It is an entirely voluntary system for the cows. They decide.
Farmers report that midnight is a particularly busy time at the milking shed. The interesting thing is the cows like the system once they get used to it. Farmers report that milk production increases, the cows live longer and they seem far more relaxed.
The computerized robotic system is entirely automatic. As the cows enter the facility, they are weighed, milked and productivity and health checks are carried out. The facility cleans itself at regular intervals(间隔) and if there is a problem, the robot sends the farmer a message.
Equipping a farm with robots is not cheap. However, farmers who have installed the robotic milking sheds, say they would never go back to the old system. The commonly reported sight of cows queuing patiently in front of their favourite robot must mean the cows like it too.
8. What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A. To talk about a kind of robot. B. To tell the importance of robots.
C. To introduce the applications of robots. D. To provide the definition of robotic system.
9. What benefit may robots bring to the cows according to the text
A. They can be freer to be milked. B. They can be milked twice a day.
C. They can choose the day to be milked. D. They can get up at 4 am to be milked.
10. Which of the following would the author probably agree
A. The robotic system is entirely automatic except for health checks.
B. The robotic system is so expensive that farmers will never install one.
C. The robotic system is voluntary for cows to be milked of their own free will.
D. Morning and evening are the two most convenient milking sessions for cows.
11. What would be the best title for the text
A. A robotic revolution in milking B. Cows favourite helper
C. Hands free for the farmers D. An expensive milking shed

The Mattel toy company created a new Barbie doll with the famous British scientist Jane Goodall as its model. The company issued the new doll this week, the latest member of the Barbie toymaker's “Inspiring Women”. Mattel said the doll, made from used plastic, honored Goodall's deep research on chimpanzees (黑猩猩) in Tanzania and her efforts to protect the wild animals.
The doll was dressed in a light brown shirt and shorts, much like that seen in many images of Goodall at work in Africa. It also came with a notebook, telescopes and another doll modeled on the real chimp Goodall named David Greybeard. He was the first chimpanzee with which she built trust in Tanzania's Gombe Stream National Park. The relationship permitted her to study the animals extremely closely. “I wanted a doll to be me even before this idea came up,” the 88-year-old scientist said. She praised Mattel for developing new Barbies standing for a wider number of working women.
Lisa McKnight agreed. She is the Executive Vice President and Global Head of Barbie and Dolls for Mattel. She said, “We hope that this collection inspires kids to learn more about green careers and how they can protect the planet, and act out stories about environmental protection through doll play.”
Goodall started her research in what is now Tanzania in the 1960s. She produced much research on wild chimpanzees over the years. She recorded how they made and used tools, lived in communities, and showed a high level of emotional understanding.
Goodall wanted to teach children that if they wanted to have a good effect on the changing environment, they must act. Goodall said, “Hope is about action on climate change, loss of wildlife, unfriendly lifestyles and pollution. We reach out to others because there are people working on each one of these problems…”
12. What do we know about the doll modeled on Goodall
A. It was created by Goodall. B. It looked like a chimpanzee.
C. It was in honour of Goodall. D. It was named David Greybeard.
13. What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A. The habits of chimpanzees. B. Goodall's career experiences.
C. The importance of studying wild animals. D. The bad living conditions of chimpanzees.
14. What did Goodall call on children to do in the last paragraph
A. Keep healthy. B. Raise questions.
C. Adapt to the environment. D. Protect the natural environment.
15. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Jane Goodall Gets Her Own Doll B. A New Doll Is About to Go on Sale
C. Women Should Have Green Careers D. Environmentally Friendly Action Is a Must

Doing fitness routines is challenging and sometimes boring. Here is some advice on how to make exercise as fun as video games.
Have an objective
When you're playing a game, there's always an objective. It helps us focus on the task at hand and motivates us to keep playing until we win the game. 16 Create a clear fitness goal. Aim to walk 10,000 steps a day, for example, or try to run a total of 6miles every week.
Compete against others
Adding an element of competition to your exercise routine can actually help you work out harder. If you're seeking a similar motivation, look into fitness programs that encourage friendly competition. The app Zwift, for example, is a good choice. 17
Team up with others
Getting a group to work together toward a common goal was also an effective way to increase physical activity. You can try to recreate this dynamic by working toward an exercise goal with other people, particularly those who you have a close relationship to. 18 So grab a close friend or family member and bring them to the gym with you.
Add a sense of playfulness
Some people love video games because there's a lot of unpredictability and surprise. 19 You can recreate this sense of playfulness in your own exercises. For example, you can take photos of at least 5 different flowers on your neighborhood walk. Ride your bike from one friend's house to another.
20 If exercise makes you feel slightly happy or adds some kind of meaning to your life, that's great.
A. Exercise should be no different.
B. Just remember every moment of playful engagement is a victory.
C. But how to apply these techniques to our everyday fitness routines
D. Similarly, you can do many things to bring back a sense of childlike wonder.
E. It allows you race against others around a virtual world using your own bike.
F. This approach encouraged each member of the group to try to meet the day's step goal.
G. They can help you hold yourself accountable in a way you might not do with a stranger.
