Suppose you are going to a hotel with your family. You’d probably expect to find a room with a bed, a TV, and a bathroom. What might you find in an insect hotel
Insect hotels don’t have beds or TVs, but they do offer ideal “homes” for insects. They can be as small as a backpack or as large as a car.
The idea of creating insect hotels began in Germany. The people there noticed that many insects are in danger of becoming extinct because humans are changing their environment. They decided to create an environment that would protect insects and help them do their work.
They found that ▲ . Some insects like wet environments, while others prefer dry areas. Wood sticks, hay, and leaves are some materials insects find comfortable. Insect hotels may also include sections, or “rooms”, that attract(吸引)different insects.
Insects are helpful in many ways. Some eat other insects that bite or sting us. Some carry pollen (花粉)between flowers, which helps plants make seeds.
Hotels for insects may be new, but beehives(蜂箱)are not. Humans have been creating homes for honeybees for more than 3,000 years. This hobby is called beekeeping. Beekeeping helps both bees and people. Bees make honey that we like to eat. They also carry pollen between flowers.

Everyone in my class was afraid of Mrs. Lane, my math teacher. She knew everything, especially about you. She likes tidiness. After class, one of us would walk down the rows with the wastebasket and we would put in our waste paper.
Once as a classmate collected our waste paper, Dave suddenly threw a paper ball into the basket about 4 feet away. Soon other kids followed excitedly. I also put up a beautiful shot. But the minute it left my fingers, Mrs. Lane called my name. I felt so terrible.
“Nice shot! I’d like to see more,” she said. Mrs. Lane took me to the door. “Ten more shots from here. Every time you don’t score a goal, you have one hour with me after school.” The class cheered when I scored and groaned(叹气)when I failed. Finally, I made three shots and missed seven. It meant seven hours of one-on-one with Mrs. Lane, with one every afternoon. I simply accepted the fact that I’d never be happy again.
Then I understood why Mrs. Lane did this: I was new here. And I made only a few friends. Here’s what happened: Whether I hit the wastebasket or not, this brought my classmates’ attention to me.
The first day came.
“Come in,” Mrs. Lane said. “Pull up a chair.”
I did. She passed a plate of cookies to me. “You’re probably hungry,” she said. I was always hungry, so I took a cookie. “Thank you,” I said.
There was a plate of cookies on her desk every afternoon for the next six afternoons. They were homemade, and they were delicious. We grew closer that week.
And on that eighth afternoon, I felt a little lost as I kicked my way through fallen leaves, all the way home.

B. The writer was punished by Mrs. Lane.
C. The writer missed the cookies from Mrs. Lane.
D. The writer missed the time he spent with Mrs. Lane.

Have you ever noticed that airplane seats are usually blue Here’s why they are often a calming, dark shade of blue.
Blue is calming. The idea is to make airplanes feel more like home with relaxing colors and designs that help people feel calm and relaxed. People connect certain colors with certain feelings. Blue is a soothing color that suggests peace, calm, and relaxation.
It physically feels cooler. Blue can actually make you feel cooler. In a study reported by Popular Science, 48 percent of participants(参与者)thought soda served in a blue glass was more thirst-quenching (解渴) than soda served in glasses of other colors. This is probably because they connected blue with cold.
Blue feels professional. Blue can lower your heart rate, improve your mental clarity(清晰度), and inspire creativity, according to a website called Color Psychology (心理学)exploring the meanings of various colors. It also says blue instills confidence and trust, which most airlines could make use of.
It’s a common well-liked color. It is hard to find someone who dislikes the color blue. It is a common color widely welcomed by the public. This is also why many brands(品牌)choose to have blue logos. People around the world connect the color with positive things, such as clean water and blue skies, so they tend to like it. In many different cultures and across all ages, blue is the world’s most popular color.
Blue can also be practical. The right shade hides marks well. Imagine how many people sit on airplane seats every day. And how many crumbs(食物碎屑), drinks, and other things get spilled on them Dark colors are better at hiding marks. Those dark blue seats will look newer and cleaner for longer.
66. How many reasons are mentioned in the article why airlines prefer blue seats
A. Four B. Five C. Six D. Seven
67. Why do many brands often choose blue as the color for their logos
A. Blue can lower people’s heart rate. B. Blue suggests peace and relaxation.
C. Blue is a common well-liked color. D. Blue is practical and hides marks well.
68. What is the main purpose of the article
A. To find out the reasons why airplane seats are usually blue.
B. To discover how popular blue is among different cultures.
C. To prove that blue can physically make people feel cooler.
D. To discuss the psychology behind how airplanes are designed.

①So far, China has successfully sent a large number of satellites(卫星)and spaceships into space. Space scientists have been greatly inspired(赋予灵感)by the old stories and ancient famous people when giving them names.
②Since thousands of years ago, Chinese people have dreamed of going to the moon. Chang’e Flies to the Moon is one of the most popular stories. As you can see, China’s first man-made satellite to move around the moon was named Chang’e I. More interestingly, the moon rover(巡视器)was named after the Jade Rabbit(玉兔), who is the partner of Chang’e in the story. These old stories carry people’s best wishes and dreams. With the development of science and technology, our scientists have made them come true.
③Kua Fu Runs After the Sun is another story to show how much ancient Chinese people wanted to know about the unknown world. Now, Kua Fu is going with the scientists to “visit” the sun, because we have a space project called KuaFu Mission(夸父计划).
④Besides the ancient stories, space scientists also get ideas from ancient famous people. For example, Mozi, an ancient scientist, discovered that light travels in a straight line over 2, 000 years ago. His discovery made space study take a big step at that time. So, China’s first quantum(量子) science satellite was named Mozi, making China the first country in the world to achieve quantum communication between satellites and the ground.
⑤From such simple things as giving names to the satellites, we can see how great our traditional culture is and what influence it has on our modern science and technology.
69. In China, space scientists get ideas from ________ when giving names to satellites.
①old stories ②traditional projects
③ancient famous people ④ popular inventions
A. ①② B. ①③ C. ②④ D. ③④
70. What do we know about Chang’e I according to the passage
A. It moves around the moon. B. It protects the Jade Rabbit.
C. It “visits” the sun with the scientists. D. It is the world’s first man-made satellite.
71. Which is the right structure of the passage
(①=Paragraph 1 ②=Paragraph 2,…)
A. B. C. D.
72. What’s the writer’s main purpose of writing the passage
A. To spread the traditional Chinese culture.
B. To explain how our scientists develop the space industry.
C. To introduce the achievements in our science and technology.
D. To tell how traditional Chinese culture influences our space science.

One possible version:
Dear friend,
I’m also a Grade 9 student. It’s common for us to have such problems. I’d like to give you some advice on how to deal with them.
It seemed that you make little progress in study. Many students of our age have this problem. First, listening to your teacher carefully in class is of great importance. After class, it’s also necessary to go over what you’ve learnt as soon as possible.
You said a few classmates often laugh at you. Try to pay no attention to them and just be yourself. Besides, you can talk with them to express yourself. If they still do the same to you, ask teachers or parents for help.
I hope you think my advice is worth taking.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
