Introduce Evan and his plan to visit Beijing Zoo. Step 2 Presentation Have students read the sentences below and pay attention to the same structure. Then have them answer the following questions. He couldn’t wait to visit Wuxi Zoo to watch the two big stars. He asked me not to plan the trip for him. Finally, his friends helped him (to) make the plan and they had much fun. What is the structure What is the basic form of the structure How about the negative form Have students read Simon’s article about a giant panda on page 70 and pay attention to the words in bold. Then have them answer the following questions. What structure do the words in bold use What are “to-infinitives” used as in the structure “verbs + to-infinitives” Have students finish “Work out the rule!” in Part A on page 70. Have students read more phrases in the structure “verbs + to-infinitives”. Have students figure out different meanings in the structures “verbs + to-infinitives” and “verbs + gerunds”. Step 3 Practice Have students finish Part A1 on page 70. Step 4 Presentation Have students read the text written by a panda keeper in Part B on page 70 and pay attention to the words in bold. Then have them answer the following question. What are to-infinitives used as in the text Have students use “in order to” to rewrite the sentence and master its negative form. Step 5 Practice Have students finish Part B1 on page 71. Step 6 Presentation Have students read Daniel’s article about the school trip to the zoo in Part C on page 71 and pay attention to the words in bold. Then have them answer the following questions. What structure do the words in bold use What are “infinitives with/without to” used as in the structure “verbs + objects + infinitives with/without to” Have students master more phrases in the structure “verbs + objects + infinitives with/without to”.
