Task 1 Skim for the main idea and the structure. Read the title, the first and last paragraph and the first sentence of each paragraph and match each paragraph with the correct main idea. Choose the correct structure of the article and conclude the main idea of each part. Task 2 Scan for specific information. Scan Paras 1&2, and finish Exercise B in the book. Scan Paras 3&4 and complete the chart. Task 3 Read and think for further understanding. Read about the story about Xiwang more carefully and think about: What do we know about Xiwang A. Xiwang had black and white fur when it was born. B. Xiwang got 14 hours’ care every day in the beginning. C. Xiwang was able to eat bamboo at 5 months old. D. At 1 year old, it weighed over 350 times its weight at birth. Find sentences which show panda keepers’ love. Understand the sentence “the number of giant pandas is increasing.” Task 4 Read and think further. What does “our” refer to in the sentence “But they still need our protection.” How can we understand the title —“Xiwang in safe hands” Task 5 Discussion. Task 6 Complete Exercise C in the book.
