Tom and Mary are husband and wife. Like many New Age travellers, they don’t live in a house, but in a truck. For about three years they moved around the country with some travellers. Now their daughter, Alice, is four years old, and Mary wants to change their life and comes back to the city. But Tom likes the travelling life. He thinks they should stay on the road.
“We’ve a lot of good friends here. We live in the open air. We keep animals. We do what we want to. If we like a place, we stay for some time. If we don’t like it, we move on. I hate cities. You must live in a small box and you should work hard for all your time to get enough money to live. That’s not life. We should stay away from cities. Alice is a nice girl. The people with us all love her. She can learn real things about life with us on the road.”
“Yes, I like this life better than living in a city. Travelling is interesting in spring and summer. But winter is always difficult. Alice gets ill every winter and she has a bad cold for most of the years. The most important thing, I think, is that Alice needs a good education and she should have her own usual life like other kids. We shouldn’t let her stay away from school. That means we must live in one place. Shall we move back to the city or not I know what we should do!”

2.What does Mary want Alice to get by returning to the city

Hello! I hope that you’re well. I’m on holiday in London with my friend Jenny. We arrived by plane on Monday and took a taxi to our hotel. I went for a walk in Hyde Park but Jenny didn’t come with me because she was tired.
Then on Tuesday we saw the clock, Big Ben, and Buckingham Palace. I bought some gifts but Jenny didn’t buy anything!

On Thursday morning we relaxed. Then we went to Tower Bridge on the River Thames and visited the city. It’s very big!
Finally today I did some shopping and Jenny went to a concert (音乐会) in the park. I came back to the hotel and read the newspaper. Then I wrote some postcards (明信片) and sent some emails. I took lots of photos and I’m sending them with this email to you!

Dear Miss King,
I am a fat girl with a round face, so some of my classmates named me “Little Fatty”. I am not confident about my looks. Do you think having good looks is important for a middle school student
Sally
Dear Sally,
Our looks do influence what others think of us and how we feel about ourselves. But the looks are not the most important thing in our life.
What you said makes me think of myself. When I was your age, I was never confident because of my looks. People always laughed at my weight (体重), my height, my hair... At that time, I was the shortest student in my class. I felt very unhappy. However, someone told me something that I would always remember.
It was in March. A group of girls pointed at me and laughed at my looks at a break. I couldn’t help crying. Tears quietly ran down my face. To my surprise, someone wiped (擦) the tears from my eyes. I then knew it was our English teacher Jenny. She said, “You are perfect the way you are. You should never change or hate yourself. People accept you for who you are. But if you can’t accept yourself, then how will other people accept you ”
Her words encouraged me a lot. And later I knew that no one is perfect and that we all have flaws (缺陷). From then on, I became happy and helpful. Now, I have wonderful friends who love me for who I am.
So now, do you feel better after hearing my story Remember that your looks are the best gift from your parents. You are wonderful just the way you are!

A friend is someone who makes you happier than yesterday. Here’s some advice on helping you to become a better friend.
Be honest. When you’re making friends, honesty is the most important thing for you. You should always be honest with your friends. When your friends do something wrong, you should tell them. When they do something good, you should praise (表扬) them honestly.
Give more than you take. Don’t always think about what you have given to your friends. You should remember when you give love to your friends, you can receive (收到) love from them.
Support your friends. We all need encouragement. Tell your friends that you will support them all the time. Encourage your friends to achieve their dreams, and wish them good luck.
Forget your friends’ mistakes. When your friends make mistakes, you should not always remember their mistakes. We all make mistakes, and you should try your best to help your friends to correct their mistakes.

Four types of friends you need in your life
Do you know that people will die early if they have no friends during their lifetime The survey shows if you want to live longer and more happily, you need to have some friends who can share your sadness and happiness or can be helpful when you are in trouble.
The following four types of friends are just what you need to keep the doctors away.
A Loyal Best Friend
Everyone needs a friend who will support you in different situations. This kind of friend knows all of your deepest and darkest secrets, but still loves you all the same.
A Friendly Neighbor
These days, a lot of people don’t know their own neighbors. It’s a shame, because some neighbors can be the most helpful people. If you forget to lock the front door when you are on holiday, you can call your neighbors to lock it for you. So it’s wonderful to have nice and helpful neighbors.
A Workmate
You’ll find it much easier to chat with someone than eating lunch alone every day.
Your workmate doesn’t have to be your best friend. If you two get along well with each other, you can always start going out and having lunch with them outside of the office.
A Friend from a Different Culture
If everyone had a friend from a different culture, the world would be a much better place. Remember not to make friends with someone just because they’re from a different culture. Instead, keep your mind open, and if you meet someone from other places, try to learn about their customs and traditions.
If you have such kinds of friends, you will surely live longer and more happily.

Then outside his window, he saw a monkey playing with a ball. After a while, more and more funny characters appeared outside the window. He started laughing and found it hard to stop.
Later he saw a pig playing the guitar, a duck jumping on a bed and a dog wearing a pair of glasses. The little boy didn’t tell anyone about this because he knew nobody would believe him. His health improved so much that he went back to school.
When he told his best friend about all the strange things he had seen, he saw something standing in his schoolbag. They were all the funny animals that his best friend used to make him happy! He knew that his best friend was his real friend, because he used his heart to help him out of trouble.

How Do Bees Help Plants Grow
Bees are small but super important insects in nature. You often see them flying around bright flowers in spring and summer, but do you really know what they’re doing Bees don’t just fly around for fun—they’re looking for food, and in the process, they help plants grow and make delicious fruits too!
Bees love the sweet nectar inside flowers—it’s their main source (来源) of energy for flying and working. When a bee lands on a flower to drink this nectar, tiny yellow pollen (花粉) sticks to its fuzzy (毛茸茸) legs and body. This pollen is not just “dirt”—it’s what plants need to make seeds (种子). Then, when the bee flies to another flower of the same kind, like a cherry blossom or a strawberry flower, some of the pollen falls off its body onto the new flower. This step is called pollination, and without it, most plants can’t produce seeds or grow fruits—we wouldn’t have apples, strawberries, or even some vegetables without this help from bees!
Plants and bees help each other: bees get nectar and pollen to live, and plants get their pollen moved to make new seeds. But these days, some bees are getting fewer because of air pollution, fewer flowers in cities, and harmful chemicals. To help them, we can plant more flowers in our yards or school gardens, or even leave a small bowl of clean water out for bees on hot days. These simple things let bees have enough food and water, so they can keep helping plants grow.
46.Why are bees flying around bright flowers in spring and summer
Without , most plants can’t produce seeds or grow fruits.

An Experiment Report on Growing Potato PlantsThings prepared:
*a potato that has sprouts
*a flowerpot with soil
*a camera to record progress
Observation:
Day Six Without much change in the past five days, I finally see some new progress on Buddy as it has grown taller. It’s exciting to see new life like this. I hope Buddy can grow faster.
Day Eleven Buddy is getting larger! Three more new sprouts have grown around Buddy! Green leaves have grown on the new sprouts, but they have not fully grown yet. I guess I need to be a bit more patient.
Day Thirteen Buddy continues to grow taller. The leaves on the new sprouts have grown a bit. I’m also excited to see more new sprouts that have grown from under the soil.
Day Fifteen Finally, the leaves on the other sprouts are 3 cm tall. They’re so green. I hope they will soon grow into new potatoes.
What I have learned:
It’s really interesting to grow potatoes. During these fifteen days, I have learned that growing potato plants needs plenty of water. If the soil is dry, the potato will fail to grow. I have also learned that the temperature needs to be right. If it is too cold, it won’t grow. I feel that growing plants is just like trying to succeed with anything in life—it takes not only time, but also lots of effort and patience.

The WWF (世界自然基金会) has warned that climate change is threatening (威胁) the life of the snow leopards (雪豹) in the Himalayas (喜马拉雅山脉). It says rising temperatures cause the natural living places of the big cat to the point that snow leopards could die out. In a new report, it says that up to a third of the areas on the mountain where the snow leopards live could become uninhabitable Lots of plants and food the animals need could disappear in warmer temperatures. The WWF said, “The Himalayas area will face danger if we choose not to care about climate change...We will lose the snow leopard.”
It isn’t just climate change that is making a serious threat to the future of the snow leopard. Many activities from humans are also adding to the dangers the animals face. Snow leopards are highly needed for their fur and body parts. People are killing the animals for money. The snow leopards are also being killed by farmers when they are trying to protect their animals. As the natural food of the snow leopards is decreasing, the animals are going into human areas to kill farm animals. The result is that the farmers shoot the snow leopards. The WWF reported this result on Friday, which was the first International Snow Leopard Day.

The Shy Mimosa
Mimosa pudica, or the “sensitive plant”, is known for its special ability. When touched, its leaves fold up quickly, as if it’s shy. This clever trick helps it avoid being eaten by animals—most pests lose interest when the leaves close!
Mimosa grows in warm places like forests and grasslands. It loves sunlight and well-watered soil. But today, this plant is in danger. People often pick it for fun, and construction (建筑施工) destroys its home. In some areas, mimosa has become rare.
Scientists say mimosa is more than a “shy” plant. Its folding leaves can teach us about plant movement—how plants react to the world around them. Protecting mimosa means saving a small but important part of nature’s diversity (多样性).

It is the coldest time of the year. At 4:00 am, fishermen in Jilin are already crossing an ice lake. They bring tools like nets (网) and hooks (钩子) to go fishing in the ice lake.
At the end of every year, people start ice fishing in Chagan Lake, Jilin. The lake is one of China’s biggest freshwater (淡水的) lakes. And there are 68 kinds of fish in it. Bighead carps (胖头鱼) are the most famous among them. The fishermen can get tons of fish in one catch.
Winter in Northeast China is long and cold. The fishermen there have to break the ice to make a living. They have done this for about 1,000 years. With the year 2025 around the corner, let’s wish the fishermen a good harvest!

They must be careful not to fall into the lake while doing this.Step 3 Set the net Then, they place a big net under the ice. The net goes along the holes and rounds up (围起来) the fish.Step 4 Pull in the net After 7 to 8 hours of hard work, they pull the net out of the water through a big hole. There are a lot of fat fish inside it.

Do you know the monkey orange It sounds interesting, doesn’t it The name “monkey orange” really has something to do with monkeys because they enjoy eating the fruit.
The monkey orange tree grows in Africa. It can grow to about seven meters tall. The fruit is round, about the size of a grapefruit (葡萄柚). As monkey oranges are fully grown, they turn from green to yellow. But the flesh (果肉) of the fruit is brown or orange.
The monkey orange’s good taste makes it a popular fruit in Africa. People eat it also because it’s good for their health. However, it’s not just a kind of fruit. Monkey orange trees and monkey oranges can play a role in other ways.
Monkey orange trees don’t need a lot of rain to grow. So when there is not enough rain and crops (庄稼) don’t grow well, people can eat monkey oranges as their healthy food.
People make this fruit into juice or some other drinks. Selling the fruit can help people get more money. People use the wood (木头) of monkey orange trees to make useful things. Also, the leaves of monkey orange trees are useful for keeping insects (昆虫) away. Farmers grow the trees around their farms to help preserve fertile soil
All in all, monkey oranges are much more than just a fruit. They are important to African people.

71.Why do mimosa leaves fold up when touched (No more than 10 words)
