【答案】18.C 19.A 20.C
And the next part of this talk is on the Panama Canal. It’s amazing how this one small section of a small country can be so important to the world.
The Panama Canal is an artificial waterway in the Central American country of Panama that connects the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. It is only 82 kilometres long. If you go around South America by ship, then you need to travel another 15,000 kilometres. So the canal saves a lot of travel time. It takes around 8 to 10 hours to cross the canal.
The French started building the canal in 1881, but they couldn’t finish it. The project was started again in 1904 by the United States and the canal was finally finished in 1914. For the rest of the 20th century, the United States controlled the canal, but gave control back to Panama in 2000.
Every year, around 40,000 ships come through the canal. These are mostly commercial ships. They transport goods for trade between Asia and America, or Europe. In 2016 the government of Panama made the canal bigger, so that now 99 per cent of ships can pass through it.
Let’s now turn to the role of the Panama Canal in the global economy...

Shared mobility: Making travel easier for all
In major cities across Europe and the US, shared bikes and cars seem to be everywhere. Yet for disabled, elderly, low-income individuals, or those without a smartphone or credit card, these services are practically out of reach. Such services tend to gather in wealthy urban areas, leaving users largely young, wealthy, and able-bodied.
Shared mobility could be a key part of a more sustainable transportation system. But to be most effective, it needs to include everyone. For-profit shared mobility providers have largely failed to deliver on this, but various initiatives and projects are finding creative solutions to reach under-served communities.
●Buffalo’s E-Bike Library: Organizes training, group rides and educational events to familiarize people with cycling culture and safety, with 71% of members being first-time riders.
●Mobitwin’s car-share service: Prioritizes email-and phone-based bookings over apps to extend reach to a wider share of the population lacking digital literacy, helping them access the service more easily.
● U. S. bike-sharing policy: Provides fare reductions for low-income groups, with cash payment options and non-smartphone access as key measures to broaden adoption, which has shown promise in increasing the use of shared bikes while decreasing the use of personal vehicles.
●Graz’s car-share initiatives: Add wheelchair-accessible vehicles, child seats, and station-based booking to suit diverse users’ trip-chaining needs, such as mid-route pickups and multi-destination trips.
The future of shared mobility relies on making inclusive design a top priority. As Esen K se, project manager at Mpact, puts it, “It’s about starting with people’s needs.”
21.What is the percentage gap between lower and higher income users in Barrier 1
A.3%. B.16%. C.26%. D.71%.
22.Which solution targets Barrier 2
A.Buffalo’s E-Bike Library. B.Graz’s car-share initiatives.
C.U. S. bike-sharing policy. D.Mobitwin’s car-share service.
23.What will shape the future of shared mobility according to Esen K se
A.Tech-based priority. B.Charity-run initiatives.
C.Profit-driven providers. D.User-centered accessibility.

This spring break, my 12-year-old disabled son rode his first roller coaster. He had so much fun!
The roller coaster was the Slinky Dog Dash at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. Disney World is one of the only mainstream amusement parks that will let my son go on rides. He has cerebral palsy (脑瘫) and is unable to sit independently. Because of his disabilities, most parks won’t let him go on their roller coasters.
The experience at Disney was special for my son, but also special for the rest of my family of five. Splitting up (分开) is something we encounter daily. My son goes to a special school in a town 20 minutes from our home. There are almost no activities he can enjoy at our local parks and recreation program, and he spends a few afternoons a week in physical treatment.
We also divide and conquer when we are out in public. Many buildings have an accessible entrance that is further away, so we split up to avoid dragging everyone around the back. The same goes for hunting for a vacant elevator in a big building or a busy mall.
Accessible seating in theaters often only has room for one companion, so we sit in separate rows or further apart from one another. On occasion, an entire building or part of a building is just completely inaccessible, so we split up or pass on an activity we planned to enjoy because we literally can’t get everyone in the door.
Many people assume that tending to my son’s day-to-day needs is the hardest part of being his caregiver. But finding resources and places that will include him is the real challenge. Disney World is one of the few, if not the only place, where everyone in my family feels equally important. Now that my son has successfully ridden his first roller coaster, I would love for him to go on the same types of rides at an amusement park in the local community, but I know it’s not an option. For now, anyway, I’m holding our recent experience close to my heart.
24.Why was the experience at Disney special for the author’s son
A.He was permitted to ride a roller coaster.
B.It was his first trip to an amusement park.
C.He was allowed to go on rides independently.
D.It was his first vacation with his entire family.
25.Which of the following best describes Disney World
A.Romantic. B.Popular. C.Inclusive. D.Secure.
26.Why does the author mention theaters in the fifth paragraph
A.To criticize the limited space of theaters.
B.To stress the importance of theaters to the disabled.
C.To complain about the lack of accessible seating in public.
D.To illustrate accessibility barriers in public that separate her family.
27.What does the author find most difficult when caring for her son
A.Managing her son’s daily needs.
B.Balancing her son and the rest of her family.
C.Finding disability-friendly places and activities.
D.Persuading his son to fit into the local community.
【答案】24.A 25.C 26.D 27.C
根据第一段“This spring break, my 12-year-old disabled son rode his first roller coaster. He had so much fun! (今年春假,我12岁的残疾儿子第一次坐过山车。他玩得很开心!)”以及第二段“Disney World is one of the only mainstream amusement parks that will let my son go on rides. He has cerebral palsy (脑瘫) and is unable to sit independently. Because of his disabilities, most parks won’t let him go on their roller coasters. (迪士尼世界是少数几个允许我儿子乘坐游乐设施的主流游乐园之一。他患有脑瘫,无法独立坐稳。由于残疾,大多数游乐园都不让他坐过山车)”可知,作者儿子在迪士尼的经历之所以特别,是因为他被允许乘坐过山车,而这是在其他大多数游乐园无法实现的。故选A项。
根据第二段“Disney World is one of the only mainstream amusement parks that will let my son go on rides. He has cerebral palsy (脑瘫) and is unable to sit independently. Because of his disabilities, most parks won’t let him go on their roller coasters. (迪士尼世界是少数几个允许我儿子乘坐游乐设施的主流游乐园之一。他患有脑瘫,无法独立坐稳。由于残疾,大多数游乐园都不让他坐过山车)”以及倒数第二段“Disney World is one of the few, if not the only place, where everyone in my family feels equally important. (迪士尼世界即使不是唯一,也是少数几个能让我们全家每个人都感到自己同等重要的地方)”可推断,迪士尼世界对残疾人士具有包容性,能够接纳不同身体状况的游客参与游乐活动。故选C项。
26.推理判断题。根据第三段“The experience at Disney was special for my son, but also special for the rest of my family of five. Splitting up (分开) is something we encounter daily. (在迪士尼的经历对我儿子来说很特别,对我们五口之家的其他成员来说也很特别。分离是我们每天都会遇到的事情)”可知,“家人分离”是作者一家日常面临的问题,后文通过列举“建筑物无障碍入口偏远导致分离”“寻找电梯时分离”等例子展开说明,第五段提到“ Accessible seating in theaters often only has room for one companion, so we sit in separate rows or further apart from one another. (剧院的无障碍座位通常只能容纳一名陪同人员,因此我们要么坐在不同排,要么彼此隔得更远。)”,这也是“家人分离”的具体场景之一,目的是举例说明公共场合中因无障碍设施问题导致作者一家不得不分离的障碍,核心是通过剧院的例子佐证家庭分离的困境。故选D项。
27.细节理解题。根据最后一段“Many people assume that tending to my son’s day-to-day needs is the hardest part of being his caregiver. But finding resources and places that will include him is the real challenge. (很多人认为,照顾儿子的日常需求是作为看护者最困难的部分。但找到能接纳他的资源和场所才是真正的挑战)”可知,作者认为照顾儿子过程中最困难的是寻找对残疾人友好的场所和活动。故选C项。

New era requires a new vocabulary. Will we still talk about the “mobile” phone when all phones are mobile, or when they are implanted within us
Technology is everywhere nowadays, especially at work. Some people are really good at using all the cool new tools that keep popping up. They have something called a TQ, or technology quotient. Think of it like a superpower for understanding the latest tech stuff that our great-grandparents would have found really impossible. Having a high TQ means you’re awesome at using all the cool new things that not everyone knows about yet.
The examples are common and becoming more and more frequent. For the parent it might be a home-school video class. For the brand manager it might be search engine boosting. And for the clinician, it might be the role of artificial intelligence in supporting the analysis of a CT scan. TQ attempts to quantify our ability to make sensible use of current technologies and to quickly adapt, embrace and capitalize on future creations. This adoption is critical from a variety of perspectives, from social to business. One trip into the world of ChatGPT and we can see how the dynamics of AI and search are changing for just about everyone.
Any Mom or Dad can understand the value of IQ and EQ in projecting the potential for a child’s success. But what about technology The ability for the child and the teacher to understand, embrace and assimilate technology will be a defining aspect of their lives as we speed into the future. We are increasingly defined by technology and our active participation in everything from smart phones to Facebook. It might just be time for the basic human needs of food, water and shelter to incorporate technology too. And when that happens, it just might be a good idea to measure it.
While this shift brings challenges, it’s unstoppable. As TQ rises, it will combine with IQ and EQ, reshaping how we live, work, and learn — turning adaptability with tech into a measurable edge.
28.What is TQ according to the text
A.Speed of learning new languages. B.Skill of fixing high-tech products.
C.Talent to follow modern changes. D.Ability to apply new technologies.
29.Which of the following people has a high TQ
A.A manager who often uses modern search engines.
B.A doctor who analyzes CT scans with AI assistance.
C.A grandparent who finds new tech devices awkward.
D.A mom who watches videos of her child’s school life.
30.What does the underlined word “assimilate” in the fourth paragraph mean
A.Rely on. B.Take in. C.Benefit from. D.Learn about.
31.What might be the best title for the passage
A.Why Are IQ and EQ Important for TQ
B.How Has TQ Changed in the Modern Era
C.What Makes TQ the New Intelligence
D.Where to Start Adapting to TQ Changes
根据第二段“Think of it like a superpower for understanding the latest tech stuff that our great-grandparents would have found really impossible. Having a high TQ means you’re awesome at using all the cool new things that not everyone knows about yet. (可以把它看作是一种理解最新科技事物的超能力,这些事物对于我们的曾祖父母来说简直是难以想象的。拥有高技术商数(TQ)意味着你非常擅长使用那些并非所有人都已了解的酷炫新事物)”以及第三段“TQ attempts to quantify our ability to make sensible use of current technologies and to quickly adapt, embrace and capitalize on future creations. (TQ试图量化我们合理使用现有技术、快速适应、接纳并利用未来创新的能力)”可知,TQ是应用新技术的能力。故选D项。
29.细节理解题。根据第三段“For the brand manager it might be search engine boosting. And for the clinician, it might be the role of artificial intelligence in supporting the analysis of a CT scan. TQ attempts to quantify our ability to make sensible use of current technologies and to quickly adapt, embrace and capitalize on future creations. (对于品牌经理而言,这可能是搜索引擎优化;而对于临床医生来说,这可能是人工智能在辅助CT扫描分析中所发挥的作用。技术商数(TQ)试图量化我们合理运用现有技术的能力,以及快速适应、接纳并利用未来创新成果的能力)”可知,借助人工智能分析CT扫描的医生是在合理使用现有技术,具备高TQ。故选B项。
30.词句猜测题。根据第四段“The ability for the child and the teacher to understand, embrace and assimilate technology will be a defining aspect of their lives as we speed into the future. (随着我们快速走向未来,孩子和老师理解、接纳并assimilate技术的能力将是他们生活的一个决定性方面)”可知,“understand (理解)”“embrace (接纳)”与“assimilate”为并列关系,结合语境,此处应表示对技术的吸收、掌握,“take in”有“吸收、理解”之意,与之意思相近。故选B项。
31.主旨大意题。根据第一段“New era requires a new vocabulary. Will we still talk about the “mobile” phone when all phones are mobile, or when they are implanted within us (新时代需要新的词汇。当所有的手机都具备移动功能,或者当手机被植入我们体内时,我们还会说“移动”电话吗?)”并结合全文内容可知,文章开篇指出新时代需要新词汇,引出“技术商数(TQ)”,接着解释了TQ的定义、具体体现,还提到它与IQ、EQ结合会重塑人们的生活等,整体围绕TQ作为一种新的能力(智慧)展开,探讨了是什么让TQ成为新的智慧。C项符合文章大意,适合用作标题,故选C项。

GitHub is going multi-model for its Copilot code completion and programming tool Developers will soon be able to choose models from Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI for GitHub Copilot. GitHub is also announcing Spark, an AI tool for building web apps, and updates to GitHub Copilot in VS Code, Copilot for Xcode, and more at its GitHub Universe conference today.
GitHub Copilot users on the web or VS Code can select Claude 3.5, with Gemini 1.5 Pro in the coming weeks. OpenAI’s GPT-4o, ol-preview, and ol-mini models will also be available in GitHub Copilot soon. Developers will be able to toggle (切换) between models during a conversation with Copilot Chat to find the model that’s best for a particular task.
“There is no one model to rule every scenario (场景), and developers expect the agency to build with the models that work best for them,” says GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke. “It is clear the next phase of AI code generation will not only be defined by multi-model functionality, but by multi-model choice.”
Microsoft-owned GitHub was the first to launch its AI tool called Copilot in 2021, ahead of Microsoft’s push to make Copilot the center of its AI efforts. It was the first major result of Microsoft’s initial $1 billion investment into OpenAI, and GitHub Copilot now has more than 1.8 million paid subscribers. It will be interesting to see if Microsoft adopts GitHub’ s multi-model approach and opens up its own Copilot AI assistant to models from rivals like Google and Anthropic.
GitHub is also announcing Spark today, an AI tool that makes it easier to build web apps using natural language. An initial prompt (初始提示) uses OpenAI and Anthropic models to produce live previews of what the web app will look like, and GitHub Spark users can compare versions as they make changes. GitHub Spark lets experienced developers directly manage code, while beginners can create a web app entirely using natural language.
Once the app is created, you can run it on a desktop, tablet, or mobile device and also share the app with others to let people remix and build on top of Spark apps. GitHub Spark is part of GitHub’s vision (愿景) to get to 1 billion developers. “For too long, there has been a barrier of entry separating a vast majority of the world’s population from building software,” says Dohnke. “With Spark, we will enable over one billion personal computer and mobile phone users to build and share their own micro apps directly on GitHub.”
GitHub is also announcing more updates to Copilot at its GitHub Universe today. Multi-file edit for GitHub Copilot in VS Code is arriving on November 1st, allowing users to make edits across multiple files at the same time using Copilot Chat. Copilot Extensions will also be available in early 2025, GitHub Copilot for Xcode enters public preview, and Copilot now has a new code review capability.

Are you feeling overwhelmed with too many tasks and not enough time 36 After extensive research and trial of various techniques, I’ve pulled together a series of strategies that will help you take control of your days.
Know how you spend your time. Keeping track of your time is crucial for effective management. 37 Surprisingly, even minor activities can become significant time consumers when added up. Conducting a simple time audit (审计) helps you find these hidden black holes in your schedule, which might be taking precious moments away from more critical tasks. You need to write down what you’re doing at regular intervals (间隙) in the day for about a week or two.
38 Determining what tasks are most important and need to be done first ensures that your time and energy are focused on the right things. 39 Once you have a clear vision of what you’re aiming for, it becomes easier to determine which tasks fit with those goals. It’s also important to consider deadlines and the impact each task will have on your overall productivity to make sure that you’re spending your precious time on tasks that truly matter and will bring you closer to reaching your objectives.
Use a planning tool. 40 By using a task manager or planner, you can easily track your goals, set deadlines, and break down tasks into smaller steps. This allows you to create a clear roadmap for what needs to be accomplished and helps prevent overwhelm. As a result, you can confidently manage your time and achieve greater productivity in both your personal and professional life.
Give it a shot and prepare yourself for an exciting journey toward better productivity and less stress!

Situated in Datong City, Shanxi Province, China, the Yungang Grottoes are made up of old Buddhist caves and are one of China’s four famous grottoes.
People started carving these caves, 56 (approximate) 1,500 years ago. Emperors and 57 (noble) from the Northern Wei Dynasty built them with the hope that Buddha statues would bring peace to the country and happiness to people. This monumental artistic undertaking 58 (last) about 150 years to make 59 we see today.
The grottoes contain 45 major caves 60 (house) over 50,000 Buddha statues, 61 vary greatly in size. Featuring delicate paintings and sculptures, these artworks not only demonstrate remarkable beauty but also provide valuable insights into the lifestyles and 62 (religion) beliefs of ancient people.
The way the Yungang Grottoes are built is really cool. Most of the caves 63 (carve) into cliffs made of sandstone. Even though some caves are a bit worn 64 from the weather, they serve as powerful evidence of the extraordinary skill possessed by the craftsmen of the era.
65 (recognize) for their outstanding historical, artistic, and cultural value, the Yungang Grottoes were classified as a Key National Protected Cultural Site in 1961. Subsequently, UNESCO listed them as a World Heritage Site in 2001, acknowledging their status as a priceless treasure of global significance.
56.approximately 57.nobles 58.lasted 59.what 60.housing 61.which 62.religious 63.are carved 64.out 65.Recognized
故填what。
故填which。
故填are carved。
故填 out。

On the street, I watched the elderly woman struggle with a walker, loaded down with bags of groceries. I’d seen her before, each time feeling guilty I didn’t offer her a lift. This day, I stopped and led her into the car.
“Bless you, child,” she said. She directed me to go farther south. It seemed too far for her to walk everyday. She explained that she usually took a bus but had missed the last one. Gradually, it got dark, and I began to feel uneasy. We continued down unfamiliar streets until she finally pointed to an old apartment building where she lived. Several rowdy (粗鲁的) young men in their early twenties had gathered around the entrance. They were smoking something and appeared threatening. Some were on motorcycles, and one, wearing a hoodie (连帽衫) over his bushy, long hair, was staring at me intently — too intently — and smiling.
I felt uncomfortable, but the woman seemed fine. I stopped the car and helped with her cart and groceries. She thanked me, and I drove away as fast as I could.
Half an hour later, back on the road I knew, I turned on the radio and played some familiar music. Suddenly the peaceful atmosphere was interrupted by the roar of a motorcycle behind me. Slowing down, I was hoping he would pass me. I recognized the biker from the apartment house—the one with the hoodie and bushy hair who kept smiling at me familiarly. He didn’t pass me but continued to drive at the same speed as me. I realized he was waving for me to stop.
Outside, it was pitch-dark. No way was I going to stop on a deserted street. I tried to speed away as fast as I could, but it didn’t stop him. He raced after me again. Getting increasingly anxious, I tried to use the phone to call 911. With my eyes on the road, one hand on the wheel and the other hand searching on the seat next to me for my purse, I felt an empty seat. My purse wasn’t there!
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
Paragraph 1:
Looking back again, through the rearview mirror (后视镜), I finally saw it — the person was waving with something I recognized.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph2:
Seeing the note in the purse, emotional tears welled up in my eyes.

Looking back again, through the rearview mirror (后视镜), I finally saw it — the person was waving with something I recognized. It was my purse! In my haste to help the elderly woman, I must have left it on the roof of the car. The biker, despite his intimidating appearance, had chased me down just to return it. My heart pounded with guilt and relief as I pulled over. He approached slowly, still smiling, and handed me the purse through the window. “You dropped this, miss,” he said kindly, his voice gentle and respectful. I apologized for misjudging him and thanked him sincerely. He simply nodded, turned his motorcycle around, and rode off into the night, leaving me with a powerful lesson about appearances and kindness. When I got back in the car to check my wallet, I found a small note.
Seeing the note in the purse, emotional tears welled up in my eyes. Tucked inside was a small, folded piece of paper with a message written in shaky handwriting: “Thank you for your kindness today. The world needs more people like you. — The old lady you helped.” I realized then that the biker must have been her grandson or someone close to her, watching over her. What I had seen as a threat was actually a gesture of care. That night, I drove home with a full heart, reminded that kindness often comes from the most unexpected places.

B

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
Paragraph 1:
Looking back again, through the rearview mirror (后视镜), I finally saw it — the person was waving with something I recognized.

Paragraph2:
Seeing the note in the purse, emotional tears welled up in my eyes.
