【答案】18.C 19.A 20.C
Many people ask me where my inspiration comes from, or how I’ve managed to write a book every year for the last 20 years. Since you all wish to be writers, I will share these so-called secrets, but I’ll answer the second one first. How do I write so many books It’s easy to answer. I see writing as a job. Many writers start writing because they love reading, not because they love writing. When you are working on a project, you have targets to hit along the way. So just imagine that your book is a project at work. You know roughly how many words long it will be. Let’s say 100,000 words. If you write 1000 a day, you will finish your book in just over three months. It is not difficult to write 1000 words. Most of you have written university papers four or five times that length. You can write more than 1000 words a day. As long as you write at least 1000 words a day, you will have a book written in no time. Well, back to the first question — where did I get my ideas The answer is everywhere. I read newspapers and magazines. I spend lots of time on social media and that’s where a lot of my ideas come from. Our world is full of stories, and when you find one that you feel strongly about, that’s what you should write about.

Somewhere my acquaintance with the computer started when I was working on my thesis. I was initiated into it, quite unintentionally, when I was looking for a convenient way to store my research material. I have since been busy communicating with my readers and students through the net. I can hardly believe it myself that a technophobe like me could somehow get engaged with the most modern technology!
Our son has left for university and our spoilt daughter has gone overseas. Since they left home the net has become the best way for our family to communicate and share our feelings.
We started off sending messages by email only -just to say hello, to seek help and to caution. Messages such as: “Please have a look at this email. I can’t open it. “Or, one that I sent to my daughter says: “So you rang to say you’d lost your credit card. The very thing that I’ve been worrying about! If you don’t try hard to mend your careless ways, you’ll wake up one morning and find that you’ve lost your brain as well.”
And my son’s messages are typical in their sensational (耸人听闻的) headings, such as “Help me please!” “Help again, please!” They are always about money, no different from the notes he left when he was young. My daughter, on the other hand, would persuade her elder brother like a grand old lady: “Don’t upset Mum when I’m not home. Go back to see Mum and Dad every now and then. They’ve only got you and me.”
Recently, our son has been emailing me all kinds of articles: funny, touching, intellectual… the lot. Recommended reading, he said, would help me understand my students’ ideas and keep abreast of the times, so I wouldn’t be written off as over-the-hill too soon. I read the articles religiously, like a well-behaved pupil. I appreciate my son’s good will with mixed feelings. The kid I was bombarding with newspaper clippings not that long ago has now become my mentor! He must be thinking that his mother is still willing to embrace new ideas. That makes me feel proud, despite the confusing sense of role reversal that I have.
Through the net, we chat, exchange ideas and encourage each other with a gentle and beautiful language we seldom use. Every time I sit in front of the computer and read those instant messages, I feel family warmth welling up in my heart and a profound gratitude to modern technology.
24.The author got acquainted with the net initially to ________.
A.keep pace with the times B.communicate with her readers
C.meet academic needs D.exchange ideas with her children
25.Why did the author mention so many messages in paragraph 3
A.To show her daughter’s immaturity. B.To indicate the net’s influence on her.
C.To blame her daughter’s carelessness. D.To express her love for her children.
26.Which of the following can best describe the author in the son’s eyes
A.Open-minded. B.Well-educated. C.Well-behaved. D.Old-fashioned.
27.Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A.It is the Power of the Net B.Technology Changes Life
C.Here Comes an Internet Mum D.Mum’s Role Changes
【答案】24.C 25.B 26.A 27.C
根据文章第一段“Somewhere my acquaintance with the computer started when I was working on my thesis. I was initiated into it, quite unintentionally, when I was looking for a convenient way to store my research material. (我对电脑的了解是从写论文开始的。我是在无意中开始接触它的,当时我正在寻找一种方便的方式来存储我的研究资料。)”可知,作者最初接触网络是为了满足撰写论文、储存研究资料的学术需求。故选C项。
25.推理判断题。根据文章第二段“Since they left home the net has become the best way for our family to communicate and share our feelings. (自从他们离开家后,网络成了我们家人沟通和分享感受的最佳方式。)”以及最后一段“Through the net, we chat, exchange ideas and encourage each other with a gentle and beautiful language we seldom use. Every time I sit in front of the computer and read those instant messages, I feel family warmth welling up in my heart and a profound gratitude to modern technology.
根据倒数第二段“Recommended reading, he said, would help me understand my students’ ideas and keep abreast of the times, so I wouldn’t be written off as over-the-hill too soon. I read the articles religiously, like an well-behaved pupil. I appreciate my son’s good will with mixed feelings. The kid I was bombarding with newspaper clippings not that long ago has now become my mentor! He must be thinking that his mother is still willing to embrace new ideas. That makes me feel proud, despite the confusing sense of role reversal that I have. 故选A项。
根据第一段“Somewhere my acquaintance with the computer started when I was working on my thesis. I was initiated into it, quite unintentionally, when I was looking for a convenient way to store my research material. (我对电脑的了解是从写论文开始的。我是在无意中开始接触它的,当时我正在寻找一种方便的方式来存储我的研究资料。)”、第二段“Since they left home the net has become the best way for our family to communicate and share our feelings. (自从他们离开家后,网络成了我们家人沟通和分享感受的最佳方式。)”、倒数第二段“Recommended reading, he said, would help me understand my students’ ideas and keep abreast of the times, so I wouldn’t be written off as over-the-hill too soon. (他说,这些推荐阅读的文章能帮我理解学生们的想法,还能让我跟上时代步伐,这样我就不会太早被认为是“过气的人”了。我像个听话的学生一样,认真地读着这些文章。我怀着复杂的心情感激儿子的这份好意。不久前还被我灌输各种剪报的小家伙,现在居然成了我的导师!他一定觉得,妈妈仍然愿意接受新观念。尽管这种角色反转让我有些困惑,但这也让我感到自豪。)”以及最后一段“Through the net, we chat, exchange ideas and encourage each other with a gentle and beautiful language we seldom use. Every time I sit in front of the computer and read those instant messages, I feel family warmth welling up in my heart and a profound gratitude to modern technology.( 通过网络,我们聊天、交流想法,还会用一种平日里很少使用的温柔而美好的语言互相鼓励。
C
Forgetting things is a blessing, believe it or not. For proof, imagine a world where every detail you ever came across was carved indelibly in your mind. Every conversation you regret, every rejection you’ve ever felt, every time you stepped out with your zipper undone stands as clearly in your mind as what you had for breakfast last week as well as the moments that bring you the greatest joy. That is a world of utter chaos and suffering.
We don’t need to stick to just our armchair-philosophizing, however. Thanks to the wonderful combinatory magic genetics pulls off at each birth, we’ve had a few individuals on Earth who are unable to forget anything. Solomon Shereshevsky, for instance, could memorize lists of arbitrary (任意的) numbers, words, and nonsense syllables with perfect recall, even decades later. At first glance, this sounds like a superpower. But Shereshevsky described it as exhausting, distracting, and emotionally unbearable.
What most miss about forgetting is that it is not a design flaw (缺陷). It’s a feature. In fact, the ability to forget is fundamental to learning. It’s what gives us focus, highlights the signal through the noise, and lets the brain determine what matters most given the context we are in.
Research suggests that forgetting is an active process involving brain regions like the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex, which help us manage the inflow and outflow of information. Forgetting is not our memory failing on us as much as it is our memory being better used.
And here is where we meet the concept of the forgetting curve (曲线). First described by Hermann Ebbinghaus in the late 19th century, the forgetting curve tracks how quickly we lose information over time without reinforcement (巩固). Within hours of learning something new, we begin to forget it. Rapidly at first, then more slowly over time. The key insight of those who have followed Ebbinghaus is that this curve is not fixed. On the contrary, it’s something we can reshape, a feature we can tune ourselves.
28.What does the underlined word “indelibly” in the first paragraph mean
A.Permanently. B.Violently. C.Chaotically. D.Effortlessly.
29.What did Shereshevsky think of his ability
A.A design flaw. B.A real blessing. C.A mental burden. D.A rare talent.
30.How does forgetting contribute to learning
A.It prevents the flow of information.
B.It pushes people to review regularly.
C.It activates brain regions responsible for learning.
D.It allows the brain to prioritize important information.
31.What does the author suggest readers do in the last paragraph
A.Keep learning new things. B.Intervene in the forgetting process.
C.Accept forgetting as a natural part of life. D.Explore a fixed pattern of the forgetting curve.
【答案】28.A 29.C 30.D 31.B
根据划线词上文“Forgetting things is a blessing, believe it or not.(别不信,遗忘事物其实是一种福气)”提到能够遗忘是一件幸事,划线词所在句子以及下文是提供支撑性证据,论证“遗忘是一件幸事”这一观点;结合下文“Every conversation you regret, every rejection you’ve ever felt, every time you stepped out with your zipper undone stands as clearly in your mind as what you had for breakfast last week as well as the moments that bring you the greatest joy. That is a world of utter chaos and suffering.(每一次让你懊悔的交谈,每一次你所经历的被拒绝的时刻,每一次你未系好拉链就出门的举动,都清晰地印刻在你的脑海中,就如同你上周早餐吃了什么一样,也包括那些给你带来最大快乐的时刻。那是一个充满混乱与痛苦的世界)”可知,此处是作者让读者想象一个所有遇到的细节都无法遗忘的世界、一切都永远被刻在脑海里的世界,那将是充满混乱和痛苦的世界。故划线词indelibly意思是“永久地”。故选A项。
根据第二段“At first glance, this sounds like a superpower. But Shereshevsky described it as exhausting, distracting, and emotionally unbearable.(乍一看,这听起来像是某种超能力。但舍雷舍夫斯基却称其令人精疲力竭、分心不已,而且情绪上难以承受)”可知,谢雷舍夫斯基认为他的能力是一种精神负担。故选C项。
30.推理判断题。根据第三段“It’s what gives us focus, highlights the signal through the noise, and lets the brain determine what matters most given the context we are in.(正是它让我们能够集中注意力,帮助我们从杂乱的信息中提取出关键信息,并让大脑根据我们所处的环境来确定哪些才是最重要的)”可知,遗忘能让大脑优先处理重要的信息。故选D项。
根据最后一段“On the contrary, it’s something we can reshape, a feature we can tune ourselves.(相反,这并非是无法改变的固定状态,而是我们能够加以调整、能够自行塑造的特性)”可知,作者建议读者参与遗忘过程。故选B项。
D
Wildfires are becoming increasingly common due to hotter and drier climates around the world. Until now, firefighters have had to rely on satellite imagery that’s either low-resolution or only updated a few times a day, not to mention spotting small fires. Google Research has teamed up with leaders in the fire community to create FireSat — a purpose-built constellation (星座) of satellites designed specifically to detect and track wildfires as small as a classroom. With FireSat, authorities will have high-resolution imagery that is updated globally every 20 minutes, helping them respond to fires before they become destructive.
Using AI, FireSat will rapidly compare any 5×5-meter spot on earth with previous imagery, while also combining factors like nearby infrastructure (基础设施) and local weather, to determine if there’s a fire. To check our detection model for smaller fires and establish a baseline dataset for the AI, we flew the sensors over controlled burns. Google Research team has cooperated with Muon Space to achieve this breakthrough. Muon Space launched the first satellite in early 2025, with the full constellation to follow in the coming years.
Once launched, FireSat will provide near real-time information about the location, size and intensity of early-stage wildfires so firefighters and emergency responders can respond quickly and effectively. In addition to supporting emergency response efforts, FireSat’s data will be used to create a global historical record of fire spread, helping Google and scientists to better model and understand wildfire spread.
This will expand our existing work on fire simulation (模拟) in partnership with scientists in the U. S. Forest Service. This project is the latest addition to Google Research’s ongoing efforts to help communities around the world address the impacts of climate change. Since 2020, we’ve used AI models to surface warnings and features that provide helpful information to people who are near a wildfire through wildfire boundary tracking, which is now available in over 20 countries. Earlier, we also released FireBench, an open-source ML benchmark dataset for wildfire research.
32.What is the drawback of the previous satellite imagery
A.It is updated once every few months.
B.It cannot detect minor or small fires.
C.It cannot assess the severity of fires.
D.It is designed for military purposes.
33.What will FireSat do to boost its effectiveness
A.Study past fire frequency. B.Monitor human activities.
C.Identify controlled burns. D.Check mixed information.
34.What can FireSat do to help scientists
A.Show wildfire behavior modes. B.Predict wildfire spread routes.
C.Explore causes behind wildfires. D.Record firefighters’ responses to dangers.
35.What is the function of the last paragraph
A.To detail fire detection history.
B.To inform Google’s new plans.
C.To extend project connections.
D.To stress FireSat’s leading role.
【答案】32.B 33.D 34.A 35.C
根据第一段的“Until now, firefighters have had to rely on satellite imagery that’s either low-resolution or only updated a few times a day, not to mention spotting small fires. (迄今为止,消防员不得不依赖低分辨率的卫星图像,或者每天仅更新几次的卫星图像,更不用说发现小火点了。)”可知,消防员不得不依靠低分辨率的卫星图像来监测火灾,这类卫星图像每天只更新几次,更不用指望它能发现小火灾了。说明原有卫星图像的缺陷是无法检测小型火灾。故选B。
33.细节理解题。第二段中的“Using AI, FireSat will rapidly compare any 5×5-meter spot on earth with previous imagery, while also combining factors like nearby infrastructure and local weather, to determine if there’s a fire. (利用人工智能技术,FireSat能够迅速将地球上任意5×5米区域与之前的图像进行对比,同时结合附近基础设施和当地天气等因素,以判断是否存在火灾。)”,说明FireSat通过对比历史图像并结合附近基础设施、当地天气等多种信息来工作,即通过整合混合信息来提升效率。故选D。
34.细节理解题。根据第三段中的“In addition to supporting emergency response efforts, FireSat’s data will be used to create a global historical record of fire spread, helping Google and scientists to better model and understand wildfire spread. (除了支持应急响应工作外,FireSat的数据还将用于创建全球火灾蔓延的历史记录,帮助谷歌和科学家更好地模拟和理解野火蔓延的情况。)”可知, FireSat的数据将被用来创建火灾蔓延的全球历史记录,帮助谷歌和科学家更好地模拟和理解野火蔓延的方式,说明它可以帮助深入了解野火的行为模式。故选A。
根据最后一段“This will expand our existing work on fire simulation (模拟) in partnership with scientists in the U.
Finding My True Path
My journey began with struggle. After graduating with psychology and art degrees, I expected to become a psychologist or artist. 36 Holding two degrees, I realized I was exhausted from forcing myself into roles that never fit — like wearing shoes two sizes too small.
37 I came to accept my stress limits after repeated burnout. Albert Einstein’s words hit hard: expecting different results from repeated failures is unwise. I stopped wasting energy on unsustainable paths I didn’t truly want. My compass reset: Only pursue what I can sustain and truly value.
It was during this period of reflection that a long-buried passion quietly resurfaced — writing. When I shared this with Elena, an artist friend, her eyes lit up. “True passion turns discipline into joy, never duty.” she emphasized. 38 I realized true passion is written in the soul; when accepted, regular practice flows naturally, becoming the true path to mastery.
Fueled by this clarity, I took concrete steps. I carved out precious, daily writing time, starting small and manageable. 39 Then came the real test: when a high-paying job demanded overtime that would steal my writing time, I firmly declined. It wasn’t sacrifice (牺牲); it was claiming my truth. I wrote with focus I never knew in offices.
Making space for what mattered transformed everything. Regular writing brought peace and direction. Though money remains a necessity, working with passion unlocks hidden doors within. Purpose isn’t found in distant dreams. 40 When you swim in the right direction, the stream of life will carry you where you’re meant to be.
A.These words struck me deeply.
B.This requires exceptional talent.
C.It grows through daily chosen actions.
D.Years of exhaustion became my wake-up call.
E.I landed a dream job as a school mental health adviser.
F.This meant a daily routine of putting down 500 words.
G.The reality was years of bouncing from one office job to another.

故填on或upon。

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to share my thoughts regarding the upcoming Problem-Solving Workshop. This initiative is truly commendable as it will provide students with valuable support in addressing both academic and personal challenges.
To make the workshop more effective, I would like to suggest implementing a peer mentoring system where experienced senior students can guide their juniors. Additionally, organizing regular theme-based sessions focusing on common student concerns such as exam stress or time management would be highly beneficial. To encourage wider participation, we could also introduce an anonymous problem submission box to help shy students voice their concerns comfortably.
I sincerely hope these suggestions will be helpful. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

My husband and I enjoy seeing life through the eyes of our children. It’s amazing to watch as they discover their world.
While we were outdoors last summer enjoying the sunshine, our oldest daughter, Kaytlin, called me to the doorway. Beneath the steps was a baby red squirrel.
We watched it from a distance, not wanting to disturb it or scare off its mother. But after a long wait—and looking all around our house for signs of a nest or a mother—we realized the tiny squirrel was lost.
Shaking terribly, he was weak, thin, and hungry. We tried to find an expert to help, but the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife website showed that there were no wildlife experts in our area. After some quick research, we concluded that the best way to give the squirrel a fighting chance was to care for him ourselves. So a trip to the local store for milk and supplies was in order. More research taught us how much to feed him, how to estimate his age, how and when to wean (断奶) him, and that we should let him go as soon as he could survive on his own.
Our daughters and I took turns in feeding “Squirt.” Kaytlin took on the most responsibility. She taught him to eat from a bottle, and she woke in the night for his feeds.
To our relief, Squirt soon became healthy and strong. Within a few weeks he became more active. He would chatter (吱吱叫) for his next meal, playfully go around the girls, and lie down on them for sleep. It wasn’t long before he was weaned onto solid food and reintroduced to the wild.
His first few visits to the great outdoors were funny. Just like a child, he would play in the grass some and then run back to Kaytlin for safety. Soon she had him climbing trees and finding nest material.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels.

One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels. But the family was none too happy about his visit. They scolded and swatted at him. At first Squirt was so unhappy that he avoided them. And then he quickly learned some social skills. He would take some snacks to meet them. For several days he played all day in the trees surrounding our house but came down at bedtime.
One night, Squirt didn’t come back to our house and it rained hard. Our girls fretted. They wanted to seek Squirt. We prevented them because it was too dangerous. But when the sun rose the next day, there was Squirt, begging for food. And that remained the pattern for weeks. The experience was entertaining and heartwarming for our family. In the wild and somewhat silly moments of raising an orphaned baby squirrel, our children learned to value and appreciate life.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels.
