Margie’s classroom was right next to her bedroom. Her teacher was a machine. It was on and waiting for her. The screen was lit up. The machine said: "Today's lesson is on maths. Please put yesterday's homework in the opening."

2 It was a very old book. They turned the old, yellow pages. It was strange to read the words. They stood still on the pages, instead of moving across a screen,
3“What a waste!” said Tommy. “When you finish the book, you just throw it away, I guess. Our television screen must have a million books on it! I wouldn’t throw it away.

7 “Because it’s an old kind of school, from hundreds of years ago. They had a teacher, but it was a person. There was a special building, and all the kids and teachers went there.
8 Margie wanted to read about those funny schools. But her mother called, “Margie! School!”
9 Margie’s classroom was right next to her bedroom. Her teacher was a machine. It was on and waiting for her, The screen was lit up. The machine said:“Today’s lesson is on maths. Please put yesterday’s homework in the opening.
10 Margie did so sadly. She was thinking about the old schools. All the kids from the neighborhood came,and laughed and shouted in the playground. They sat together in the classroom, and went home together after school.
11 And the teachers were people.
12 Margie was thinking about how the students must have loved school in the old days. She was thinking about the fun they had.

动词不定式作宾语补足语
在上一个单元,我们学习了动词不定式作宾语的功能,那么,动词不定式的语法功能还有哪些呢 首先请看下面的句子:
She asked her roommate to turn down the music.
她请室友把音乐关小一些。
The World Wide Fund for Nature (VWF) chose the panda to be
its symbol. 世界自然基金会选择了大熊猫(形象)作为其标志。
动词不定式作宾语补足语
通过以上句子,我们可以发现动词不定式的另外一种语法功能:在“动词+宾语+动词不定式”的结构中充当宾语的补足语。
以上例句中的不定式都作宾语补足语,是对宾语的补充说明。例如句子(1)中her roommate作ask的宾语,to turn down the music作宾语her roommate的补足语。
动词不定式作宾语补足语
可以用于"动词+宾语+动词不定式"这一结构的动词有很多,常见的有:want, tell, ask, invite, help, allow, choose等。
They want the project to be finished by Friday.
他们希望项目周五前完成。
The teacher asked the students to hand in their homework.
老师让学生们交作业。
动词不定式作宾语补足语
以上动词后接不定式作宾语补足语时,若要表达否定的意思,要在to do前加not,构成not to do的形式。
Mr. Han told us not to make too much noise.
韩先生告诉我们不要弄出太大声音。
Jackie told me not to touch anything.
Jackie告诉我不要碰任何东西。
动词不定式作宾语补足语
有些动词后接不定式作宾语补足语时,要将to省略,常见的这类动词有:make, let, have, hear, feel, see等。

His words made everyone laugh.
