After bikes and umbrellas are made sharable across China, some companies started eyeing the fitness market, so shared gym rooms have hit the streets in Beijing.
Unlike common gyms that provide large, open spaces for many members to share at the same time, the newly built shared gym rooms are small, stand-alone (独立的) rooms for a person to use, often set up near living communities.
Every four-square-meter room provides a treadmill (跑步机), an air cleaner, a mirror, a television and an air conditioner, and users can let down the curtains (窗帘) for privacy. When exercising, users can listen to music, watch movies and check emails by connecting to the Internet by the screen fixed on the treadmill. But there’s no shower.
Similar to using a shared bike, users can locate (定位) a shared gym room by a smartphone app, book a room ahead of schedule and then need to scan a QR code (二维码) for use. A refundable deposit (保证金) of 99 yuan is required, and users are charged 1 yuan every 5 minutes.
The shared gym rooms are created by Misspao, a Beijing-based technology company founded in July. Within several months since it was founded, the company has already raised over 100 million yuan. However, the idea of the shared fitness experience is not totally nascent. Last December, the company VRUN set up shared treadmills in office and apartment buildings.
The sharing economy is still becoming popular in China. According to Yicai Global, confident people are pouring millions into sharing start-ups. In March, the State Information Center published a report which predicts that the total value of China’s sharing economy will see a yearly growth of 40% in the coming years, and it is expected to make a great contribution to the country’s GDP.
24.What makes the shared gym room different from the common one
A.Holding one person at a time. B.Standing in the living zone.
C.Offering open spaces. D.Having some advanced equipment.
25.What do people need to do to use the shared gym room
A.Let down curtains for privacy.
B.Pay 100 yuan first.
C.Use a smartphone to book a room ahead of time.
D.Have a shower before exercise.

A.Simple. B.Popular. C.Satisfying. D.New.
27.What is the author’s purpose of writing the text
A.To advertise a technology company. B.To introduce shared gym rooms.
C.To support the shared gym rooms. D.To point out the weaknesses of shared gym rooms.

Commuting to and from work can be a nightmare. Cars advance slowly in stop and go traffic, crawling from one traffic jam at stoplights to the next. At peak rush hour especially, there is no chance of sailing through a series of green lights. Now, thanks to artificial intelligence, German researchers have found a way to reduce time spent at the crossroads.
Called the KI4LSA project and funded by the Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, the innovation is being tested. Scientists first studied algorithms taken from a busy intersection to learn about traffic patterns and where improvements were most needed. Then, the technology, using high-resolution cameras and radar sensors, more precisely captured the actual traffic situation and detected the average speed of the cars and their waiting times. Finally, the AI uses deep enhanced learning algorithms to calculate the best switching behaviour for the traffic lights and determine the best phase sequence to shorten waiting times at the crossroads.
The results are encouraging when it is being tried out at a busy intersection in Lemgo, Germany. The intelligent lights are said to improve traffic flow by 10 to 15 percent, which results in money saved; the EU estimates that traffic jams create economic damage that adds up to 100 billion euros a year. Aside from reducing commuting time, these traffic lights will reduce noise and CO2 emissions from cars waiting at the crossroads.
Another exciting development in this research is the KI4PED project, which studies pedestrians crossing the crossroads. Using AI as well as a 3D point cloud, researchers can identify how many people are waiting at a pedestrian crossing and whether some of the disabled or elder people will need extra time to cross the street. Such a needs-based system could reduce pedestrian waiting time by 30 percent, which could then decrease jaywalking (乱穿马路) by 25 percent.
Researchers are optimistic that it will be adopted by many countries after the tests in the German towns of Lemgo and Bielefeld. This technology is exciting news for pedestrians and drivers alike. It encourages safety, protects the environment, and may even give you more time to enjoy your morning coffee before heading off to work!
28.What phenomenon does the author point out in Paragraph 1
A.The increasing demand for self-driving cars.
B.The improvement of road infrastructure in big cities.
C.The severe traffic congestion during commuting periods.
D.The popularity of public transportation during rush hours.
29.What conclusion can be drawn about the KI4LSA project’s operation
A.It struggles to adapt to sudden changes in traffic volume.
B.It solely depends on historical traffic data to make decisions.
C.It mainly focuses on reducing the number of vehicles on the road.
D.It combines data collection and algorithm analysis for optimization.
30.What can be inferred about the future of the AI-based traffic technologies
A.They will only be adopted in Germany.
B.They will have little impact on traffic problems.
C.They are likely to be widely used in many countries.
D.They will face many challenges in global promotion.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Traffic Jams: A Global Problem
B.AI-Powered Solutions to Ease Traffic Woes
C.The KI4LSA Project: A New Hope for Drivers
D.Pedestrian Safety: The Focus of Traffic Research

Throughout history, trees have played a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance. They absorb CO2 and transform it into oxygen. But one of the challenges with this traditional carbon absorption is that the CO2 trees store can be released back into the atmosphere when they die.
However, the discovery of certain trees in Kenya adds a new dimension to this natural process. These trees, also found in several other countries, have been observed to transform CO2 into calcium oxalate. Then bacteria (细菌) present in the trees and surrounding soil transform it further into calcium carbonate (碳酸钙), a primary component of limestone and chalk. The unique process ensures that the CO2 is kept in solid form for much longer, even after the tree’s life ends. This finding was emphasized by Mike Rowley from the University of Zurich at the Goldschmidt Conference.
While the scientific community is optimistic about these findings, several challenges remain. The primary concern is determining the exact amount of CO2 that these trees can transform throughout their lifetime. Without this accurate data, it is challenging to assess the full impact of this method globally. Understanding the ecological balance and ensuring the preservation of biodiversity are crucial before worldwide planting of these trees. Cooperative research efforts are needed to explore these aspects and develop a comprehensive strategy for using these trees as a natural solution to climate change.
This discovery in Kenya invites us to reconsider the potential of natural processes in addressing environmental challenges. While technological solutions to climate change are vital, integrating natural methods offers an alternative approach. The unique ability of these trees presents a promising method for exploration.
The journey to fighting climate change is complex. As we dig deeper into understanding natural phenomena like the Kenyan trees, we must ask ourselves: How can we make the best of the power of nature to create a sustainable future for generations to come
32.What is special about the trees found in Kenya
A.They absorb more CO2. B.They help turn CO2 into solids.
C.They release oxygen quickly. D.They live in harmony with bacteria.
33.What is the core challenge before applying the discovery globally
A.Assessing the cost of the process. B.Understanding the impact on soil.
C.Quantifying the CO2 transformation. D.Collecting the data on biodiversity.
34.What does the author try to explore in the last two paragraphs
A.The seriousness of climate change. B.The method of green development.
C.The prospect of scientific approaches. D.The role of nature in climate solutions.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.A defensive Strategy in Nature B.A Recent Advance in CO2 Research
C.Kenyan Trees: A Natural Carbon Lock D.Tree Planting: A Key to Ecological Balance

Wisdom is a remarkable accumulation of experience, knowledge, and sound judgement. It is not merely a desirable quality but an absolute necessity in a world filled with challenges and conflicts. 36 It shines our way ahead towards the best decisions.
Growing up with fairy tales and fantasy movies, I always associated wisdom with Gandalf, Yoda, and Albus Dumbledore. The truth is that there is more to wisdom than this, although these characters have given every one of us many important lessons. 37 And how
Variety is more than the spice of life. Beginning new experiences is also an avenue for acquiring wisdom. You will never grow from being in your comfort zone, which is why you need to get out of it. Do change your routine and experience as much as what life takes you to! In fact, there’re always several sides to a life story. To identify the truth, you need to be receptive to different views. Never base your perspective on the most popular opinions. 38 Instead, train your mind to be a judgment-free space for ideas. Open-mindedness opens new pathways to profound insights.
What if you are desperate for personal growth and improvement A shortcut to do that is to have wise people as your tutors, with whom the more time you spend, the more transfer of knowledge there will be. Your tutors can be whoever is wiser than you. 39
40 Remember developing wisdom is beyond a destination. It is important to acknowledge that it takes a span of your life and continuous effort to mature in wisdom as you navigate life’s challenges.
A.Nor is it emotion-based.
B.Rome wasn’t built in a day.
C.It isn’t something you are born with.
D.Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens.
E.Actually, everyone should have a little wisdom.
F.To sail in the world, wisdom becomes our guiding light.
G.Yet prior to that, engage in dialogue with them to find out why.

I was in my final year of high school, and like many of my peers, I was constantly stressed about my future. Everyone around me seemed to have their lives mapped out. But I was lost. I loved art, spending hours sketching in my notebook, but I was convinced that it wasn’t a practical career choice. My parents, both doctors, had high hopes for me to follow in their footsteps.
One day, during lunch break, I was sitting alone in the school garden, flipping through my sketchbook. As I stared at a drawing of a beautiful landscape I had created, I felt a pang of sadness. I was so absorbed in my thoughts that I didn’t notice Mr. Thompson, our art teacher, approaching.
“Mind if I take a look ” he asked gently. Startled, I handed him the sketchbook. He flipped through the pages slowly, his eyes lighting up with each drawing. “These are incredible, Lily. You have a real talent,” he said. I shrugged, “Thanks, but it’s just a hobby. I can’t make a living from drawing.” Mr. Thompson sat down beside me. “Why not There are so many amazing career opportunities in the art field-graphic design, illustration, art therapy... the list goes on.”
His words planted a seed of hope in my heart, but the doubts quickly crept back. That evening, at the dinner table, I hesitantly brought up the idea of studying art in college. My parents’ reactions were immediate. “Lily, we know you love art, but it’s not a stable career. You’ll struggle to make ends meet,” I remained silent, my appetite gone.
As the following school day ended, I found myself walking towards the art room. Mr. Thompson was inside, organizing some supplies. He smiled warmly, “I understand it’s a tough decision. But sometimes, you have to take a leap of faith and trust your instincts.” Just then, an announcement came over the school intercom. “Attention, students! The local art museum is hosting a high-school art competition. The winner will receive a full-scholarship to a renowned art school.” I froze. This could be my chance, but the fear of failure and my parents’ expectations were holding me back.

第一节:
Good morning, everyone!
Today I want to share my thoughts on the dangers of short video addiction. Spending too much time on short videos not only harms our eyes and reduces study time, but also makes us feel tired, anxious, and less focused. It can even weaken real-life communication and distract us from important goals.
To avoid this, we should set daily limits, plan our time carefully, and spend more time on hobbies like reading, sports, or music. Parents and teachers can also guide us to use our time wisely.
Let’s take control and build a healthier, more productive life!
第二节:
For a moment, I stood there, torn between hope and fear. Then, something inside me snapped. I decided to take a chance. I walked up to Mr. Thompson and told him I wanted to participate in the competition. Overjoyed, he immediately offered to help me prepare my entry. Over the next few weeks, I poured all my energy into creating a masterpiece. It was a large-scale watercolor painting that depicted a vivid scene of a bustling city street filled with people from all walks of life. Mr. Thompson provided valuable feedback, guiding me to improve the composition and color palette.
Finally, the day of the competition arrived. I nervously submitted my painting and waited anxiously for the results. When it was announced that I was the winner, I couldn’t believe my ears. I stood there, stunned, as my classmates and teachers erupted into applause. I looked around and saw Mr. Thompson beaming with pride. My parents were initially shocked when receiving the news. But as they saw the joy and determination in my eyes, they began to understand that my happiness was more important than their expectations. From that day on, I knew that following my passion was the best decision I could have ever made.
