It's wonderful to have a relaxing bath in mineral water while looking out over beautiful scenery. If you live in the US or are planning a visit, consider going to one of the two natural hot springs(温泉) in the western US:
Travertine Hot Springs
At the edge of the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Bridgeport, California lie the Travertine HotSprings. The orange, green, and red rocks and the mountains create beautiful views for you to enjoy while you bathe. Each pool is a different temperature, so you can find one that’s comfortable for you. These springs can easily be reached by car. Take Route 395 south from Bridgeport and turn left onto Jack Sawyer Road. In about a mile you’ll arrive at the springs. If you like to camp, you can camp along Jack Sawyer Road.
Bagby Hot Springs
In the middle of an ancient forest you’ll find the Bagby Hot Springs. At the springs there are wooden bathhouses, with both private baths and communal baths. Through a system of pipes the spring water is brought to the baths at a temperature of 136 degrees Fahrenheit. If that’s too hot, buckets of cold water are also available to mix into the bathtub(浴缸)or to cool off with after your bath.
The Bagby Springs are about 45 minutes from Estacada, Oregon, on Highway 224. To get to the bathhouse there is a 1.5-mile walk from the parking lot through the beautiful Mt. Hood National Forest. While in the area, make sure to visit Portland, which is known for its coffee, restaurants, and music.

A month before my first marathon, one of my ankles was injured and this meant not running for two weeks, leaving me only two weeks to train. Yet, I was determined to go ahead.
I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P.E. class, the teacher asked us to run laps and then hit a soft ball. I didn’t do either well. He later informed me that I was “not athletic”.
The idea that I was “not athletic” stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against myself, not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. I was all about the batter against my own body and mind. A test of will!
The night before my marathon, I dreamed that I couldn’t even find the finish line. I woke up sweating and nervous, but ready to prove something to myself.
Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoe laces(鞋带) became untied. So I stopped to tie it. Not the start I wanted!
Then I just read the mile 3.1 passed sign: “GO FOR IT, RUNNERS!”
By mile 17, I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly. Despite the pain, I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.
By mile 21, 1 was starving!
As I approached mile 23, I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan. She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a.m. or questioned my expenses on running.
I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In factI got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had.
Determined to be myself, move forward, free of shame and worldly labels(世俗标签), 1 can now call myself a “marathon winner”.

We all need physical exercise. Exercise uses up food we eat and keeps the body full of energy. It works our muscles and makes our heart work hard so as to send blood to our muscles. So, exercise makes our heart and muscles strong. Exercise also makes us feel refreshed. If you exercise a couple of times a week, you will stay happy and healthy.
Some Western countries, such as the United States, have problems with exercise. In the US, many people don’t have enough exercise because it is hard for them. People have to work from dawn till dusk, so they don’t have time to take exercise. They work in office buildings sitting in chairs all day long in front of computers. They cannot get much exercise sitting at desk passively.
Some Westerners can get exercise walking from their homes to work. However, the majority of the people cannot do this. It is too far from their homes to their offices. They have no choice but to drive to work. In fact, some have to drive one or two hours to their offices. This has an unfavourable effect on them in two ways. First, these people don’t have a chance to exercise because they are sitting in their cars for two to four hours each day. Second, driving is challenging especially in rush hours and calls for too much attention. It makes a person tired. So, when these people arrive home at night, they don’t have the desire to take exercise after work.
Today, many people in the West are overweight, which causes health problems for them. Doctors say exercise can help people both lose weight and improve their health. So many people are trying to get more exercise. But it takes time to change, and when people don’t see a difference right away, they will lose heart and stop exercising.

Dear David,
How are you I hope this letter finds you well. You asked about my life after entering high school, so I’m excited to share my experiences with you!
My first impression of Chenguang High School was truly amazing. The campus is modern yet warm, with spacious classrooms, a huge library full of books waiting to be explored, and even a beautiful garden where we can relax between classes. What surprised me most was how friendly everyone is—teachers and classmates alike make me feel right at home.
Among all subjects, English has become my favorite subject! Our teacher uses creative methods like role-playing and group discussions that make learning both fun and effective. After school, I joined the basketball club because I love sports. Playing with teammates not only keeps me active but also helps me make new friends quickly. Last week, we had our first match against another class—it was thrilling!
Looking ahead, I have big plans for my high school years. Academically, I want to improve my weak subjects while continuing to enjoy strong ones like English. Personally, I aim to participate in more school activities, maybe even try out for the debate team next semester. And who knows Perhaps one day soon, we could meet up during summer vacation if circumstances allow!
Yours,
Li Jin
