A Terrible Rainstorm I Experienced
Last July, my hometown was hit by a terrible rainstorm that I’ll never forget. It taught me the importance of staying calm and helping each other.
The rain started in the early morning and got heavier and heavier. By noon, the streets were covered with water—some low-lying communities were even flooded. I was doing my homework at home when I heard a loud knock on the door. It was my neighbor Aunt Wang—her house was leaking, and she needed help moving her furniture to higher places. My dad and I immediately went to help: we carried her sofa and books onto the second floor, and put plastic sheets on the windows to stop the rain from coming in.
To our surprise, more neighbors joined us soon. Some helped carry old people out of flooded houses; others shared umbrellas and raincoats. Even though we were all wet and tired, no one gave up. When the rain finally stopped the next day, the streets were full of mud, but everyone worked together to clean up.
This experience made me realize that disasters are scary, but with courage and teamwork, we can get through any difficulty. I also learned to follow weather warnings and prepare emergency supplies (like bottled water and candles) at home.

Last year, a small earthquake happened at my school. The classroom shook suddenly. Our teacher told us to hide under desks and stay calm. It stopped after 30 seconds.
When an earthquake hits, you should hide under a strong desk and avoid lifts. After it, check if water and electricity are safe, and help clean up if you can.
