Most students feel nervous before exams. This kind of nervousness can make it hard to
focus on studying, and even affect exam performance. But do you know that reading can help
reduce exam stress
A study from a university shows that reading interesting books for 20 minutes a day can
lower stress levels by 68%. This is more effective than listening to music or taking a walk.
“Reading can take our minds away from exam worries and make us feel calm,” says Dr. Lee, who led the study.
In the past, people thought reading was just for learning knowledge. But now, more and
more teachers and parents encourage students to read storybooks or magazines before exams.
For example, in No. 3 Middle School, teachers set up a “Reading Corner” in each classroom. Students can borrow books from the corner during break time. Many students say that after reading a short story, they feel more relaxed and can concentrate better on their revision.
15yearold Zhang Hua used to be very anxious before math exams. He often couldn’t sleep well the night before. Then his teacher advised him to read a few pages of a humor book every
evening.“After reading, I laugh a lot and forget about the exam pressure. Now I can sleep better
and do better in exams,” Zhang Hua says.
Now, reading to reduce stress has become a popular way among students. It’s not only easy to do but also helpful for both mental health and study.

park, bring gloves and a trash bag. If you volunteer at a library, bring a notebook to take notes.
Also, wear comfortable clothes and shoes, because you may need to work for a few hours.
Be responsible
When you start volunteering, remember to be on time. If you can’t go, tell the organization in advance. Follow the rules and listen to the instructions of the staff. Try your best to finish the tasks. Being responsible will make the organization trust you.

How Can We Have a Meaningful Weekend
Nowadays, some students spend too much time on electronic products on weekends, which
is a waste of time. Others feel bored because they don’t know how to plan their weekends. In fact, a meaningful weekend can help us relax and improve ourselves.
To have a meaningful weekend, we can do many things. First, we can take part in outdoor
activities like climbing mountains or riding bikes to get close to nature. Second, helping our
parents with housework can make our family closer. Third, reading our favorite books or learning
new skills such as cooking and drawing can enrich ourselves.
Let’s try our best to make our weekends meaningful!
