Many people think heirlooms (传家宝) are expensive things. However, Sara doesn’t think so. She has a few heirlooms. Anyone can buy them in a shop. However, they are special to her because they belonged to her grandmother.
After Sara’s grandmother died, her family chose something of hers to keep to remember her. As Sara lived far away, her mother picked things out for her—a tablecloth, a mirror, and an old pot. Sara kept these things, but she didn’t use them much. The tablecloth didn’t fit her tables. She didn’t like the color of the mirror frame (镜框), and the pot was too small and old.
Sara’s life changed when she read something in a book: Don’t keep anything in your house that you don’t find useful or beautiful. That’s right. “But what about sentimental (情感的) things like heirlooms They’re beautiful if they remind us of good times with loved ones.” Sara thought.
Sara decided to give these things a fresh start. She painted the mirror frame a different color to go with her daughter’s room. Although Sara’s daughter never met her grandmother, they share a connection through the mirror. Sara bought a table to go with her grandmother’s tablecloth. She also started using her grandmother’s pot. Whenever she cooks with it, Sara thinks of her grandmother making bread long ago. These things, once forgotten, are useful again, bringing together old memories and new stories.
19. Why did Sara hardly use her heirlooms
A. Because they were too old. B. Because she liked modern things better.
C. Because they didn’t meet her needs or taste. D. Because they reminded her of her grandmother.
20. What made Sara change her attitude (态度) toward the heirlooms
A. Advice from a friend. B. Words from a book.
C. Her mother’s advice. D. Her daughter’s wish.
21. What can we infer (推断) from the text
A. Sara used her heirlooms to save money. B. Sara didn’t find her heirlooms beautiful.
C. Sara will keep more old things at home. D. Old things have sentimental meaning for Sara.
22. What could be the best title for the text
A. Old treasures, new stories. B. Sara’s love for DIY activities.
C. How to choose family heirlooms. D. The meaning of expensive heirlooms.

Don’t let your kids drag their feet (拖拖拉拉) over doing chores. Help them to make the boring chores enjoyable.
__________A simple and great way to make cleaning great fun is to do some of it together. That also makes kids understand the meaning of fairness.
Get lucky. If your kids like surprises, write chores on ice cream and have each kid pick one. Tell them they can change their picks if each of them agrees. In this way, they will have a feeling that they’re making a choice.
Make it playtime. Turn “kitchen time” into a party. Let one child be a cook and another be a DJ. The cook chooses what he or she would like to help make for dinner. The DJ chooses the music he or she would like to play. Everyone can dance around the kitchen while preparing dinner or cleaning up the kitchen later.
Find more difficult chores. One of my friends was trying to get her kids to help out around the house, and someone advised her to give the kids some things like candies or toys as rewards (报酬). The plan worked like magic. However, rewards usually don’t work for long because kids will be bored with doing the same chores all the time. At this time, give them some difficult chores. If they’re already used to helping clean the cage of the pet, make it harder by having them clean it all by themselves. Then, ask them to clean it faster.
What can we know from Paragraph 1
A.Most children like to do chores at home.
B.It’s not necessary for children to do chores.
C.Parents should do chores at home by themselves.
D.Parents should help children make chores interesting.
Which can be put back into“__________”
A.Work as a team. B. Be a model at home.

A.Telling them the importance of doing chores.
B.Asking them to do difficult chores all the time.
C.Letting them eat ice cream whenever they want.
