What are these wild animals
A Daniel is reading two articles about wild animals. Read with him and answer the questions below.
We live in the Arctic. We are the biggest meat-eaters on land, and we often have to travel a long way to find food.
The earth is becoming warmer, and the Arctic ice is melting. This makes it more difficult for us to survive. Today there are about 22,000 to 31,000 of us on earth, and our number may still drop.
We are the largest animals on the planet. The ocean is our home, and we can live up to 90 years.
In the past, humans hunted us, and there were very few of us left. Now it is against the law to hunt us, but we are still at risk. We often get hurt by big ships. Moreover, the ocean water is getting warmer, and we may not have enough food to eat in the future. It is harder for us to live long and healthy lives than before.

I am a panda.
I live in the bamboo forests of southwestern China.
I mainly eat bamboo.
One big problem I face is that it’s hard for me to reproduce.
The reasons for the reproduction problem are that baby pandas are very tiny and weak at birth, and the living conditions are not very good.
They do some research on my family and take good care of us to help increase the panda population.
I hope humans can keep protecting the bamboo forests.
D2 Amy wrote a letter on behalf of an Indian rhino. Read it below and analyse its structure.
Dear humans,
I am an Indian rhino. I live in northern India. I eat grass and small plants. I am writing to ask for your help to protect the rhinos in the wild.
Many years ago, thousands of us lived in some parts of Asia. We ate special plants near our homes, but they became fewer and fewer when farmers started using them to feed their animals. People also hunted us for our horns. As a result, our number started to drop.
The governments of India and Nepal made laws to protect us. But you can do more. Please stop using our horns for your own needs. Our horns are important for us to live healthy lives. Please help us, or there may be none of us left in the future.
