Analysis of Teaching Material The topic of this unit is “Working the land” and the passage “A PIONEER FOR ALL PEOPL ”narrate a biography of "father of hybrid rice" Yuan Long Ping.This article has a clear structure from Yuan's achievements,his work experience to solve the hunger problems.Through analyzing the qualities of Yuan Long Ping, students can be encouraged to love life,respect farmers and make a positive contribution to their hometown.
Analysis of Learning Situation Students in Grade Two have mastered basic reading skills and also be able to engage in dialogue on some issues.However,students' vocabulary is not enough which caused unfamiliar with some sentence patterns in the text.
Students can summarize the personal qualities of Yuan Long Ping but they don't know how to write a biography.

Engagement Teacher asks students to have a imagination"If you are a seed,what would you say and students can listen the seed's saying by watching the video. Teacher asks students to make a guess about video's question"Can you guess the name of my grandfather " Introduce the agriculture scientist-Yuan Long Ping. Students make a guess according to the video. Introduce the Yuan Long Ping. To attract attention.
Exploration Activity1:Reading prediction Teacher shows the photo and the title to make students predict what the text mainly talk about. Activity2: Writing style. Teacher shows two questions about writing style and ask students to guess the type of reading-narration,a biography. Activity3: Reading structures. Structure1:reading the main idea Teacher shows the main ideas to make students match paragraphs with main ideas Structure2:analyze the structure of the passage Teacher shows the passage and let the students divide into three parts. Activity4: Reading details Students will be asked to read the passage in details and answer these questions and complete the blanks in the table to draw a mind map. Activity5:Reading strategies Strategy1:teacher asks students to infer that how does the author develop the passage to introduce Yuan -by time order. Strategy2:teacher asks students to underline the transitional words,then match some details with these paragraphs and infer the writing technique-by contrast. Students can be improved the ability of prediction. Students can be master the structure of reading. Students can be master the strategies of reading. Learn about the passage as a whole.
Explanation Teacher shows a character map and ask students to have a group discussion to summarize some information about Yuan. students will display: Students can summarize some information about Yuan Long Ping. Learn about the ability of summarize the passage.
Elaboration Activity 1:After learning some information, teacher asks students recall the question"Why is Yuan "a pioneer for all people" and make a text elaboration. Activity2:teacher asks students to think "what can we learn from Yuan LongPing" and let the students to answer. teacher write the answers on the black board. Activity3: teacher show ABCDE Template to describe that how to write a biography. Activity4:Teacher show the video to make the students learn about some pioneers of agriculture. Students show their views about this reading. Learn about the skills of writing a biography.
Evaluation Teacher show a table and ask students to self-evaluation about this reading passage. Students will have a self-evaluation Practise self-evaluate of ability
