As a child, Renae often felt lonely. But that all changed when she turned 10.For her birthday, Renae’s grandmother gave her a cute dog named Chloe.
From the very start, the two were inseparable (形影不离的) “She was my best friend,” Renae says . But when Renae was 14, her father started to work from home, and the house needed to be quiet.
“Chloe was yappy,” Renae says. “I was just a kid, so I didn’t have any choice .I didn’t want to give up my dog. I felt so sad about it.”
The family sent Chloe to a society. Though they were told the dog would find a new home, they couldn’t know for sure. “I called the society to find out what happened to her,” Renae says, “but they couldn’t tell me anything.”
In time, Renae grew up. got married, and had her own child. But her family didn’t feel complete. Remembering the joy a dog had brought, Renae decided to keep a dog for her kid. Posting selfies online can be a fun way to share your life with your friends and family. But some people take their photos a bit too seriously and spend a lot of time editing (编辑) them. This not only presents a “fake” image (形象) of those people to the world, but can even make people feel worse about themselves.
Researchers in Australia did a study in which 130 women aged 18 to 30 were asked to look at a series of photos. Some of the photos showed thin women, while others showed average-sized women. Afterwards the women were asked to take a selfie with an iPad and were then given 10 minutes to edit the selfie.
The women were also asked about their personal dissatisfaction (不满意) with their bodies and faces several times during the experiment—before and after viewing their images, and after editing their selfies.
The researchers’ findings showed that the longer the women took to edit and post their selfies, the more likely (可能的) they were to have negative (消极的) feelings about their own appearance. In addition, the more heavily edited the photos were, the more likely it was that the women were dissatisfied with their facial appearance.
People are often pressured to present the best version (版本) of themselves. This, in turn, creates greater stress as they edit their photos to “perfection”, while they themselves don’t actually change, according to Professor Marika Tiggemann, one of the researchers. The findings show the difficulties people face when using social media.

阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
请认真阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
What is personality
Personality is the pattern of feelings, thoughts and behavior shown through people’s lives. It makes them different from others.
Each person’s personality is made up of different personality characters such as kindness or shyness. These characters decide how people behave in different situations. For example, if someone shy is served the wrong meal in a restaurant, he probably won’t say anything. On the other hand, someone outgoing will probably complain and get the meal he ordered.
Where does your personality come from
The human brain is like a computer because it controls the human body just as a computer controls a robot.
However, humans aren’t robots! We have personalities. The human brain has a special part giving us personality and allowing us to think for ourselves, unlike a computer. This part of the brain is called the mind.
Personality types
Clearly scientists cannot study the mind by looking inside someone’s brain! All they would see is blood and grey matter. To study the mind, scientists have to study human behavior. This includes watching people carefully and organizing personality tests like this one:
1. Do you think you’re pretty or good-looking
2. Would you rather read a book or go to a party
3. Do you have a large group of friends or just one or two close friends
4. Do you mind talking in public or does it scare you
5. Are you messy or neat
6. Do you plan your work well or do you do things at the last minute
Scientists believe that answers to these types of questions tell us something about a person’s personality characters. After asking thousands of people thousands of questions, they’ve found that some personality characters seem to go together. This has led scientists to believe that there’re certain personality types. For example, shy people are often quiet. They have an introverted (内向的) personality type. The opposite is an extroverted (外向的) personality type — people who are outgoing, talkative and like being around other people.
66.What is personality
67.Why is the human brain like a computer
68.How do scientists study human behavior
69.How many personality types are mentioned in this passage
70.What decides your personality (请自拟一句话作答)

Should Teenagers be Allowed to Shop Online
The other day I read a piece of news about a 12-year-old boy who spent 120,000 yuan shopping online. Online shopping is one of the new ways of shopping. I like online shopping and I often buy books, clothes and snacks through the Internet.
Compared to shopping in stores, online shopping has a lot of advantages, such as it makes shopping easier and more convenient. Just stay at home and turn on the computer, and you can buy the things you want. And we can save a lot of money.
Of course, it has some disadvantages as well. For example, we can not see the product by ourselves. We just get the information from the pictures. Therefore, we may make some mistakes, such as buying things with the wrong size. What’s more, it is sometimes unsafe to pay online.
