Unit4 Being a good learner
1.Way to do sth. 做某事的方法 原文:Talk about learning challenges and find ways to solve them;(P43) 谈论学习挑战并找到解决他们的方法。
2. advice on how to be a good learner. 关于怎样成为一个好的学习者的建议。On,此处的意思为“关于”,相对于“about”较为正式。
Lesson1
How many oceans are there in the world 词句为含有there be句型的特殊疑问句,how many 对可数名词数量进行提问。
Why do leaves fall 此处leaves为leaf的复数形式(注意和动词leave三单形式的区别),初中阶段常见的以f,fe结尾的名词需要变f,fe为v+es的有如下口诀:妻子(wife)持刀(knife)去宰狼(wolf),吓得小偷(thief)发了慌,躲在架(shelf)后保己(self)命(life),半(half)片树叶(leaf)遮目光。
What happened 怎么了=What's wrong =What’s the matter =What’s the trouble 【注意】What happened to sb =What’s wrong with sb
Have the flu 患流感;类似的还有have a headache; have a cold.
Have to do sth. 不得不做某事,强调客观性,原文:I had to miss school. 我不得不缺课。
文中李林得了流感(客观条件),因此不得不缺课。
Answers to questions 问题的答案,注意介词to与of的区别,to强调“一一对应”,如the key to the door, the solution to the problem, the reply to the letter,而of更多强调“整体与部分、属性从属”,如 the cover of the book 书的封面。 原文:We are trying to find answers to questions such as: Why do apples fall Why can we stand on the ground (P44)
Try doing sth 尝试做某事;try to do sth尽力做某事;try/do one’s best to do sth尽某人最大的努力做某事;
such as 例如,位置放于句中,不用逗号和句子隔开,常举两个及以上例子;注意同for example的区别,for example 的位置较为灵活,可以放在句首,句末或句中,且常用逗号同句子分开,通常只举一个例子。原文:For example, gravity is a force.(P44)
Share sth with sb. 和某人分享某物。 原文:Can you share some study tips with me (P44)
focus on...聚焦于…… 原文:You can focus on the key words.(P44)
reasonable adj.合理的 词根-->reason n.理由
help sb (to) do sth 帮助某人做某事,这里的to 常省略。
Lesson 2 Karen’s hair stood up!
each的用法,当代词做主语,谓语动词用单数;但须注意其做主语的同位语时,谓语须与主语保持一致。Eg. We each have a big apple now. 原文:We each brought a painting to class.
As the saying goes, 正如那句谚语所说。
Take ...as...把……当做…… 原文:Take me as an example.(P46)
Show sb sth=show sth to sb. 向某人展示某物 原文:Bill showed us many photos of Beijing.(P45) 【拓展】show sb around 带某人四处参观
remind sb of sth.使某人想起某物; 原文:These remind me of my holidays there.(P46)
【拓展】remind sb to do sth 提醒某人做某事
Take part in...=join in... 参加……(尤指在其中起到作用),注意同join,加入 的区别,join后通常指成为其中一员。 原文:The secret of learning social studies well is to fully take part in the topic.(P46)
Make sb/sth do sth 使 某人/某物 做某事 原文:She also made her hair stand up with the comb.(P46)
Lesson 3 My learning experiences
experience. n.经验;经历 v.体验 【注意】当“经验”讲时,是不可数名词,当“经历”
讲时是可数名词。
Graduate from... 从……毕业(后常跟学校),原文:I graduated from this school ten years ago, and I am now working as a translator. (P48)【拓展】graduate in...毕业于……专业。
Build confidence in...在……(方面)树立信心 原文:We should build confidence in our English learning.(P48)
be afraid to do sth. 因害怕而不敢做某事(怕的是“做某事的行为本身”,因胆怯不敢) be afraid of (doing) sth 担心(做)某事(怕的是做某事的结果、风险)
Worry about (doing)sth...担心……=be worried about (doing) sth... 原文:Don’t worry about making mistakes.
follow one’s advice 听从某人的建议 原文:I followed her advice. (P48)【拓展】take one’s advice 采纳某人的建议
find out... 找出……的解决方案
last but not least, 最后但同样重要的
try/do one’s best to do sth. 尽某人最大的努力做某事
Lesson 4 Be happy with yourself
focus on...集中;特别关注 原文:Studying alone helps us focus completely on the material. (P50) 独自学习帮助我们全神贯注于学习内容。
pay attention to (doing) sth. 注意(做)某事。原文:When you do self-study, you pay all your attention to learning.(P50)
动名词短语做主语,谓语动词用单数。原文:Studying with others makes it possible for us to work together and share our understanding.(P50)
Allow sb to do sth. 允许某人做某事。 原文:Studying alone allows us to have full control over our learning environment. (P50)
Prefer to do sth. 更喜欢做某事。 【拓展】 prefer A to B.比起B更喜欢A;prefer doing A to doing B 比起做B更喜欢做A;prefer do do sth rather than do sth 比起做某事,更喜欢做...
原文:Some students prefer to study alone with soft music on. (P50)
agree with sb. 同意某人的观点, agree to do sth 同意做某事, agree on sth.在某事上达成一致。原文:I’m not sure I would agree with that. (P50) 【拓展】disagree,v.不同意;agreement n.同意,reach an agreement 达成一致;
Lesson 5 What type of learner am I
宾语从句的否定转移,当主句主语是第一人称且主句的谓语动词是think,believe, suppose,expect,imagine等表示“认为、相信、猜想”时,从句的否定词not,往往会转移到主句上,形式上否定主句,实际上否定从句。Eg.I don’t believe she will come. 我相信她不会来。 I don't suppose he is a student. 我猜想他不是学生。 原文:I don’t think I am a good learner.(P52)我认为我不是一个好的学习者。
