Sandoval, who comes from Los Angeles, has traveled and filmed in over 50 countries across seven continents and now lives in China. “In 2008, tired of my studio work in the U.S, I came to China, thinking I would be here one or two years, but it has turned out to be 16 years!” he said. He hopes his photographs will inspire others to embark on adventures as well.
Sandoval is a professional photographer and learned commercial photography at what was then the Brooks Institute of Photography. With the hope of trying something different for himself, he went to Chengdu in Southwest China to live in October 2008 and has traveled throughout the country since then.
In the beginning, he did editorial work for magazines both in and outside Sichuan, such as Vogue. Then he worked with the Sichuan tourism department to produce travel brochures, and also on ad campaigns for destinations for corporate companies.
To him, Chengdu is the capital of a laid-back lifestyle. He was delighted to see that residents, dressed stylishly or comfortably, strolled in the streets “as slowly as snails”. Almost a “walking encyclopedia” of Chengdu, Sandoval covered every corner of Chengdu and recorded Chengduese and their lives with his camera, listening to the sound of mahjong tiles being shuffled and music from traditional stringed instruments.
He also goes from place to place with his heavy travel kit. The varied culture and vast, beautiful land has kept him in China much longer than he had planned in the beginning. He remembers a wide range of adventures like exploring a local vineyard and local wine in Yinchuan City, a riding performance by a Mongolian ethnic group in the Shuidonggou Horse Riding Show, and then the totally different experience of visiting the Hainan Free Trade Port in the south.
He thinks he has done a lot in “this beautiful and vast country” with his “travel photos”. “I try to show people the beauty of where I go. I try to inspire them to travel and go to places. I’m hoping to do more international work,” he said.
24. Why did Sandoval come to China
A. He was not good at studio work. B. He wanted to step out of the comfort zone.
C. He had a preference for international work. D. He was attracted by the picturesque nature of China.
25. What does the underlined word “laid-back” in Paragraph 4 refer to
A. Leisurely. B. Simple. C. Luxurious. D. Healthy.
26. Sandoval’s experiences around China are mentioned in Paragraph 5 to show _______.
A. Sandoval’s diverse hobbies B. Sandoval’s desire for new careers
C. Sandoval’s superb photo technique D. Sandoval’s fascination for Chinese culture
27. What is the writing purpose of this passage
A. To call on readers to take up photography.
B. To praise Sandoval for spreading Chinese culture.
C. To promote the development of tourism in Chengdu.
D. To introduce the experience of a professional photographer.

When viewed from above, highway traffic looks like ant colonies in motion. Yet unlike human drivers, ants remarkably avoid traffic jams through collective intelligence. Scientists are now studying these tiny creatures to develop smarter self-driving car systems that could prevent traffic jams.
Research shows traffic flow becomes unstable when vehicle density(密度) reaches 15 cars per mile per lane. Surprisingly, ants maintain smooth movement even at high densities. Studies reveal their secret lies in traveling in small groups (3-20 ants) at consistent speeds while maintaining proper spacing and never overtaking each other.
The similarities between ant colonies and potential smart traffic systems are striking. Just as ants cooperate through chemical signals without any central authority, future vehicle networks could operate through decentralized communication. “What emerges is a remarkably strong system without any single leader,” observes Noa Pinter-Wollman, a behavioral ecologist at UCLA who studies ant colonies. This distributed approach to traffic management could prove far more adaptable than our current top-down systems.
Human drivers, focused on personal speed advantage, surely cause jams. “We put individual interests first, which leads to traffic jam,” explains Nicola Pugno, an engineering professor at Italy’s University of Trento who contributed to the research. This fundamental difference in approach suggests that future autonomous vehicles, if properly programmed, could revolutionize traffic flow by adopting ant-like cooperation. Imagine a network of self-driving cars constantly communicating with nearby vehicles to maintain steady speeds and safe following distances, get rid of the stop-and-go patterns that waste time and fuel.
While ants show great flexibility by making paths wider or even moving upside down in narrow spaces, cars today cannot do the same. However, Nishinari offers one simple lesson from ants that all drivers can use: keep a safe distance. Leaving enough space between cars helps reduce sudden stops that often lead to unexplained traffic slowdowns.
28. What is the main purpose of scientists studying ants in relation to traffic systems
A. To understand how ants avoid predators. B. To develop smarter self-driving car systems.
C. To learn how ants build their colonies. D. To study the chemical signals ants use.
29. Why can ants avoid traffic jams even at high densities
A. They travel in small groups with consistent spacing and speed.
B. They rely on a central authority to coordinate their movements.
C. They use chemical signals to communicate with each other.
D. They frequently overtake other ants to avoid congestion.
30. How can ant colonies inspire future vehicle network design
A. It will rely on a central authority for cooperation.
B. It will copy the top-down systems currently in use.
C. It will operate through decentralized communication.
D. It will value individual speed over collective efficiency.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A. Ant Colonies: A Model for Future Traffic Systems
B. Human Drivers: The Cause of Traffic Congestion
C. Self-Driving Cars: The Science Behind Them
D. Decentralized Communication: The Future of Traffic

For thousands of years, people have known that the best way to understand a concept is to explain it to someone else. “While we teach. we learn.” said Roman philosopher Seneca. Now scientists are bringing this ancient wisdom up-to-date. They are documenting why teaching is such a fruitful way to learn, and designing innovative ways for young people to engage in instruction.
Researchers have found that students who sign up to tutor others work harder to understand the material, recall it more accurately and apply it more effectively. Student teachers score higher on tests than pupils who are learning only for their own sake. But how children, still learning themselves, teach others One answer. They can tutor younger kids. Some studies have found that first-born children are more intelligent than their later-born siblings. This suggests their higher IQs result from the time they spend teaching their siblings. Now educators are experimenting with ways to apply this model to academic subjects. They engage college undergraduates to teach computer science to high school students, who in turn instruct middle school students on the topic.
But the most cutting-edge tool under development is the “teachable agent”—a computerized character who learns, tries, makes mistakes and asks questions just like a real-world puter scientists have created an lively figure called Betty’s Brain, who has been “taught” about environmental science by hundreds of middle school students. Student teachers are motivated to help Betty master certain materials. While preparing to teach, they organize their knowledge and improve their own understanding. And as they explain the information to it, they identify problems in their own thinking.
Feedback from the teachable agents further enhances the tutors learning. The agents’ questions make student tutors to think and explain the materials in different ways, and watching the agent solve problems allows them to see their knowledge put into action.
Above all, it’s emotions one experiences in teaching that promote learning. Student tutors feel upset when their teachable agents fail, but happy when these virtual pupils succeed as they derive pride and satisfaction from someone else’s accomplishment.
32. What are researchers rediscovering through their studies
A. Seneca’s thinking is still applicable today. B. Better learners will become better teachers.
C. Human intelligence tends to grow with age. D. Philosophical thinking improves instruction.
33. What do we learn about Betty’s Brain
A. It is a character in a popular cartoon. B. It is a teaching tool under development.
C. It is a cutting-edge app in digital games. D. It is a tutor for computer science students.
34. What is the key factor that benefits student tutors’ learning
A. Their sense of responsibility. B. The learning strategy acquired.
C. Their emotional involvement. D. The teaching experience gained.
35. What’s the author’s attitude towards student tutors’ learning
A. Opposed B. Indifferent C. Ambiguous D. Favorable
【答案】32. A 33. B 34. C 35. D
故选A。
33. 细节理解题。根据第三段“But the most cutting-edge tool under development is the “teachable agent” —a computerized character who learns, tries, makes mistakes and asks questions just like a real-world puter scientists have created an animated figure called Betty’s Brain, who has been “taught” about environmental science by hundreds of middle school students.(但正在开发的最尖端的工具是“可教代理”——一种像现实世界的学生一样学习、尝试、犯错误和提问的计算机角色。计算机科学家创造了一个名为Betty’s Brain的动画人物,数百名中学生向她“教授”了环境科学知识)”可知,Betty’s Brain是一种正在开发中的教学工具。故选B。

Dear Sam,
I hope this email finds you well. I'm writing to share with you the valuable insights I gained from a first-aid lecture on burn injuries that our school organized yesterday.
The lecture was highly informative. It covered not just basic procedures like cooling burns with running water and avoiding home remedies such as butter or ice. It also delved into more nuanced topics. These included different degrees of burns and how to assess when professional medical intervention is absolutely necessary.
What struck me most was the realization that proper first-aid knowledge can significantly alleviate suffering and even prevent long-term scarring in burn victims. It underscored that such skills are not just useful but potentially life-saving in critical situations.
Best regards,
第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
We sometimes take our loved ones’ concern for granted and show our worst mood to the family. During my growth, an experience in senior high school stood out in my memory.
As a taxi driver, my dad drove through chaotic streets with heavy traffic. Sometimes he had to deal with rude passengers and struggle with thin income. Despite these, he never complained. Dad was devoted to our family and cared much about us. The sunflower keychain I had given him as a Father’s Day gift in fifth grade had long lost its shine. Yet he had it attached to his leather belt everywhere he went. Every day, he simply headed out early in his worn-out uniform with two patches (补丁) and returned late with a tired but warm smile. When we joked about his “fashionable patches”, he’d laugh and say, “These are my medals of honor!”
As I entered senior high school, my world became overwhelming. Math problems danced in my head. My grades didn’t improve but even declined. School pressures skyrocketed. Even small things would set me off. Dad’s daily “How’s school today ” felt like another weight on my back. I was mean to his inquiries, even though I knew he meant well.
One day after a frustrating exam, I returned home, my backpack strap (肩带) cutting into my shoulder. Dad was calculating the taxi bills then. “Hey,” he said, with a smile on his face, “How is …”
“STOP IT!” The words exploded out of me. “You’re always in my business! Can’t you just...leave me ALONE ”
He froze. The pen he was holding rolled off the table. His face fell, as if I’d thrown cold water on him. Then he stood up slowly and walked to his room. The door shut softly—not a slam (砰地关上), just a quiet click—that somehow hurt me worse.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
【答案】Paragraph 1
I was shocked myself and my eyes fell on the keychain my mind racing. The faded sunflower, once golden and bright, now mirrored Dad’s silent sacrifices. Memories flooded in: him skipping meals to pay for my textbooks, his cracked hands gripping the steering wheel, and the way he proudly called his patches “medals.” My outburst replayed in my head, sharp and ugly. Guilt gnawed at me as I realized his questions weren’t prying—they were his lifeline to my world. The quiet click of the door echoed louder than any argument.
Paragraph 2
I knocked at the door and it opened. Dad sat on the edge of his bed, the sunflower keychain trembling in his hands. “I… I’m sorry,” I choked out. He looked up, eyes weary but soft. “I just wanted to know you’re okay,” he murmured. Tears blurred my vision as I hugged him, his patched uniform rough against my cheek. “Your medals are real,” I whispered. He laughed, a warm sound that melted the tension. From then on, his “How’s school ” became a bridge, not a burden.

CWhen viewed from above, highway traffic looks like ant colonies in motion.
D
Favorable
