There was an old bookstore on the corner of my street. I discovered it one sunny afternoon when I was exploring the neighborhood. The moment I pushed open the door, a unique aroma embraced me. The shelves were stuffed with books of every genre and age. I could see the spines of wellloved classics, rare first editions, and forgotten treasures. The owner, a middleaged man with glasses and a warm smile, was busy tidying up. He greeted me and told me to feel free to look around. I started browsing and was immediately fascinated by a collection of old travelogues that seemed to hold the secrets of faroff lands.
Over the following weeks, I became a regular. I would spend hours there, losing myself in the pages of different books. Sometimes, the owner would recommend a particular book based on our conversations. His knowledge and passion for literature were truly inspiring.
However, change was on the horizon. The city was developing rapidly, and new, modern shops were replacing the old ones. One day, I noticed a sense of gloom in the bookstore. The owner informed me that due to the skyrocketing rent and the competition from online bookstores, he was struggling to keep the doors open. It seemed that this little shelter of literature might soon disappear.
I was determined not to let that happen. I reached out to my schoolmates and local community groups. We organized a book fair in front of the bookstore, inviting local authors and artists to participate. We also set up an online crowdfunding page to collect donations. People from all over the neighbourhood came to show their support. They bought books, donated money, and shared their own memories of the bookstore.
Thanks to the collective efforts, we managed to raise enough funds to cover the rent for a while. The bookstore survived this crisis. A community's love and support can preserve something truly valuable. The old bookstore was not just a place to buy books; it was a cornerstone of our community's cultural and emotional heritage, and it was worth every bit of the fight to save it.
24. What caught the writer’s attention most during his first visit to the bookstore
A. The ancient travel accounts.
B. The packed book shelves.
C. The friendly and devoted shop owner.
D. The rich collection of literature classics.

A. Reserved and passionate.
B. Inspiring and economical.
C. Warmhearted and influential.
D. Ambitious and knowledgeable.
27. Which of the following does the writer mainly emphasize in the passage
A. The unavoidable replacement of old traditions by modern trends.
B. The negative impact of urban expansion on personal hobbies.
C. The marked advantage of small local businesses over large ones.
D. The crucial role of joint efforts in conserving cultural treasure.

This week, Google researchers published a paper describing results from an AI tool built to create music. The tool, called MusicLM, is not the first AI music tool to be launched. But the examples Google provided demonstrate musical creative ability based on a limited set of descriptive words.
Several different music examples produced by MusicLM were published online. Some of the generated music came from just one or twoword descriptions, such as "jazz", "rock" or "techno". The tool also created other examples from more detailed descriptions containing whole sentences.
In one example, Google researchers included these instructions to MusicLM, "It is a soundtrack of a game. It is fastpaced and upbeat, with a catchy electric guitar riff. The music is repetitive and easy to remember, but with unexpected sounds ..." In the resulting recording, the music seemed to keep very close to the description. The team said the more detailed the description was, the better the system could attempt to produce it.
The MusicLM model operates similarly to the machinelearning systems used by ChatGPT. ChatGPT and MusicLM both require powerful computers to operate complex machinelearning models. The San Franciscobased company OpenAI launched ChatGPT late last year. ChatGPT has recently received a lot of attention because of its ability to generate complex writings and other content from just a simple description in natural languages. Such tools can produce humanlike results because they are trained on huge amounts of data. Many different materials are fed into the systems to permit them to learn complex skills to create realistic works.
However, the MusicLM researchers said there were some risks linked to the new tool. One of the biggest issues the researchers identified was biases present in the training data. A bias might be including too much of one side and not enough of the other. The researchers said this raised a question about appropriateness for music generation for cultures underrepresented in the training data.
28. What can we learn about MusicLM
A. It is the first AI music tool to be launched.
B. It requires detailed descriptions of full sentences.
C. It generates complex writings from a simple description.
D. It creates music based on simple descriptive words.
29. What is the similarity between ChatGPT and MusicLM
A. They can take the place of musicians.
B. They have gained commercial success.
C. They are based on huge amounts of data.
D. They don't have any practical use in life.
30. Which of the following is an issue of the MusicLM model
A. Creating music with strong biases.
B. Requiring too much training data.
C. Being difficult for some people to use.
D. Producing music works with no creativity.
31. What would be the best title for the text
A. The future of humans with AI
B. A new AI tool to make music
C. Music created by some AI tools
D. AI and its function in culture development
D
Growing crops in piling rows indoors under controllable artificial lights can produce more food per square foot while using less land and water than traditional outdoor farms. But this vertical farming technique is also energy intensive and expensive. Researchers are now finding that adjusting light to cater to the unique requirements of each crop can promote stronger, healthier growth and simultaneously cut down on energy use.
Researchers have developed a computer program that can control lighting to better both photosynthesis and electric bills. The computer program adjusts the intensity of grow lights hourly based on the changing cost of electricity.
This "smart lighting" could potentially cut vertical farms' electricity costs by up to 12 percent, says Leo Marcells, leader of the research team. Such savings could lead to tens of thousands of dollars in annual cost reductions, backed by data from the 2021 Global CEA Census Report — a survey of the indoor and controlled environment agriculture industry.
But how might indoor crops grow well under dynamic lighting Marcells and his colleagues tested how leafy greens reacted to light patterns that changed hourly. Plants were exposed to varying light intensities: one group of plants grew under high—then—low intensity lighting intervals, while another enjoyed brighter mornings—and dimmer afternoons. Interestingly, both conditions resulted in leaves and mature weights similar to those grown under standard fixed lighting.
While the new program operated without predetermined lighting conditions, Marcells indicates there is potential for reducing electricity costs. Continued research that tests dynamic lighting on larger scales is needed, as the research was carried out at the singleplant level, but not yet at the whole crop stand level, mentioned Marcells. He also cautions against expecting immediate benefits from dynamic lighting for vertical farming. Other critical issues remain to be resolved before vertical farming can help feed the world.
32. What does the underlined word “intensive” mean in paragraph 1
A. Effective. B. Efficient. C. Challenging. D. Consuming.
33. What influences the adjustments of grow light intensity
A. Variations in power costs.
B. Growth stages of the crops.
C. Outdoor lighting conditions.
D. Changing electricity supplies.
34. What did researchers find about indoor crops
A. They grow better under fixed lighting.
B. They remain uninfluenced by sunlight.
C. They react similarly to varying light patterns.
D. They output more under dynamic lighting.
35. What may Marcelis agree with
A. The new program helps save on electricity bills.
B. There are still some limitations in the research.
C. Vertical farming will be a major trend in the future.
D. Dynamic lighting is a useful way to get rid of hunger.
第二节 (5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Have you ever thought that taking short breaks during a walk could actually help you burn more calories
Scientists have discovered that short bursts of activity can burn more energy than continuous exercise. For example, several groups of quick walks or stair climbs for just 10 to 30 seconds use 20% to 60% more energy than walking nonstop for the same distance. ___36___ Similar to a car using more fuel when starting a journey, our body works harder at the beginning of any movement. This is because it needs to warm up our muscles and get into a rhythm. These short bursts of activity might not last long, but they require a lot of energy.
___37___ As someone who sits most of the day, I used to think exercise meant hours at the gym. But when I tried replacing my afternoon coffee breaks with three 90second stair climbs, something surprising happened. ___38___ My body adjusted to the activity, and what once felt like a struggle gradually turned into a manageable routine. As this happened, I unexpectedly felt more focused and energized throughout the day. These “exercise snacks” fit well into my busy schedule, proving that working out doesn’t require large blocks of time.
___39___ Every stair climb or short walk wakes up the body. Health isn’t built in a day at the gym—it’s made through small, consistent actions. Simply replace one of your usual sitting breaks with just a single minute of walking, and you’ll be amazed at how small actions can reshape your physical vitality. ___40___
选项:
A. Now I see fitness differently.
B. Every stepcounts, no matter how short it is!
C. This finding matches perfectly with my own experience.
D. This happens because the body needs extra energy to start moving.
E. Actually, short exercise breaks can increase your energy consumption.
F. At first, even 20 seconds left me breathless, but over time, it became easier.
G. The more time and effort you put into exercise, the more calories you will burn.

David loved writing. When the school announced an English writing competition, David was eager to participate. He worked hard on his entry, believing it was his chance to prove himself. However, when the results were announced, David’s name wasn’t there. He felt a deep sense of disappointment and frustration, as if all his hard work had been in vain.
After the competition, David felt too embarrassed to talk about his failure. He spent days in his room, avoiding everyone. His former imagination seemed to have dried up, and he couldn’t find the motivation to write anymore. It felt like a part of him had been destroyed.
One afternoon, as David sat in his room, his English teacher, Mr. Carter, came to visit. Mr. Carter was a kind and encouraging teacher who had always believed in David’s potential. He had noticed David’s absence in class and decided to check in on him.
“Hey, David,” Mr. Carter said gently. “I heard about the competition. I’m really sorry you didn’t win, but I know how much effort you put into it. You should be proud of yourself for trying.” David looked down, feeling defeated. “I just don’t get it, Mr. Carter,” he said quietly. “I worked so hard, but it wasn’t enough. I feel like I’m never going to be good enough.”
Mr. Carter sat down next to David and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. He said, “David, writing is not just about winning competitions. It’s about expressing yourself and sharing your ideas. Sometimes, even the best writers don’t win. But that doesn’t mean they’re not good. It just means they need to keep trying and learning.”
With Mr. Carter’s encouragement, David began to analyze his writing. They discussed the strengths and weaknesses of his entry, and Mr. Carter offered valuable suggestions. David started to feel more confident and motivated. He realized that failure was just a part of the learning process.
Over the next few weeks, David threw himself back into his writing.

应用文范文(满分15分)
Dear David,
As graduation approaches, our class intends to present a meaningful oil painting to our school. I'm writing to share the plan with you and I'd like to get your opinions.
The painting features a vibrant school garden under a sunny sky, where students are happily playing — some doing sports on the lawn, others chatting cheerfully under a blooming tree. Their laughter and lively gestures add a dynamic touch to the scene. The thriving trees symbolize our growth, while a winding path represents the journey ahead. We chose rich yet harmonious colors, with dominant green for hope and warm yellow for joy, creating a sense of energy that mirrors our youthful spirit. Through this artwork, we hope to convey our gratitude and everlasting bond with the school.
What do you think of our idea I'm eager to hear your thoughts. Your advice would be invaluable to us.
Yours,
Li Hua
读后续写范文(满分25分)
Over the next few weeks, David threw himself back into his writing. He practiced every day, incorporating Mr. Carter's advice. He wrote essays, short stories, and even poetry, constantly pushing himself to improve. Slowly but surely, his confidence grew, and he began to enjoy writing again. He found that the more he wrote, the more ideas flowed through his mind. Each word he put on paper felt like a small victory, and he started to see his writing in a new light. He realized that the joy of writing wasn't just in winning competitions, but in the process of creation itself.
The next school year brought another writing competition. This time, David was determined to give it his best shot. He submitted an essay that he had worked on for weeks, feeling more prepared and hopeful than ever before. When the results were announced, David's heart raced with anticipation. To his delight, his name was called as one of the winners. He couldn't believe it — he had done it! All the hard work and perseverance had paid off. David knew that this victory was not just his own; it was evidence for the power of believing in oneself and never giving up.
