Dear Frank,
Thrilled to hear from you and learn that you are interested in my hometown, Jingzhou, which became a hit during the National Day and Mid-Autumn holiday and planning to pay a visit, I am writing to give you some helpful advice.
For transportation, buses, taxis or shared e-bikes work well in the city center, which will provide you with convenience while travelling. For local food, I recommend you to stop by Wuyi Road and Dasai Lane, where you can try various snacks like Aizi Pie, Guokui, Mifen, and so on. I suggest you have a 3-day trip. For the first day, you can visit Jingzhou Museum, ride a bike along the ancient city wall and watch the night light show. Day 2 is for Three Kingdoms culture—visit Guanyu Park and experience an immersive activity at Chu King’s Chariot and Horse Pits. On Day 3, it’s joyful to have fun at Fangte Oriental Mythology, with 5D rides and a fireworks show.
Jingzhou is a historical ancient city worth visiting. I hope my suggestions can be of any use to you and look forward to your arrival.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

I must give this speech to my history class next week. Sharing this with you now brings me confidence. So, thanks for listening, Mom and Dad! Anyway, the subject of this speech is Yuri Gagarin, the first person to go into space. Exploring space seems somewhat normal now. But when Gagarin had his first space mission, he was trying something never done before Gagarin grew up in Russia and learned to fly planes as a teenager. In 1960, he was chosen to be part of his country’s space program. Worldwide, this was the very beginning of humans exploring beyond Earth. Countries like the U.S.A., China, France, etc., were all trying to learn more about space. One year later, Gagarin took off into space. He went around the Earth in about an hour and a half. The whole world watched, feeling so hopeful. Sadly, in 1968, Gagarin took his final mission. In 50 years since then, he has been a symbol of hope. I admire his courage most and he’ll always inspire me to be a man like him!2025—2026学年度上学期2025级

As an experienced dog trainer, Du Linjia, 30, doesn’t only “teach” dogs — he also gives lessons to dog owners since they are the closest to their pets. With 10 years of work experience, he usually invites owners to train their dogs together with him, using a series of lessons to adjust the dogs’ behavior. In extreme cases, the dogs are taken to be trained alone.
How does a trainer change a dog’s behavior “One common aggressive behavior of a dog is growling (低吼) at its owner to protect its food,” Du said. “In such cases, we need to first analyze the dog’s motivation. It may misunderstand that the owner is there to take its food, which we aim to change.” By giving the dog even more delicious food while slowly getting closer one step at a time, the dog begins to believe I can be rewarded for letting humans come closer. Problem is solved.
Du believes that a dog trainer should have a strong sense of responsibility. No matter what behavior a dog has, the trainer must make judgments calmly and never give up on any dog.
Empathy(同理心) is important too, due to the fact that a dog’s worst behavior is usually coming from the misleading behavior of its owner. However, empathy does not only mean feeling sorry for the dog — one needs to think from the dog’s perspective. More practically speaking, Du said a dog trainer needs to be observant (善于观察的), and sensitive enough to notice small changes in the dog’s behavior so that they can intervene (介入) in time.
“The future for dog trainers is promising,” Du said, adding that many customers who would previously only focus on whether their dogs were healthy are now willing to learn how to improve their dogs’ behavior.
24. How does Du usually work
A. Walking dogs with their owners. B. Giving lessons to both dogs and owners.
C. Asking owners to get closer to their dogs. D. Training dogs in an extreme environment.
25. When they are growling at their owners, dogs probably think ________.
A. they will be rewarded B. the food is not delicious
C. their owners will give up on them D. their owners are taking their food away
26. What qualities should a good dog trainer have in Du’s view
A. Bravery and creativity. B. Intelligence and calmness.
C. Empathy and independence. D. Responsibility and sensitivity.
27. If a dog shows an unusual behaviour, the owner had better ________.
A. leave it alone B. change its daily diet
C. address it timely D. feel sorry for the change

Jason, a straight-A student from the University of Pennsylvania, uses the term “pseudo-working” to describe how many of us study. The pseudo-worker looks and feels like someone who is working hard — he or she spends a long time in the library and is not afraid to push on late into the night — but, because of a lack of focus and concentration, he or she doesn’t actually accomplish much.
This phenomenon can be seen in most colleges. For example, at Dartmouth there was a section of the main library that was open twenty-four hours a day and the students I used to see in there late at night crowded in groups, drinking coffee, were definitely pseudo-working.
By placing themselves in distracting (分心的) environments and insisting on working long hours, these students are damaging their brain’s ability to think clearly and efficiently to accomplish the task at hand. In the end they get half the results with twice the effort.
The bigger problem here is that most students don’t even realize that they’re pseudo-working. To them pseudo-working is work — it’s how they’ve always done it, and it’s how all of their friends do it. It never crosses their mind that there might be a better way. Straight-A students, on the other hand, know all about pseudo-working. They fear it, and for good reason it not only wastes time, but it’s also mentally tiring.
In fact, the most important skill in becoming a better student is the ability to get work done quickly and with a minimum of wasted effort. Some cognitive (认知的) science research concludes that about 50 minutes is the optimal learning period to maximize the material learned per time unit.
So how can students manage to study efficiently One key factor is captured in the following simple formula(公式): work accomplished = time spent×intensity of focus. Pseudo-working features a very low intensity of focus. Therefore, to accomplish something by pseudo-working, you need to spend a lot of time. The straight-A approach, on the other hand, maximizes intensity in order to minimize time.
28. Which of the following phenomenon is an example of pseudo-working
A. Tom is busy taking notes while attending a lecture.
B. Alice and Sara are sitting on the sofa reading their favorite books.
C. Mike is sitting in the study room in preparation for a final exam quietly.
D. Jack spends a long time in the library on his essay while listening to music.
29. What can be inferred from paragraph 3 and 4
A. Straight-A students believe some tasks are worth twice the effort.
B. Too much thinking may weaken the brain’s ability of the students.
C. Negative effects of pseudo-working are not fully realized by many students.
D. Students will get good grades once they realize that pseudo-working is ineffective.
30. What does the underlined word “optimal” mean in paragraph 5
A. Best. B. Longest. C. Least. D. Shortest.
31. Why does the author mention the formula in the text
A. To show the benefit of working hard.
B. To prove the necessity of accomplishing work.
C. To emphasize the importance of concentration.
D. To explain the reason for spending much time.
D
When stressed out, many of us turn to junk food like deep-fried food for comfort. But a new research suggests this: strategy may backfire. The study found that in animals, a high-fat diet upsets resident gut bacteria (肠道细菌), changes behavior and, through a complex pathway connecting the gut to the brain, influences brain chemicals in ways that fuel anxiety.
“Everyone knows that these are not healthy foods, but we tend to think about them strictly in terms of a little weight gain,” said lead author Christopher Lowry, a professor of integrative physiology at CU Boulder.“ If you understand that they also impact your brain in a way that can promote anxiety, that makes the risk even higher.”
Lowry’s team divided mice into two groups: Half got a standard diet of about 11% fat for nine weeks; the others got a high-fat diet of 45% fat, consisting mostly of fat from animal products. The typical American diet is about 36% fat, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
When compared to the control group, the group eating a high-fat diet, not surprisingly, gained weight. But the animals also showed significantly less diversity of gut bacteria. Generally speaking, a greater variety of bacteria is associated with better health, Lowry explained. The high-fat diet group also showed higher expression of three genes (基因) (tph2, htr1a, and slc6a4) involved in production and signaling of the brain chemical called serotonin (血清素)—particularly in a region of the central part of the brain known as the dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN), which is associated with stress and anxiety. While serotonin is often viewed as a “feel-good brain chemical”, Lowry notes that small certain groups of serotonin neurons (神经元) can, when activated, touch off anxiety-like responses in animals.
“To think that just a high-fat diet could change expression of these genes in the brain is extraordinary,” said Lowry. “The high-fat group essentially had a high anxiety state in their brain.” However, Lowry stresses that not all fats are bad, and that healthy fats like those found in fish, nuts and seeds can be good for the brain.
32. What is the new finding
A. Junk food leads to overweight. B. High-fat food brings bad moods.
C. Brain chemicals cause anxiety. D. Gut bacteria benefit brain health.
33. How did Christopher Lowry prove his guessing
A. By giving an example. B. By collecting data.
C. By making a comparison. D.By analyzing results.
34. How were the mice eating a high-fat diet compared to the control group
A. They became healthier. B. They lacked gut bacteria variety.
C. They got hungry faster. D. They lost much more weight.
35. What does Lowry agree with
A. Some fats are good. B. Fish fat is harmless.
C. Stress comes from fat. D. Every fat is harmful.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Courage is a highly admired virtue. When asked to describe courage, most people think of an individual running into a burning building, or maybe a hero saving the world. But there’s another form of bravery. It’s much more important because it comes up more often. 36 .
Moral (道德的) courage is the ability that allows us to face our fears and to conquer our darkest fears. It’s the ability to face the future without knowing what is certain. It’s the ability to stand tall and confront those who oppose us and those who prevent us from realizing who we are and what we are. 37 , even though there are risks that stand in your way. Sara Anderson once said, “It takes great courage to faithfully follow what we know to be true.”
38 . It was because of moral courage that Mahatma Gandhi was able to make India free from the British rule. He fought bravely against them without the use of any weapon by presenting great moral courage. In this way, he also became a great example for the people of the whole world. It is not that we remember Gandhi because of his body or beauty. 39 .
Moral courage is essential not only for a noble life, but a happy one. Without moral courage, we have no control over our lives. Our fears destroy our spirit and make us trapped in depression. Mark Twain said, “Courage is not the absence of fear but the resistance to fear and the mastery (控制) of fear.” If our fears cause us to lose confidence in the power of virtue, we will lose something very precious.
40 , but it is the best marker of true character and a virtue(美德) others can be proud of. We must try to develop the power of moral courage that will surely help in ending injustice and wrong and grant us a better world.
A.It’s a story of kindness
B.It’s called moral courage
C.People with moral courage rarely get medals
D.We can come along to lend others moral support
E.But most importantly, it’s the ability to stand up for what’s right
F.We remember him because of the great ideas and principles of his life
G.The potential of showing moral courage has the power of changing the world
