These small, sealed packages containing random collectible figures have created a global craze, particularly among teenagers and young adults. The Blind Box PhenomenonStandard blind boxes are priced at 59 — 69 ($8 —10) in China, while international markets see higher prices—up to $15 in the US and 12 in the UK. The excitement comes from not knowing which of the 12 possible figures you’ll get, with rare “hidden” versions appearing only once in every 144 boxes. This system has proven incredibly successful, with Pop Mart’s 2024 revenue reaching 13 billion ($1.8 billion).Global Expansion ChallengesAs Pop Mart expanded to over 30 countries, problems emerged. In London, a limited-edition Labubu release caused such crowding that police were called. Meanwhile, fake versions of popular figures flooded markets in Southeast Asia, selling for half the price but with poor quality.Membership BenefitsTo maintain customer loyalty, Pop Mart offers:* 1 membership point per 1 spent* Early access to new releases for Gold members ( 5,000+ annual spending)* Increased chances (from 1/ 144 to 1/72) of finding hidden figures when buying full sets21. What makes blind boxes particularly attractive for buyers A. Their low cost. B. Their large size.C. Their mysterious content. D. Their educational value.22. Which benefit do Gold members receive when purchasing full sets of blind boxes A. Free shipping on all orders.B. Double membership points per purchase.C. Guaranteed hidden figure in every full set.D. Increased chance of finding hidden figures (from 1/ 144 to 1/72).23. Based on the article, which of the best explains why this blind box model is so successful A. The high price of blind boxes ensures premium quality.B. Pop Mart only sells limited-edition figures in certain countries.C. The random nature and rarity of hidden figures create repeated purchases.D. The company avoids international expansion to prevent counterfeit products.BAdults understand what it feels like to be flooded with objects. Why do we often assume that more is more when it comes to kids and their belongings The good news is that I can help my own kids learn earlier than I did how to live more with less.I found the pre-holidays a good time to encourage young children to donate less-used things, and it worked. Because of our efforts, our daughter Georgia did decide to donate a large bag of toys to a little girl whose mother was unable to pay for her holiday due to illness. She chose to sell a few larger objects that were less often used when we promised to put the money into her school fund (基金) (our kindergarten daughter is serious about becoming a doctor). For weeks, I've been thinking of bigger, deeper questions: How do we make it a habit for them And how do we train ourselves to help them live with need, and use less Yesterday, I sat with my son, Shepherd, determined to test my own theory on this. I decided to play with him with only one toy for as long as it would keep his interest. I expected that one toy would keep his attention for about five minutes, ten minutes, max. I chose a red rubber ball—simple, universally available. We passed it, and he tried to put it in his mouth. He tried bouncing it, rolling it, sitting on it, and throwing it. It was totally, completely enough for him. Before I knew that an hour had passed and it was time to move on to lunch. We both became absorbed in the simplicity of playing together. He had my full attention and I had his. My little experiment to find joy in a single object worked for both of us.24. What do the words “more is more” in paragraph 1 probably mean A. The more, the better. B. Enough is enough.C. More money, more worries. D. Earn more and spend more.25. What made Georgia agree to sell some of her objects A. Saving up for her holiday B. Raising money for a poor girlC. Adding the money to her fund D. Giving the money to a sick mother26. Why did the author play the ball with Shepherd A. To try out an idea B. To show a parent’s loveC. To train his attention D. To help him start a hobby27. What can be a suitable title for the text A. Take It or Leave It B. A Lesson from KidsC. Live More with Less D. The Pleasure of GivingCThere are some sounds most of us acknowledge are annoying — the crunching of crisps, the noise of the air conditioning or a screaming baby. These noises, for many people, act as a mere inconvenience that can distract us from the task at hand. However, there are some among us who have a much more severe response to these noises. The question we ask today is: Has a noise ever made you feel so angry that you could explode with rage If the answer is yes, you may be suffering from misophonia. The word “misophonia” literally means “a hatred of sound” and is sometimes called Selective Sound Sensitivity Syndrome. There are some experts who doubt the existence of the condition. However, for those who claim to suffer from it, the experience can be traumatic. Certain sounds cause intense emotional or psychological responses that may seem over the top compared with a non-sufferer’s complaints. The sound of a loved one chewing their food could trigger a sufferer’s anxiety levels, or cause them to panic. It may even activate their fight-or-flight reaction, making them want to flee. In extreme cases, that feeling of panic may result in extreme anger and end up with sufferers going crazy. Also, these conditions can lead to social isolation and the sufferers may feel cut off, according to James Cartreine, a clinical psychiatrist.Sadly, there’s no known cure. However, tinnitus (耳鸣) retraining therapy, which helps people tolerate noises, may aid sufferers, while cognitive behavioural therapy and counselling could also help people manage the condition. Sufferers use coping strategies that include avoiding places with lots of noises, like restaurants, or moving away when they feel like hitting someone due to their breathing. So, the next time you see someone fly into a rage because of a sound that is driving them crazy, it may be due to a difficult condition they are trying to manage, and not just because they hate a certain sound.28. What can annoying sounds do to non-sufferers of misophonia A. They take their attention away from what they’re doing.B. They generate intense emotional responses among them.C. They make sufferers doubt the presence of the condition.D. They lead to some complaints and severe responses.29. What does the underlined word “traumatic” in paragraph 2 mean A. Physically painful. B. Emotionally disturbing.C. Spiritually comforting. D. Mentally satisfying30. What can we learn about misophonia sufferers from paragraphs 3 and 4 A. They can’t be able to manage misophonia.B. They won’t be cured through medical treatments.C. They may be angered by the feeling of being cut off.D. They may panic over the sound caused by a loved one.31. Where is the text most probably taken from A. A news report. B. A health magazine.C. A medical textbook. D. A psychologist’s notebook.DScientists visiting tiny Henderson Island in the South Pacific recently made an alarming discovery. Although it is one of the most remote places on the earth and previously untouched by humans, the island was covered in plastic waste. They calculated there were 38 million pieces of plastic, weighing almost 18 tons, with thousands of new pieces washing up each day. “No country has a free pass—we found plastic from everywhere,” said one scientist. “We all have a responsibility, and we have to sit up and pay attention. This is not an issue to ignore. We need to do something now to protect the sea.”Plastic waste in the sea has long been known about, but only now are we discovering the true extent of the problem. Plastic takes hundreds of years to decompose, so all the plastic ever produced still exists somewhere. Around 95% of plastics made are not recycled, and large amounts enter the sea. Currents collect this waste in large circular systems called “gyres”. One of the largest is in the Pacific Ocean, an area now known as the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch”.The problem gets worse as plastic breaks down into very small pieces, or “micro plastic”. This is eaten by fish and leads to massive species loss. Humans also eat these fish, and micro plastic has even been found in tap water around the world. The problem has spread too far to ignore. The plastic on Henderson Island accounts for just 2 seconds’ worth of global annual plastic production. That production will more than triple by 2050. Then there will be the same weight of plastic in the sea as fish. However, there are some young minds working to clean up and protect the sea for future generations. While diving in Greece, young Boyan Slat noticed there was more plastic waste than fish. He decided right then to dedicate his life to solving this problem. Previously the problem was considered too big to solve; collecting the plastic with boats and nets would be expensive, would harm sea life, and would take thousands of years! But, Boyan thought, why move through the sea when the sea can move through you To work with the currents and gyres would help collect the waste. So he started The Ocean Cleanup project, which places very long floating barriers in the Pacific. Currents then concentrate the waste naturally so it can be collected and recycled. He hopes to reduce the patch by 50% in just five years.“Many problems today are side effects of things people didn’t think about in the past”, he says. Sea plastic is a symbol of the negative effects of our lifestyle and technology. Our aim should be to create a new lifestyle for this century. Protecting the sea from plastic is a good place to start.32. What alarming discovery did the scientists make A. They discovered a tiny island in the South Pacific Ocean.B. They discovered there was plastic everywhere on Henderson Island.C. They discovered that there was no human beings on Henderson Island.D. They discovered Henderson Island was the most remote place in the world.33. What can we learn from the passage A. Micro plastic is merely harmful to the fish in the sea.B. Not all the countries have to face the problem of plastic trash.C. Nowadays there is the same weight of plastic in the sea as fish.D. Most plastics made are not recycled, and large amounts enter the sea.34. What is the main idea of Paragraph 4 A. How the Ocean Cleanup project works.B. The problem of plastic cleanup is too big to tackle.C. Let the sea itself decompose the plastic waste naturally.D. Collecting plastic with boats and nets would be a good way.35. Which of the following words best describe Boyan Slat A. Considerate and straightforward. B. Intelligent and responsible.C. Knowledgeable and sensitive. D. Devoted and courageous.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Do you like cilantro (香菜) Cilantro is a common food that people tend to either adore or abuse. 36__ But the reasons behind what you like and don’t like are not always so straightforward.__37 Your sense of smell allows you to distinguish between something like strawberry and cherry. Scientists looked at olfactory receptors(嗅觉受体)and discovered that individuals with a certain gene, OR6A2, are more sensitive to smelling cilantro. That, in turn, affects how people sense its flavor. __38___ When you’re open to these foods, you learn to like what you eat. Even people who hate cilantro may be able to learn to at least tolerate it, if not like it.Culture plays a big role in what you like, too. Food preferences vary across cultures. When it comes to food preferences in different parts of the world, it has a lot to do with what’s available and considered a food staple (主食). 39 But there will always be exceptions ---- a Greek person who can’t stand olives or a Dutch person who hates cheese. While preferences can be formed after a few attempts, negative experiences with foods, especially when you’re young, can have a lasting effect. 40 Jasmine Robinson, 29, from Athens, shared her story about olives. When she was young, another child, who wouldn’t let her have a turn on a swing, made fun of her while eating olives from a jar and being mean. She later tried olives as an adult but failed.A. We like sweetness and hate bitterness.B. Love it or hate it is pretty clear.C. But your biology is not everything.D. It is related to familiarity and not biology.E. Her art teacher told her about an upcoming local youth arts show — and she'd already started preparing for it. However, her parents, both practicing doctors, urged her hard to go into medicine, arguing it would give her a stable and secure future. One evening at dinner, her father said firmly, "It's time you start preparing for the medical school entrance exams. You're smart and hard-working — you'll surely thrive in this field.” Sarah set down her fork, disappointment clouding her eyes. “But I don’t want to be a doctor,” she insisted. “Painting is what I’m truly passionate about.” Her mother sighed softly, “Art is a wonderful hobby, but it doesn't pay the bills. You need to be practical about your future." Growing frustrated, Sarah stood up, stormed to her bedroom and locked the door. Staring at her half-finished painting, tears welled up in her eyes — trapped between her love for art and her parents' expectations. That night, Sarah lay awake, tossing and turning. She hated the thought of letting down her supportive parents, yet she couldn’t bear the idea of giving up her dream. The next day at school, her best friend Lily noticed her gloom and asked what was wrong. After Sarah poured out her troubles, Lily advised, “Follow your heart — but prove to your parents how serious you are about painting.”Taking Lily's advice, Sarah spent the weekend crafting a series of paintings that laid bare her emotions. She also looked up artists who'd built successful careers out of their art. On Monday evening, she asked her parents into her room, showed them her portfolio (作品集) and notes, and said, “I know you're worried, but I believe I can make it as an artist — selling online, teaching,or doing custom work. Please give me a chance.” Her parents listened quietly, their faces softening as they looked over her work.注意:1.续写词数应为150左右。请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。After Sarah finished speaking, there was a long silence in the room. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________A week later, Sarah received a surprising call from her art teacher. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________高二年级10月月考英语答案听力:1-20 ACBCA CACBA BCACB ABABC阅读:21-23 CDC 24-27 ACAC 28-31 ABDB 32-35 BDAB 36-40 BECDG完形填空:BDCAA CDBCD CABAD语法填空:a 57. what 58. and 59. to have 60. reflectionclearly 62. to 63. was discovered 64. him 65. proving应用文Dear Peter,Thrilled to learn of your upcoming trip to China! Her father picked up one of her paintings, staring at the vivid colors and careful brushstrokes. “These are really thoughtful,” he said softly. Her mother nodded, reaching out to wipe the remaining tears from Sarah’s cheek. “We were worried you hadn’t thought about the future,” she admitted. “But seeing how hard you’ve worked, we’re willing to support you.” Sarah hugged them tightly, tears of joy replacing her earlier sorrow. They agreed to let her take art classes while keeping up with her studies.A week later, Sarah received a surprising call from her art teacher. Her art teacher encouraged her to take part in the local youth arts show and told her the details. With her parents ’ help, she selected three best works from her portfolio. On the opening day, her paintings caught the eye of a gallery owner, who offered to display her work. Standing beside her parents, watching people admire her art, Sarah knew she had made the right choice. Her parents smiled proudly, realizing that passion, paired with effort, could indeed build a bright future.听力原文:1. M: The gym was great on the whole. The equipment was all new. I have a degree in art and design. I did courses in painting and drawing at university. But as you’d expect I also did one in computer graphics. I’ve worked on many great games. Purple Moon was my first big challenge and I had a key role in Defending Planet X. But the one I got the most out of was Star City because I was working on creating a multiplayer experience. The most demanding aspect of a game, however, is hitting the right level of difficulty. You want the game to be hard enough to reward people who are skillful but not so hard that people become frustrated and stop playing. What does it take to be a game designer You need creativity to have a vision to see what will make a game fun. You need communication to express that vision to others and influence them. And above all, you need devotion to make your vision of reality to work your way through the disappointments and failures. 展开更多...... 收起↑ 资源预览 当前文档不提供在线查看服务,请下载使用!
