Great minds like Einstein, Marie Curie, Confucius, and Hua Luogeng have left a deep mark on the world. Their ideas and actions still inspire us today, ____1____ students.
First, great minds teach us the power of curiosity. Einstein once said, “I have no special talent. I am only curious.” For students, this means asking questions ____2____ they seem “silly”.
When we’re curious about a math problem or a science experiment, we don’t just “learn” it — we____3____ it. This curiosity helps us find new interests and keep learning even when things are hard.
Second, they show us the importance of perseverance (坚持不懈). Marie Curie worked in a dirty, ____4_____lab for years to find radium. She didn’t give up even when her health got worse. This kind of perseverance isn’t just for scientists — it’s also key for students when facing difficulties.

Part 3 Reading and Writing(34points)
A.Choose the best answer.(5%)
Around the world more and more people are taking part in dangerous sports and activities. Of course, there have always been people who have looked for adventure (冒险)—those who have climbed the highest mountains, traveled into unknown parts of the world or sailed in small boats across the greatest oceans. Now, however, there are people who try to find an immediate thrill (毛骨悚然) from a risky activity which may only last a few minutes or even seconds.
I would consider bungee jumping to be a good example of such an activity. You jump from a high place (perhaps a bridge or a hot-air balloon) 200 meters above the ground with an elastic (有弹性的) rope to your ankles (脚踝). You fall at up to 150 kilometers an hour until the rope stops you from hitting the ground. Other activities which most people would say are as risky as bungee jumping include jumping from tall buildings and diving into the sea from the top of high cliffs (峭壁).
Why do people take part in such activities as these Some psychologists (心理学家) suggest that it is because life in modern societies has become safe and boring. Life, according to many people, offers little excitement. They live and work safely and comfortably. The answer for some of these people is to try to find danger in activities such as bungee jumping.

C.there is not much excitement in their lives D.they are curious about such sports
5.It seemed that the writer of the text is ________.
A.afraid of dangerous sport B.against (反对) dangerous sports
C.for (支持) dangerous sports D.neither for nor against dangerous sports
B.Choose the words or expressions and complete the passage.(6%)
Being curious about the world around you can boost your confidence.
As a new school year begins, opening your mind to new people and experiences will help you make friends and 1 new interests. Don’t worry about it—have a go!
Having an open mind and being curious means trying to understand other people’s thoughts and ideas, even if you don’t always 2 them. It also means trying new experiences and exploring different ways of doing things. You can have an open mind about anything. The new school term means there are plenty of opportunities to open your mind, find a new activity to try, make new friends and in the process, learn more about yourself.
There are lots of 3 to being open-minded. Kendra Cherry is an author and expert in feelings, and she says it helps you learn new things about the world and the people around you. This makes you feel more confident and 4 about facing challenges. Having an interest in other people gives you more empathy, which means you understand and share their feelings, says Cherry. Being open to fresh ideas can also create exciting new ones of your own.
Start by asking questions, says Cherry. So if you’re unsure about joining a new club, ask yourself what’s stopping you. Imagine how it feels to learn a new skill, meet new people and make friends. Don’t jump to a sudden 5 but give yourself time to think about it first. If someone says something you disagree with, then instead of deciding they are 6 or arguing back, take a moment to consider why they have that opinion.
Finally, open your mind to new ideas. Even if you think you’re an expert on a subject, there is always more you can learn.

Curiosity: The Key to Great Discoveries
Throughout history, curiosity has been the driving force behind some of the most important discoveries. Take Galileo, for example. As a young man, he was curious about the stars and planets. While others believed the Earth was the center of the universe, Galileo wondered if that was true. He built a telescope to observe the sky and found that the Earth orbits the sun—a discovery that changed science forever.
Another example is Marie Curie, who was curious about unknown elements. She spent years studying radioactive materials, even when many people thought it was a waste of time. Her curiosity led to the discovery of radium, which has helped save millions of lives through cancer treatment.
Curiosity isn’t just for famous scientists. It’s part of everyday life. A teacher in a small village noticed that her students were curious about plants. Instead of just telling them facts, she encouraged them to grow their own. The students began asking questions: Why do some plants need more water How do they make food Through exploring, they learned more than any textbook could teach.
In fact, research shows that curious people are more successful in life. They are better at solving problems and adapting to new situations. This is because curiosity makes the brain more active and ready to learn. When we’re curious, we pay more attention and remember information better.
So, the next time you wonder “why” or “how”, don’t ignore it. Follow your curiosity—it might just lead you to something amazing.
1.What did Galileo discover by observing the sky with a telescope
2.How did Marie Curie’s curiosity help save lives
3.What did the village teacher do to encourage her students’ curiosity
4.Why are curious people more successful in life according to research
5.What does the author advise us to do when we feel curious

Every time you’re online, you are attacked by pictures, articles, links and videos trying to tell their stories. Unluckily, not all of them are true. These days it’s so easy to share information. These stories spread quickly, and the result is — fake (假的) news.
There is a variety of fake news: from crazy stories which people easily recognize to more types of inaccurate information. Experts have been examining the fake news and offered us these tips. Don’t get fooled!
____1_____
Look at the website where the story comes from. Does it look real Is the text well written Are there a variety of other stories or is it just one story Fake news websites often use addresses that sound like real newspapers, but don’t have many real stories about other topics.
____2_____
Many fake news stories use images that are photoshopped (图像处理) or taken from an unrelated site. Sometimes, if you just look closely at an image you can see if it has been changed.
____3_____
If you do find it on many other sites that you know and trust, then it probably isn’t fake.
____4_____
There are other techniques(技术) that fake news uses. Also, think about how the story makes you feel. If the news story makes you angry, it’s probably designed to make you angry.
If you know these things about online news, and can apply them in your everyday life, then you have the control over what to read, what to believe and most importantly what to share. If you find a news story that you know is fake, the most important advice is: don’t share it!
In this way, the world will be safer.

In Wuhan, people 1 (carry) flowers have been lining up at the general building of the 719 Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Group to pay their respects to Huang Xuhua.
Born in 1926, in Shanwei, Guangdong Province, Huang grew up in the shadow (影子) of war. When he was a little boy, he was curious about science. He said that curiosity is his best teacher. In 1945, he entered Shanghai JiaoTong University to study shipbuilding, hoping to use his knowledge to protect the country. After graduating in 1949, Huang joined the nation’s shipbuilding industry.
The top-secret nature of the project 2 (mean) Huang could not visit his mother for three decades. When he finally visited her in the late 1980s, she was in 3 90s. And his father passed away. “I believe loyalty (忠诚) to the country is the greatest form of filial piety (孝心) 4 my parents,” Huang said in a TV program.
During his life, Huang earned awards for his hard work, including the National Moral Model, Medal of the Republic, and State Pre-eminent Science and Technology Award. He became an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1994. 5 some media called him the “father of China’s nuclear submarines (核潜艇)”, Huang rejected this title, saying, “China’s nuclear submarines were the result of collective (共同的) effort. I was doing my duty.”
“We are sorry for his passing, and it is a great loss. We must tell our children about Huang’s story, helping them appreciate history and inspiring them to fight for the nation,” said a Wuhan resident 6 came to mourn(悼念)Huang with his son and grandson.

Researchers said they had found out that there was once an ancient fresh water lake on Mars that might have been able to 1 life.
A team of researchers from the US Curiosity Rover Mission, analyzed (分析) some mudstone and fine-grained sediment (细粒沉积物) which can tell us that there was at least one lake around 3.6 billion years ago.
The team said their analysis showed that the lake was calm and likely had fresh water, including key biological 2 , such as carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and sulphur. Theoretically(从理论上说), such a lake would provide perfect conditions for simple living things.
The findings were 3 in the US Journal Science and presented at the American Geophysical Union’s fall meeting in San Francisco. “It is important to note that we have not found 4 of ancient life on Mars. What we have found is that there once existed a lake on its surface which might make it 5 for some simple living things to live billions of years ago,” Professor Sanjeev Gupta said. Gupta described the new research as “a huge positive step” for the exploration of Mars.
In previous(先前的) studies, scientists found evidence(证据)of water on Mars’ surface in other rocks. However, the new research provides the strongest evidence yet that Mars could have been 6 enough for life to continue.
