When someone asks you the way to a place, how will you give directions to him or her Well, the most important thing is communicating effectively (有效地). If you don’t know how to communicate with the person who is asking the way, remember these ideas.
Speak slowly and clearly. When you give directions, don’t rush. Speak out every word clearly. Don’t speak too quickly, or the person may get confused and miss important information.
Avoid using words, phrases or names that only the locals will know. You should use the names of roads as they’re marked on street signs and road maps. Don’t use a famous local person’s house as a landmark (地标). Outlanders don’t know the famous person.
Don’t think the person knows anything about the area. You know the place very well, but the person may know nothing of local landmarks, main roads, or even the names of roads. You should provide all of the information for the person. Remember to give the person more details (细节).
Ask the person if they have any questions. After giving directions, you can ask the person, “Do you have any questions about the route ” If the person doesn’t understand your directions, he or she will ask you to repeat the directions.
