Pang Zhongwang grew up in a small village. When he was a primary school child, having music lessons at school was already a special thing. There was only one music teacher in the whole school, and they had one lesson every week. The teacher always came with an erhu, and as soon as the clear sound of the erhu started, the class began.
They didn’t have guitars or pianos, only music textbooks and a few willow-branch whistles (柳树枝哨子). But he still remembers this simple classroom clearly. The music teacher often praised (表扬) him for singing well and asked him to be the first to stand up and sing. To a primary school student, this praise from the teacher meant more than any prize.
Because of the teacher’s encouragement, he sang in front of his classmates again and again. Slowly, he was no longer afraid of being watched. When singing, he would hold his back straight and open his voice. Later, when he went to middle school, he dared to answer questions in class bravely. Looking back now, part of his confidence was slowly developed in that simple rural classroom in the countryside.
When he was in college, his grandmother suddenly asked him, “Why haven’t I heard you sing since high school ” He smiled and didn’t answer — he had already known that he was tone-deaf (五音不全). Although his clear singing voice was gone, the seed (种子) of confidence given by the teacher in his early years had already grown lush in his heart.
When Teachers’ Day comes, he wants to say thanks to his music teacher and all teachers who stick to the teaching platforms (讲台) in the villages: Thank you for taking away children’s shyness with your kind and simple hearts in ordinary classrooms, and leaving courage and confidence for them.
21. What made the primary school life special to Pang Zhongwang according to the passage
A. Having a piano in the classroom. B. Having music classes at school.
C. Having a microphone for singing. D. Having many music teachers.

C. Gave him a willow twig whistle. D. Gave him a music certificate.
23. The underlined word “lush” in Paragraph 4 probably means ________.
A. weak and small B. dry and dead C. thick and green D. thin and yellow
24. Why didn’t Pang Zhongwang sing after senior high school
A. He lost his voice. B. He became too busy with study.
C. He found out he was tone-deaf. D. His grandma didn’t like his singing.
25. What can we learn from the passage

Pingshu (评书), a traditional Chinese storytelling art, has a history dating back to the Qing Dynasty (清朝). Performers usually tell stories in teahouses or small theaters, attracting listeners with their voices and gestures.
To learn Pingshu well, artists need years of training. Most learn by studying under experienced performers. As one famous artist, Yuan Kuocheng, said, Pingshu is “both mental and physical work.” Performers must memorize long stories and add their own words to make the old stories more attractive. They also need to understand the deeper meanings of the stories and share their thoughts with the listeners.
During performances, artists stand behind a table. They use tools like a folding fan and a wooden block called Xingmu (醒木). The fan helps act out scenes, such as “drawing a sword (剑).” The Xingmu is knocked on the table to mark the start of the story or to highlight exciting moments.
Modern technology has brought both challenges and chances to Pingshu. While young people today prefer online entertainment, technology allows artists to record their performances. These recordings can be shared widely, helping more people discover Pingshu. Digital (数字的) methods also protect this art for future people.
More often than not, those who listen to Pingshu stories belong to older generations (代、辈). While most young people spend hours online, a small number still find value in Pingshu, drawn by its cultural richness and storytelling traditions.
In summary, Pingshu is not just entertainment—it carries Chinese culture and wisdom. Through stories, performers connect the past with the present, offering listeners both fun and life lessons.
26. What can we infer (推测) from the second paragraph
A. Learning Pingshu requires both time and guidance from experts.
B. Memorizing stories is less important than physical gestures.
C. Pingshu artists can master the skill within a few months.
D. Performers seldom share their personal thoughts during shows.
27. What tool is NOT needed during a Pingshu performance
A. A folding fan to act out scenes. B. A wooden block to mark key moments.
C. A table to stand behind while performing. D. A microphone to make their voices louder.
28. What is modern technology’s influence on Pingshu
A. It allows artists to perform without live listeners.
B. It reduces the need for performers to memorize stories.
C. It spreads Pingshu to more people and protects its future.
D. It forces performers to use digital tools during shows.
29. Which group will probably attend Pingshu performances
A. Teenagers who prefer short online videos. B. Adults who enjoy traditional Chinese culture.
C. Foreign tourists visiting modern theaters. D. Children learning to play musical instruments.
30. What is the main purpose of the article
A. To explain the tools and methods used in Pingshu performances.
B. To argue that modern technology is harmful to traditional arts.
C. To compare the techniques of Pingshu with other storytelling forms.
D. To introduce Pingshu’s history, practice and cultural importance.

But you can start thinking about and planning for your future job. The following article helps middle school students plan for jobs.
Explore your interests
Many middle school students don’t yet know what they want to do. But in fact, students may change their minds several times, perhaps even after they enter society. And some of tomorrow’s jobs might not exist (存在) today. In middle school, it isn’t necessary to focus on just one job. 3. Learn about yourself
Understanding what you enjoy and what you’re good at is the most important step in exploring jobs. If you don’t know what you want to do, you should ask yourself what you like to learn about. If you really like science, what do you enjoy about it—the lab work or the research It’s important to think about what you like to do, because work will finally be a big part of your life.
Discover possible jobs
Once you’ve thought about the subjects and activities you like best, the next step is to look for jobs that put those interests to use. If you love sports, for example, you might consider a job as a P. E. teacher or a soccer coach. 4. If you like English, it might be a good choice to be an English teacher or a tour guide.
Do your research
After you have discovered some possible jobs, the next step is to learn more about them. Talking directly to workers on the phone or by email can help you get information about these jobs.
