Now, I know school life isn’t just about studying. It’s about making friends and growing together. I hope we 6 good friends forever. 7 time goes by, I’ll cherish our memories. A True Friend in Need
When I started junior high school, I was shy and struggled to make friends. I spent most of my free time reading books or sitting alone in the classroom. That changed when I met Lin Tao, a boy with a bright smile and curly black hair. He was friendly and always ready to help others, which made him popular among our classmates.
One day, our math teacher announced a group project. We needed to work in pairs to solve a set of difficult problems and give a presentation. I was worried because I was not good at math, and no one volunteered to be my partner. Just as I felt hopeless, Lin Tao walked up to me and said, “Let’s work together. I’m sure we can do a great job!” His words gave me courage.
During the next two weeks, we met every afternoon after school. Lin Tao was patient and explained math concepts to me step by step. He never got tired even when I asked the same question several times. When I felt frustrated, he encouraged me, “Mistakes are part of learning. We’ll keep trying until we get it right.” We also shared our hobbies, and he loved playing ping-pong, and I enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Sometimes we played ping-pong for a while to relax after studying hard.

Trust yourself!” We presented our project clearly, and the teacher praised us for our hard work. I felt proud not only because we got a good grade, but also because I had made a true friend.

My Favorite School Club
School life is not just about classes and homework. After-school clubs make it more colorful and meaningful. Among all the clubs in our school, the Environmental Club is my favorite. I joined it last semester, and it has taught me a lot about protecting the planet and working with others.
The club has about 30 members, and we meet every Wednesday afternoon. Our teacher, Ms. Wang, guides us to do different activities. Once, we learned how to sort rubbish. Ms. Wang showed us pictures of different types of waste, recyclable waste like paper and plastic bottles, food waste like fruit peels, and hazardous waste like batteries. We practiced sorting rubbish in the classroom first, then went to the school playground to help clean up and sort the trash bins. It was surprising to see how much recyclable waste was being thrown away before.
Another interesting activity was planting trees. Last month, we went to a park near our school. We brought small saplings, shovels and water buckets. Ms. Wang taught us how to dig holes, put the saplings in, and cover the roots with soil. Everyone worked hard. Some dug holes, some carried water, and others helped straighten the saplings. I got dirt on my hands, but I felt happy. We also made signs that said “Protect Trees, Protect Our Home” and hung them on the trees.
The club also invites guests to give talks. Last week, a environmentalist came to share stories about how plastic pollution harms sea animals. He showed us photos of turtles trapped in plastic bags and birds with plastic in their stomachs. We were all shocked and decided to use fewer plastic products. Now, I always bring a cloth bag when I go shopping and refuse single-use plastic straws.
Joining the Environmental Club has not only made me more aware of environmental problems but also helped me make new friends. We work together, encourage each other, and try our best to make a difference. I believe that small actions can add up to big changes. I’m looking forward to more interesting activities in the club and doing more for our planet.

Seasons Around the World
There are four seasons in a year—spring, summer, autumn and winter. Each season has its own features, but did you know that seasons are different in different parts of the world The Earth’s tilt as it moves around the Sun causes this difference.
In China, which is in the northern hemisphere, spring starts in March. The weather gets warmer, snow melts, and plants start to grow. Flowers bloom, and birds come back from the south. People like to go on picnics or fly kites in spring. Summer, from June to August, is hot and sunny. Many people go to the beach to swim or eat ice cream to cool down. Autumn, from September to November, is cool and dry. Leaves turn red, yellow and brown, and farmers are busy harvesting crops. Winter, from December to February, is cold. Some places get snow, and children love to play in the snow.
But in Australia, which is in the southern hemisphere, the seasons are the opposite. When it’s summer in China, it’s winter in Australia. Australians celebrate Christmas in summer—they often have barbecues on the beach or go swimming. Their winter is from June to August, but it’s not as cold as in northern China. Most places don’t get snow, except for some mountain areas where people can go skiing.
Spring in Australia starts in September. The weather becomes mild, and flowers like kangaroo paws bloom. Autumn, from March to May, is a beautiful season. The leaves of gum trees turn golden, and the weather is perfect for outdoor activities like hiking. Many Australians like to go on family outings during this time.

Protect Our Earth, Our Only Home
The Earth is an amazing planet. It is our home, and it provides us with everything we need—food, water, air and energy. But today, the Earth is facing many problems, and it needs our help to stay healthy.
One of the biggest problems is plastic pollution. Every day, people use millions of plastic bags, bottles and straws. Most of these plastics are not recycled and end up in the sea or on land. Sea animals like turtles and whales often mistake plastic bags for food and eat them, which makes them ill or even die. Plastic also takes hundreds of years to break down, so it pollutes the environment for a long time.
Another problem is deforestation. Many trees are cut down every year to make paper, build houses or clear land for farms. Trees are important because they produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide, which helps to keep the air clean. When there are fewer trees, the air becomes more polluted, and many animals lose their homes.
We can all do something to protect the Earth. First, we can use fewer plastic products. For example, we can bring our own cloth bags when shopping, use metal or glass bottles instead of plastic ones, and say no to single-use straws. Second, we can save energy. We can turn off the lights and computers when we leave the room, and walk or ride bikes to school instead of taking cars. Third, we can plant more trees. Trees help to improve the environment and provide homes for animals.
Schools can also play a role. Many schools organize “Environmental Days” where students learn about pollution and take part in clean-up activities. Our school recently held a tree-planting event. All the students and teachers planted saplings in the school garden. It was a great experience, and we felt proud to do something for the Earth.
The Earth is our only home. We must take care of it. If we work together, small changes can make a big difference. Let’s do our best to protect the Earth so that future generations can also enjoy its beauty.
38.What happens to sea animals when they eat plastic
A. They get ill or die.
B. They become healthier.
C. They grow faster.
D. They move to other seas.
39.Why are trees important for the Earth
A. They produce plastic products.
B. They break down quickly.
C. They produce oxygen and clean the air.
D. They provide plastic bags for people.
40.What did the writer’s school do to protect the Earth
A. It organized a clean-up activity in the park.
B. It held a tree-planting event.
C. It stopped using plastic products.
D. It taught students to recycle paper.

Green Week at Our School
Last month, our school held a “Green Week” to raise students’ awareness of environmental protection. The event was a great success, and everyone in the school took an active part in it.
The Green Week started with a special assembly. Our headmaster gave a speech about the importance of protecting the Earth. 41 He also encouraged us to do small things in our daily lives to help the environment, such as saving water and sorting rubbish. After the assembly, each class received a “Green Handbook” with tips on how to live a low-carbon life.
During the week, there were many interesting activities. 42 Students brought old books, toys and clothes to school, and we sold them at a low price. The money we raised was donated to a charity that plants trees in desert areas. We also had a “No Plastic Day” on Wednesday. 43 Many students brought their own water bottles and cloth bags, and we refused to use any single-use plastic products that day.
On Thursday, we invited a scientist to give a talk about climate change. 44 He told us that the Earth’s temperature is rising because of pollution, and this causes problems like droughts and floods. He also shared simple ways to reduce our carbon footprint, such as walking to school and turning off the air conditioner when it’s not necessary.
The Green Week ended with a clean-up activity in the community. 45 We picked up rubbish in the park near our school, sorted it into different bins, and planted some small trees. Everyone worked hard, and the park looked much cleaner and greener after our efforts.
The Green Week taught us that protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility. We all realized that small actions can make a big difference. We decided to continue these good habits and do our best to protect our Earth.
